I cry Everytime I watch this. And I watch it a million times. It is amazing. The spirit of sport. This is the greatest baseball team to have ever existed in my humble opinion.
If you really love baseball and everything the game stands for this is the doc for you 10/10
Please Netflix release this on DVD/Blu ray so we never ever lose it.
This is my favourite film on Netflix
Same
I’ve watched this at least once a year since it came out. I bought a Portland Mavericks Hat and wear it all the time
This is the best documentary I've seen so far this year.
MANCHESTER UNITED that’s crazy cuz who asked
Seeing this M guys commenting for the 4th time on every baseball video I watched. I think he can't take the fact that soccer can't be a big sport in USA as baseball or any other sport.
Even if you don't like baseball, the stories of all the people involved, are what makes this documentary universal. The second chance to follow a dream, that powerful.
Jim "Swannie" Swanson, the Mavericks left-handed catcher and co-owner of Swannie's in Seatle, the greatest sports bar/comedy club in the known world, has passed away (2/27/22). Rest in Peace Jimmy, we salute you!
Best baseball documentary I have ever seen in my life
Just watched this for the 5th time... an amazing story about a “raggamuffin” group that just wanted to prove they belong. Everyone from their owner to their batboy wanted to prove they were good enough, and they were. If you are a baseball fan it will take you back to a time of fun and innocence.
AWESOME STORY!!! These guys were MAJOR LEAGUE before the movie! This is a must watch, wether a baseball fan or NOT.
When a batboy gets thrown out of a game you know you’re at the right type of baseball game.
I currently play in an Independent league like this - the Pacific Coast Baseball League... has-beens and never-weres, like Jose Canseco. People going up and coming down. We just like to play ball and have fun doing it. I'm 38 and I'm the old man on my team but I wouldn't trade the dugout experiences for anything.
I admire people who chase their dreams....98% of us just settle
You on the Stompers?
This squad reminds me of my college baseball team: the D3 walk-on bulldogs the other teams didnt want. It was so entertaining to be on the team. There were lots of guys who loved each other and would do just about anything for the W.
Beautiful film. I'm from the U.K. and have absolutely no interest in baseball at all -- it doesn't matter -- this film is about more than baseball or even sport, it's about showing the people that think they know everything that don't know anything at at. God bless (I'm an atheist too!) Bing Russell and the Portland Mavericks.
I have been a baseball fanatic since the 1980s. With no baseball right now I have been struggling, I mean no baseball in June just feels like the world is all wrong. This documentary put a smile on my face and had me feeling good for days after watching it. It is fantastic.
My Dad had season tickets one year and got them for 10$ for the entire season. He said it was so much fun he says the left handed center fielder was his hero😮
Single best thing I have ever watched. Bing was everyone's coach and everyone's dad. The best fundamentals ever put out by anyone
This documentary was fun, enlightening, touching, and overall super entertaining! one of my favs I've seen in a long while.
I think I watch this once a year.
I played baseball for the Boise Buckskins in 1978. There were quite a few connections and similarities between the Buckskins and Mavericks including the General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Field Manager & a couple of players. Battered Bastards of Baseball is awesome, especially for me. Thank You, Carren Woods, wonderful job! :-)
Great baseball movie
Lmfao the Asian guy was my middle school P.E. teacher.
My sons too
Well you never know they all look the same
@MANCHESTER UNITED Says the fan from the team that has not win a Premier for the last 7 years, shut the f up.
@@harrisonsmith5983 Shame on you, Harrison.
Also do they really all have bright white moustaches?
Still baffled that they didn't make a movie about the team. Great potential with the right people involved! Kurt could even play his father.
Never heard of this and didn't know Bing was Kurts Daddy , both are some of my favorite actors.
So good. Watched it last night. Uplifting.
Excellent film! Loved it!
ɷ I Havee Watchedddd Thissss Movie Leakedd Versionnn Hereee : - t.co/RlKbv1hghK
I am not even a baseball fan, and I watched it all, with my husband. Great, true story.
If you love baseball, you have to watch this movie
Just watched it with my son. I highly recommend it. Very enjoyable.
I don’t watch baseball. I’m not even a sports nut. But I live documentaries, and this documentary is great baseball and a beautiful love letter from a son, Kurt Russell to his father.
Watch it.it’s great. It’s uplifting. It’s American.
