Knowing Bronson's history and personality, that is a very touching story. I would imagine that it was probably quite difficult for him to express his appreciation to a young kid, but he clearly was moved by the simple gesture. He was a principled man.
Actually
When Charles Bronson died
He sent a note and a remote plane to Kurt Russell
This story really moved me. I heard that Charles Bronson had a very poor upbringing, so when he said that he never got a birthday gift before, it think it was coming from a very real memory. Kurt Russell is a really nice man.
Charles was from a extremely poor family ,I would see that as a reason.
@@jimmyfingers227 He was 11th of 15 children and his father was a coal miner who died while Charles was still young.
@theodoreconstantini2548
Or probably from exhaustion from having to work nonstop to feed an excessively large family! Breeding like mice will do that.
The first time Charles ate 3meals a day was when he was drafted by the military in ww2.
@@MartinD9999 No, working in the mines can do that to you.
This story also speaks so well of Kurt Russell's upbringing. His parents raised a respectful, thoughtful son who never forgot how to be- even after he became a huge name in Hollywood. Always had a lot of respect for Kurt Russell....
Charles Bronson was a good dude.
Good at being a bad dude...which is good.
@JW A It would be a very short interview, Bronson would head slap him saying "SHUT-UP"!
That guy knew better to tell Mr Bronson no. Unless be had a "death wish"
I guess Jill Ireland thought so too. RIP to you both.
Bronson grew up dirt poor in a coal mining town. His rough-hewn demeanor was reflective of having nothing and expecting nothing at an early age. Kurt Russell's story characterizes this. Always loved Charles Bronson.
They interviewed Chris Pratt and asked him what it was like working with Kurt Russell. He said when he came on-set everyone was in awe. He seems to be just a good person. Stable relationship for many many years, good kids, good father. I don't ever remember anything negative about him in the papers even though he grew up in hollywood. I'm glad to see is career has lasted this long and he continues to do good work. I always enjoy everything he's in.
mgnificent actor and always such value never a bad performance.always seems to be enjoying his work.almost unique given the curse on child actors making it as adults at that time.yet his career has just gone on and on and so many great movies and i hope many more.
What time is it? Let me check... Yep Kimmel still sucks.
I've actually heard ONE director say bad things about Kurt Russell. Not a director he worked with, though... On the Vice Squad bluray, director Gary Sherman said that his main actress, Season Hubley, was a real mess after her divorce from Kurt (they were married from 1979 to 1983). They had a messy divorce, Kurt was kinda cruel to her and the director implied that Kurt had cheated on her with Goldie Hawn...
There was a netflix special on Kurts dad ,minor league baseball owner in Portland, look it up ,very good story,Kurt played in the minors as well
That’s awesome
Only Kurt Russell would have a skateboarding story with Charles Bronson.
Such a great story.
Truer words were never spoken. Cheers
Kurt Russell too much man. ELVIS, CHARLES BRONSON, GOLDIE HAWN, HIS FATHER STARTED HIS OWN BASEBALL TEAM. Not to mention his own career.
Love guy. Big Trouble in Little China. 😁
Charles Bronson is one of my movie heroes from when I was a kid, Kurt Russel too.
That story warmed my heart.
And most of his regiment were killed .
Charles Bronson.........working those coal mines gave him one of the great natural physiques in Hollywood. A true tough guy. RIP sir.
A tremendous physical specimen even in his old age it showed real well check out the movie hard times
Jim Brown the great football player who was in the Dirty Dozen with Bronson said he was one of the toughest guys he ever met, and coming from him you know it's the truth.
He still had a damn 6 pack when he was in Death Wish 3
@@beardedbjorn5520 He seemed to be one of those guys that aged better once he got older. Even in Death Wish 5 when he was 70 years old, but he also was a great guy in real life too. Think he got wounded during WW2 when he served as a shooter on a plane. So one of my favorite male rolemodels.
Y’all need to see about Charles Bronson the prisoner. He’s a fing tough guy.
Charles Bronson grew up very poor and a son of mineworkers from Lithuania. He ended upin the mines at 10 years old! My father was also raised poor from a single Mom and a older brother and sister. When I was dating my wife, she baked a cake for my Dad for his 50th birthday. Pop said, "No one has ever baked a cake for me for my birthday." Pop ate that cake in a span of three months (put it in the freezer). I miss you Pop.
On 2Wheels this is a heartwarming story. Your wife is a sweet lady.
YW too you all.
On 2Wheels .......sounds like bullshit 🐮
That's what we get real character fiber strength respect loyalty honesty that's what your father had Charles Bronson and others God bless
in erinfeild pa 3 miles from me his sister is buried in the town I live in
Charles Bronson was an amazing human being and this story just cements it!
I always thought bronson was cool. now I am sure of it.
Not just cool tough s.o.b
man of few words
The prison guards disagree
Donald Task he’s talking about the actor
that is so sad that he never got a gift
One of the coolest up there with McQueen
The more I hear about Charles Bronson, the more I respect him. Thanks for sharing that, Kurt Russell.
Charles Bronson, the man that all men should aspire to be! He was masculine, tough, thoughtful, charismatic, polite, fair and a very kind man. Really wish we had more Charlie Bronsons around!
We should always ask what would Bronson do?

