    I can’t believe it’s that easy! Thanks for sharing!

      It really is easy, just make sure you add a bus feeder to the track every so often to keep your voltage supply good and make sure you don't cross up your track and feeders.

    Thanks for this very helpful video, Ed. Back in the "olden days," I wired a layout for DC. That was before DCC came along. My current layout is wired for DCC, and I use an NCE PowerCab, which I really like. I have found wiring for DCC to be easier. I don't need a big control panel with lots of toggle switches, and I don't need to divide the layout up into bunch of electrical blocks. I like controlling the locomotives rather than blocks of track, and DCC allows me to do that. ...Roy

      Thanks for watching Mr. Roy, I never got big enough in the hobby before DCC to go through the DC wiring. Having an electrical background I can imagine the complexity of it. Thanks again-Ed.

    Hooking up a DDC system and wiring for one is really alot simpler then traditional DC.

      I was nervous, confused, and curious myself until it was converted on the layout. I've seen a few questions and comments on social media about swapping over so I figured why not. Thanks for watching -Ed

  • @handlaidtracksand3dprinted922

    Great video! Easy to understand and very helpful.
    I have a small 2'x4' layout that is all one single block.
    Sounds like there isn't any conversion to do other than plugging the Digitrax Evolution DCC system into my main bus? Thanks!

      May need to isolate the frog on your switches, but other than that should be plug and play. Keep me posted on your progress. Thanks for watching-Ed

    Thanks for the video. Very straight forward, well appreciated. I’m looking to convert to DCC. One question. If I connect the PCP to a Digitrax LNWI, will that allow me to use my iPad + App as a controller instead of buying a Power Cab as a controller?

    • @EagleValleyModelRailroad
      @EagleValleyModelRailroad  Před 3 lety +1

      I would be guessing if I said either way, I usually google search stuff like this, most of the time there are forums about whatever I'm asking about. Good luck on your research and great idea. Thanks for watching.-Ed.

    Sorry
    Don’t mean to sound ignorant but will the DCC conversion work on the older trains, like tyco or Lifelike locos? Or do I need an DCC specific loco?

    • @EagleValleyModelRailroad
      @EagleValleyModelRailroad  Před 2 lety

      The engine will need a DCC Decoder to recieve the signal from the Throttle. You can buy and install a Decoder for almost any DC engine. When buying a new engine they come in two options for DCC. DCC Equipt or on Board and DCC Ready. Equipt or on board means the Decoder is already installed DCC Ready means its pre-wired for the Decoder but not installed. Hope this helps and thanks for watching-Ed

  • @andre1dre
    @andre1dre Před 4 lety +1

    Is the PCP the reason you are able to do the conversion? Can a different controller be used instead of the NCE contoller? And what about turnouts, do those need to be converted? Thanks in advance.

    • @EagleValleyModelRailroad
      @EagleValleyModelRailroad  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks for watching, my understanding of the actual hardware is limited, but if I'm not mistaken each component must match manufacturers. As far as the turnouts, the only difference would be an insulated frog or a energized frog. In my experience no conversion needed. I use code 100 peco streamline track and insulated turnouts. Hope this helps. Thanks again for watching-Ed

    Can I run doc locos on my dc layout? Or do I have to modify them in some sort of way

    • @EagleValleyModelRailroad
      @EagleValleyModelRailroad  Před rokem

      They have to be modified. A DCC Decoder has to be installed.

    Is that RJ11 (phone cable)?

    • @EagleValleyModelRailroad
      @EagleValleyModelRailroad  Před 4 lety +1

      It is, the NCE comes with two cables one 6 conductor and the other is 4 conductor. The 6 is used with the power cab to supply track power and signal to the track, the 4 is use with an extra throttle and doesn't supply track power just signal. If you go to the 5amp booster that eliminates the need for the 6 conductor wire. Thanks for watching.-Ed

    • @EagleValleyModelRailroad

      Thats true but the same principles will apply to a full layout. Of course depending on your preference, wiring a switch for DCC can be more involved. Thanks for watching-Ed