Great story I hadn't heard...I was in kindergarten when the team started. I love heartwarming baseball stories like this, even if they drive home that such a great game is controlled by SUCH corporate sleaze! I live 70 miles from a AAA PCL yard and try to get there 4-5 times a year and always enjoy myself. It does suck when they wrap up a good year though because you KNOW right away they're gonna be terrible for the next several as all the great talent gets called up! I would love to be closer to an independent club just for a different experience!
Jo Garza was the player that was sweeping with a broom over the Mavericks dugout. He did that when the team was sweeping a series. The broom somehow was lit. He`d get thrown out of the game. Good baseball! Thank You, Bing!
one of the best baseball movies ever. Just too much fun...
"here comes Reggie!!!"
Beautiful story. boy did i learned about baseball (and Kurt Russel) in this doc. great soundtrack too.
great story. its disheartening to know corporations will sit back and watch you put in all the leg work hoping you fail. and the minute you start succeeding they have to bring a stop to it, by coming in and forcing you out. call it what you want, it is still arrogance and beating up on the little guy. and usually the bigger pockets can manipulate the rules and laws until they get the results they want, and all your work and interest is completely snuffed out.
Saw it last night at the Portland showing at the Film Center...you need to see this!
Great documentary
Fantastic documentary. Loved every minute of it…
As a fan of Mike Veeck and what his talent has brought to the St Paul Saints, this movie proved to be extremely enlightening. There IS nothing new under the sun. That ball club was amazing, almost too good to be true. It's like "Slapshot" only baseball instead of hockey, and fact over fiction.
This was a great documentary. I loved it.
Great, funny, fantastic, bittersweet...Bing Russell was a very cool guy!
Very good movie! Back when Baseball was truly the American game!
Excellent documentary..
He's my substitute p.e teacher warlord
Great documentary.
Thank You . . .
Nice! Really, Really Nice!!!!
Excellent !
This was such a great story. Bing Russell was the true maverick. He should've been paid even more for that market that his team created, from nothing.
I've never really been a sports fan but this story was too irresistible to pass on. Watched last night & loved it. My question is: is there any way to obtain/watch the 2-part "The Baseball World of Joe Garagiola" special regarding the Mavs as mentioned in the film? Would love to see it but have struck out finding same. Great documentary, highly recommended.
+RalphCrammedIn I remember Joe G. being there.
Dudes I saw that movie and it was one of the best movies I ever saw! (If you comment start using the new hashtag, #the battered bastards)
I need to watch this. My Dad claims we've seen Kurt Russell play minor league baseball in Walla Walla Washington when I was a kid.
You had to be there. Portland is the greatest baseball city in the world.
+Tony Columbo I was there!
It's time Portland got its own MLB team. We deserve the Tampa Bay Rays franchise.
Unfortunately, Portland is not a big league town and more interested in hyper politics. Bring back Bud Clark.
@@esroot12 u seem like a pervert. Are you?
Loved this movie!!!! Just shows how commercialized baseball doesn’t have the heart independents do! We have a local A affiliate with the Diamondbacks and I love going to our 1300 seat park, the atmosphere is family like.. The major league fields are all about the $$$$$
Damn good movie!
Great documentary! What is the name of the song? Can't find it anywhere? Thanks
amaizing,...amazing......omg..the best documental ever!!!
Is BROCKER WAY in this movie!??😭❤
saw it last night great documentary!

This is what I wish baseball would be! All the unwritten rules in MLB kills the fun! The NFL did for a few years by making those creative celebrations illegal. Thankfully the NFL came back to it's senses.
Not a huge fan of baseball, I'd give it a watch with my son.
i'm in
Great film about a unique team that MLB tried to crush for years. I used to love the game but Major League Baseball took that away from me. The steroid era, Bud Selig, and the 1994-1995 strike were the final straws. Haven't paid any attention since though I've tied several times to rekindle my interest. They're nothing but a bunch of criminals in expensive business suits.
Amazing watch. Anyone know the song at the end of the film? Can't find anything about the soundtrack.
All of the music is original. Composed by the Way Brothers cousin. (All Bing's grandchildren)
mike weeks Thank you
It was all scored by their brother. The soundtrack is on Itunes and that song is the first track. It's titled "Man with a Broom (Make us a Show)."
Bree D Excuse me - you are correct - they are all brothers
Brocker Way - Man with a Broom (Make us a Show)
I love the movie. I hate Netflix.
+warlord did you go to Jackson
The Bernie Sanders of baseball!
I love everything about baseball except the actual game. Too slow. Sorry not sorry.
BUT this was a great film.
Great documentary but a really unfortunate name.
Exposes the sickening reality of MLB.