My favorite actor of all time !
What a great story about him and Kurt Russell !
Sagittariustoo mine too!!!!
I adore Bronson One of a few who doesn't need a first name. RIP
My favorite also.
The hardest men, usually have the softest hearts.
Charles Bronson and Kurt Russell, two of my favorite actors. Their acting was superb and I never doubted they were actually bad-asses on and off the set. And I love this story Kurt shared. A random act of kindness by Kurt Russell created an almost instant, and unlikely, friendship between a boy and what seems like a surly, isolated man. Truly inspiring. Cheers
I'm a huge Charles Bronson fan and I love Kurt Russell. I loved him most when he was a kid actor and doing all those Disney films. Really nice story he told about Chuck. I really think a lot of people misunderstood Charles Bronson. I think he was just a guy that kept to himself. I'm always drawn to actors like that.
Chris Greulich, I am as well!
Tom Hardy and Thomas Jane are like that also great actors and seem like good people .
Chuck 😅🤣
@@scottperry8354 I also liked Charles Connors in The Rifleman
Bronson was my favorite actor!! he was a war hero and a loving family man!! He was cool in the best ways!! hard to believe he's been gone for 20 years now
Great story and Kurt is great actor , Charles Bronson was one of the best RIP
Kurt Russell has had an unbelievable life and he is still humble and cool
Heartbreaking that Bronson never had anybody care that much but heartwarming that even tho he was treated that way he was so nice to Kurt. I respect him even more
Kurt Russell is one of the last ones who have these stories since he was a kid actor in that era of old Hollywood. One of the last ones around now that can give us these stories from that era via his personal experience. Not secondhand stories. Him and Goldie, they need to do a show or podcasts sharing stories from that era.
Wouldn't you just love to go the pub with Kurt and Goldie and have a pint with em :-) she is such a great girl and he is such a great guy.
@@redcropuk Indeed, they both seem like very genuine people, makes me enjoy that movie Overboard they did together even more.
Great idea!
I seen kurt Russell at Disneyland once, when I first saw him from a distance he looked like an uncle of mine and I thought it was my uncle, but as soon as he was getting closer, I heard his voice. It was him, I was star struck but didn't have the courage or didn't want to bother him, so as he passed I said best actor, best actor, I didn't even turn when he said thanks Alot man. Coolest day at Disneyland, it was right by the entrance to the jungle cruise
El Gallo Viejo.. Cool story. I've only been around a few famous people but I'm the same way. I don't want to bother them so I try not to...lol.
@anders damin yeah from working in the past security on different sets, I learned celebrities before they were famous were just like us, the average person in society, whether it be at a store, pumping gas whatever they're doing, they just miss being able to live their lives without being stopped everywhere they go, bad enough they got to deal with paparazzi.
El Gallo Viejo : nice

