- Two time Russian National weightlifting champion, powerlifter and Strongman Mikhail 'Misha' Koklyaev sets out to beat a nearly century old world record with the ROGUE made 254lbs Rigoulot Bar.
The original record, a one-handed snatch of 253lbs, set by French weightlifter, Charles Rigoulot, was set in 1926. - Sport
"He wasn't a big guy..."
5'9, 220lbs. Yeah, okay bro. I don't know what the fuck this guy's standard for "big" is, but 220lbs at 5'9 means he was pretty fucking yoked.
LeBrons Hairline yeah 5'9 180-190 is big lol
LeBrons Hairline don't forget most of the guys at that competition are 6'3" 400lbs
Shiiit brother! I'm 5' 9" and about 180-190lb. I'm NOT big.... Not even once.
I think he means compared to other strongman competitors.
LeBrons Hairline 5'11" 330lbs its good loke Taranenko or Krastev
I'm sure Rigoulout practiced and mastered that, the guy trying it now was basically powering it. Asking Micha to do one hand snatch a 254 lb 8 foot bar is like asking Rigoulout to clean and squat jerk 500 lbs with a 450 lb warm up.
Forgot to mention that rigoulout weighed 120lbs lighter and didn't have the advancements we do today in nutrition, exercise science, & supplementation that Mikhail has greatly benefited from. Not busting your balls it just sounds like your making excuses for Mikhail.
Lol you niggas really have no idea about weightlifting, Misha is trying to snatch the bar (way more difficult) and rigolout did a "clean and jerk"
I'm sure Misha could clean and jerk that bar
@@taotekoncha6275 yea, I'm pretty sure 90% of the people here don't weightlift and have no idea how much more difficult the snatch is compared to a C&J, especially a single hand one.
@@taotekoncha6275 Man , did you watch the f*cking video ? There is a little video of Charles rigoulot snatching 253 lbs.
As a family member of Charles Rigoulot, it was great to see his record hold up.
+Shawn Rigoulot shut up loser, youre nobody
says the idiot who has to comment about a family member being happy their family members record held up. Go crawl back under the bridge troll.
Shawn Rigoulot youre not related to him... youre a random kid on the internet
Not that I care what some random guy on the internet has to say in the first place..first off I'm not a kid nor am I random and I am in fact related to him..majority of my family is still in France.. for your info.. including my older sister who just moved back... The fact that I have a family tree done by both me and a cousin on another side of my family (not a Rigoulot..not that it matters) who is in fact a professional genealogist for both the Mormon church and the sons and daughter of the American Revolution (which means she does this for a living and gets paid very well for doing it truthfully and accurately). You troglodytes can go back to smoking your crack and marring your sisters and thinking you know everything about everything and everybody. Cause there's no way anyone in the USA is related to anyone else with the same name anywhere else on the planet.
+Shawn Rigoulot so if you are really relatded to him, are you naturally stronger than other guys your age, like is it a genetical thing? Or did Charles Rigoulot just trained hard.
Hard to believe the comments by people discrediting the knowledge, training and results of lifters from decades past. The 1920's were not the Stone Age and the people that lived through that time period were every bit as capable as we are intellectually (and probably at an advantage in terms of not being glued to phones and social media). A lot has been learned about lifting since then but you guys talk about them like they're the Flintstones. Is it truly unthinkable that Rigoulot was just a fantastic, explosive athlete who worked on his craft for years?
I think if Misha had time to practice his technique, he could easily get that record. It is clear he has the strength.
Thank you Rogue for another quality clip!
More please!
Wer kommt auch von Kohlruss? 😁
rigolout's technique was completely different. he got his legs to the side but both underneath him. That may be the most difficult technical aspect of the lift.
Tim Nevinger fake weight mate
True...its completely different lift, just same barbell
For those questioning the legitness of rigoulot's lift his custom bar is actually still laying around in a gym in the north of paris and it is legit. For those wondering it is in the société athlétique montmartroise.
"Not a very big guy..." 0:58. Seems big to me... Sure not like strongmen today but come on...
solotopp looks like he’s on gear
He was only 5’8 and with reports saying 180-230lbs, that’s at least 4 inches shorter than most modern strongmen and less than 100lbs too.
Rigoulout had a form down that Misha didn't. Very specialized.
Rigolout wasn't even specialised. The guys back then were just willing to use forms outside of the norm is all.
Поздравляем Миша, успехов и удач...