Kurt Russel can do no wrong. What an absolute legend.
Ohhhh he can but he won't which makes him a good man !
@@jerryholt1962 This is a perfect comment. Anyone can do wrong, no matter who they are. But when people do make mistakes, some make worse mistakes than others. Luckily for Kurt and the people around him, he’s been smart and humbled.
Wow.. that was a very touching story. . Charles Bronson was phenomenal in 'Once Upon A Time in The West"
Dave S. maybe the best western ever made
No maybe...it IS the best western ever made. Its the film that catapulted Bronson to stardom. Henry Fonda as the bad guy. Awesome!
Amazing film and iconic performance by Bronson.
@@ronniemassart3834 one year later...yes indeed friend. Each wonderful main character has their own music. RIP Ennio Morricone, the genius.
@@ajp368 ok, yes. Please watch 'Once upon a Time in The West' ps- be careful to concentrate on the 'massacre' scene where Henry Fonda's Bad Guys pretend to be Jason Robard's crew by wearing similar duster oilskin coats. Very pivotal to understand the motivations later. Enjoy the masterpiece!
I love Charles Bronson and that is such a touching, funny story. I know he could be difficult on a movie set, mainly just not very sociable and kept to himself. But I've always heard that he loved children and the kids are the ones he would always open up to and have fun with. He had a rather large family himself, and whenever possible he wanted them on the movie set with him when he was filming. A great family man. Which is the most important thing.
Love Charlie Bronson ❤ God Rest in Peace ❤
Kurt Russell has the best stories
Kurt Russell
Disney, Elvis, Goldie and now Bronson! Boy, could he write a memoir!

Charles Bronson is so tough, Chuck Norris makes memes of HIM.

Man i would have loved to see that at the theater.
Those two were always great entertainment. Icons.
Mr. Bronson would have been 100 today. I had to come back to watch this again.
Charles bronson is and always be the toughest of all of them. Karate chop from Norris a magnum to the head. A round house to the face from van dam a 45 to the heart. A punch from Arnold a 50 cal to his family. Charles was the toughest! Thanks kirk made my day!
When someone mentions Charles Bronson I think of the movie “Hard Times.”
Mr. Majestic!
Hard Times is my favorite movie of all time with perfect depression era settings. Right behind it is Kelly's Hero's.
Hard Times is my all time favorite C. Bronson movie. The slow burn plot, the action, the acting, Bronson's magnetism, James Coburn and not to mention the ending makes it a classic in my book.

The epitome of Charles Bronson in my mind is the movie “ Hard Times”. Sounds like he lived up to it.
Now this is the kind of stuff America really loves to hear about ; BRONSON !!! RIP BIG GUY !!!
The last scene in the first death wish, where he smiles at the thugs and using his finger as a gun...That is what i call a memorable scene...My father laughed when he saw that scene, i didnt understand it at the time but now i do...Bronson is a quiet lethal assassin...
Omg! That has to be one of the best stories I have ever heard!
Those two lines-“Nobody ever gave me a present for my birthday before...thanks," and telling the head of the studio, "We're gonna be skateboarding around the studio," right after they told Kurt not to-could be straight out of a Bronson flick. My friend's mentor who used to run the Pasadena Playhouse back when Charlie was studying there, said one of the teachers seemed so terrified of him, Bronson straight-up asked, "Do I scare you?", the teacher said, "Yes, Mr. Bronson, you scare me very much," to which Bronson replied, "I thought so," walked away, and from that point on showed zero respect for the dude, lol.
Only Jimmy Kimmel, could manage to almost derail this gem of a story

That's one of the neatest stories I've ever heard. Good for you and Charlie!
I never knew this story. It makes very happy that Charles took the time for a young Kurt Russell on the studio lot.
Mr Charles the real badass bronson
If you have never lived in Los Angeles, you wont believe me. People think actors have it easy, I am here to tell you I would rather be a stage hand with steady work. In the late 60s or early 70s Kurt stood behind my mom in the unemployment line. He waited patiently like everybody else and nobody bothered him. She said he was polite. Most actors make very little, you might know their fact, doesn't mean they are paid well. When I was in college on the east coast, I was doing stage management. The teacher for Drama was a semi retired acting coach who had stock in WCVB Boston. Not rich but well off. He was doing a play at the college and had a "Special Guest Star" for a small role, someone he had coached, never met the guy. A couple days before the play was to begin he was told the guy couldn't come because he had a guest bit shot, not a big role, on Battlestar Galactica. I was the only person not acting who knew the f'ing lines, they were my lighting cues. I was pressured into doing the role, it was maybe 5 minutes on stage and I hated every second. The real actor didn't get to come home for the holidays, worked maybe a week or so and had to break his word to his acting coach. At best the guy got ten or fifteen grand for his work; but, he was on screen in a speaking role with a named credit. Bruce Campbell has a very good book showing just how little some actors make and I mean actors you know by look and name.
Such a cool story. Bronson and Russell hanging around together. Such a nice guy.
Charles Bronson was an original badass/good guy on the screen. The man was legit and highly respected, had an interesting life.
The year was 1991 at the Woodstock Inn in Vermont and that’s where I saw Charles Bronson
I see him every single day, well tbh i see his doppelganger who happens to be my dad, 25 yr age difference but they could pass for identical twins when both were around the same age.
You're so lucky! I was born that year. But Charles Bronson is one of the best people ever
kurt russell is like the real life forrest gump, meeting all these famous people through out his life.
And from what I hear was the uncredited voice of Elvis in Forest Gump.
He met Goldie Hawn when he was 16. He started in the business really young, and is such a great guy was able to beat all odds and stay relevant throughout the years. It's crazy because he doesn't have any stories about him in the media. He's just a genuinely good guy. ❤ him!
That was some story....wow

Kurt Russell is the most humble coolest guy ever!!
A unique, TRUE tale indeed... and Kurt told it well. Thanks for posting.
The interview is about charles bronson but honestly I would LOVE to hear all the stories Kurt Russell has to tell. He worked with Elvis on his first movie and has played everything from Snake Plitzken to Captain Ron to Jack Burton. The guy is a legend in my opinion. I honestly think he would just be cool to hang out with. Seems like a genuinely nice guy. Not to mention probably the best head of hair in hollywood.
Kurt Russell is Hollywood's last legend. Phenomenal talent.
I always wished I looked like Charles Bronson. He was handsome, but you knew he was a guy you don't want to mess with.
Funny you should say that because my dad and Charles Bronson could easily pass for identical twins at around the same age even though there was a 25 year age gap between them. CB was born in 1921 and SD (my dad) was born in 1946, my dad is/was Charles Bronson's doppelganger and vice-versa. 👍👌✌
Kurt Russell also. Even from his very young years I sensed his inner and outer badass-ness. I had a very close friend who displayed many of the same traits. He was very likeable and never looked for trouble but if it found him his demeanor changed into genuine and extreme aggression. I saw many instances where confident bullies instantly showed their cowardice after messing with him.
Ironically his bark was MUCH stronger than his just above average bite but he never had to fight after his bark. I never saw him in a fight but I know for a fact he would have bravely fought anyone. He actually wanted with all his heart to fight them but much to his chagrin he scared them so badly it never happened. In those days it was a given that if you fought it had to be outside, in the parking lot. Without fail they all melted into complete humiliation and never went outside regardless of the numerous times they were asked to do so.
In my 63 years I've only seen one or two others with a more menacing and angry bark. It was utterly awe inspiring. Side note: It didn't hurt that not only was he fearless, his physical body looked like he could be very dangerous in an actual conflict. Cheers
Great story. I know Bronson will always be remembered for the Death Wish series... but I found his best film to be 'Hard Times'.

Charles Bronson...a Skateboarder...along with little Kurt Russell....LEGENDS!!!
Bronson came from very humble beginnings. It was said that he once had to wear one of his sister's dresses to school because he had nothing else to wear. People like him learned at a very early age the cold hard realities of the hardness of life. When going to bed hungry- because there's no food in the house and no way to any - was the rule rather than the exception. That moulds you into a hard-as-nails person. When he said he never got a birthday present- i totally believe that. Bronson later served in WWII in the army air corps as a gunner in a B-29. He flew 25 missions, was wounded, and received the purple heart. His hardness really translated well on the screen but as most people who knew him came to realize he was a M&M - hard outer shell with a soft center. One of my all-time favorite actors from a period where they used to call his type characters - the heavies. Charles Bronson, Steve Mcqueen, Clint Eastwood (post rawhide), Telly Savalas, james coburn, ernest borgnine, glenn ford, and lee marvin. All those guys were heavies. I'll throw an honorable mention out to Audie Murphy- while not a true heavy on-screen, he was a true badass in real life. I mean, he killed hundreds of Germans in the war. Honorable mention goes to air force general James Stewart and David Niven as well.
Look at that hair. It's wonderful.
Charles Bronson - " We're going to be skateboarding around the studio lot."
Executive - " Oh no you're not!"
Charles - " You gotta a Death Wish?!"
Executive - " I've changed my mind!"

Or, Studio exec - Oh no, you're not.
Bronson- Boy, oh boy, killing studio executives could get to be a habit with me.
Studio exec - On second thought, Mr. Bronson, you and the boy, can go ahead. Skate as long as you'd like. (nervous laughter).
Bronson- Let's go, Kurt!