Ok, so watch the video of Rigoulot doing the press at 0:51 then watch Misha try it. You cant tell me that is even close to the same weight. No bar deflection, no shudder in the joints. Either Mishas bar was not rigid enough or the weight Rigoulot did was less than advertised. Im guessing the latter.
why would they show a practice video? get out of your head, the bar didn't even look the same, fuck if he lifted that actual weight.
mike s the record is real he was known for how strong he was 87 years later Eddie halls deadlift record "the record is fake the bar didn't bend as much as the ones from tday so it must be fake" that's how it's all going to be
@@kimjongroid7945 lmao no, we have actual records and multiple videos from everything, if you fake about something nowadays, it's going to get leaked. People were retards back then, you could bullshit everyone.
He smashed the 220 pounder though!! So damn impressive still. Nearly had it...they should includes these sorts of events in the proper Arnold Strongman.
This is why Fortimus was so epic. They took past events and weights, and made events out of them. That first year's natural stones, is still the most impressive stone related event I've ever seen. That rock, that Poundstone lifted at the end.... unreal!!
+Hamzah Jundi totally agree, that would definitely shake up the leaderboard from the usual suspects.
Can he please have another go at this, it would be awesome!!
Holy shit! MY max snatch is 230# with both hands!
That's fucking insane. Wow!
Awesome content
That was awesome. Definitely wanna see strongman do this more. If you want do it after the comp and make it not count towards the winner but rather as an exhibition event for entertainment with the winner getting a cash prize
Back in the 1900-1920´s these guys practiced a lot one hand OHP, see Inch, Cyr or Saxon. You see in the old footage a different technique...I would say a side press. It comes from the family of windmill, side press and bent press. So the guy who wants to lift that has to practice these ancient lifts. Vala morgulis
I see why we stopped doing this lift. Looks cool but seems super dangerous on many levels.
Bring it back for Arnold Classic 2017 ?
Hell yeah!
That was impressive, noone im sure can even get chest high with that bar.
250lbs with one hand and before steroids were even invented. W.
+Rogue-Fitness Can you please upload Big Z's attempt of 507 lbs log ?
Would the original 253# globe barbell that Charles Rigoulot one armed snatched been knurled or would it have been a smooth(ish) bar.
the old rigoulot bar didnt seem as long as the modern one. would length make it easier or harder to lift?
Go Misha GO!!!
Stop, don't read the comments, there are a lot of uneducated and non-researched ideas going around about how magical the world was 100 years ago.
timecrashzero
*IT'S THE GOAT MEAT!!!*
Rogue if you sold these Rigoulot bars I would buy one.
All that machining is going to be damn expensive.
Guys back then actually worked and had real strength.
There are a lot of ignorant people in the comment section so let me enlighten them. The strongmen who set these records had a very different training ideal than we do today. Back then, if you asked someone, "How much do you lift?", they didn't tell you their bench press. They told you how much could they lift from the floor and press overhead as that was considered the true test of a man's strength. Therefore, they did a massive amount of training for those lifts. As far as the amount of weight being inflated, the 1920's isn't some ancient time, many of the original implements they used are still around in various collections so they have been verified.
fortissimo mishaaaa 🙌👍👍👍
+Rogue Fitness Can you please upload Big Z's attempt to lift 507 lbs log ????
Thanks in advance
Micha playing guitar rocks
That's more than i bench....
no fucking way that record is real
Rigoulot praticed the movement a lot. I think it is absolutely possible.
If it come to Weightlifters about shoulder, grip strength and explosive-power movements, then It may be real.
Old-school athletes might not have drug back then, but they had one of the best life style for developing strength - try living in the early 20th century and you will see what I mean. Plus, unlike us, they all blessed with great genetics which had lasted for hundred years. (After more than 100 years of gunpower war and 2 WWs, many people died, among them were many people with good genetics. That may explain we can hardly break some old-school records because we don't have their means) I can tell by seeing few athletes with natural massive forearms and great wrist strength today.
By the way: Sorry about the pathetic moaning about our late-generation lacks of good genetics.
Ngọc Kim Quang Hồ In response to your argument about genetics: we still have the same variance in genetic composition, because, its not there were more genetically gifted people in the army than non-gifted ones. Everyone was sent to fight and die... infact, the more gifted people would actually have a higher chance of survival.
At first, I thought just like you... But somehow I still can't believe it :( War is brutal. But more and more, I think that only the strongest and luckiest, but it might fall into "tolerance" and "mental" directory. Having tons of muscle and god-like strength could never help you survive from being shot by bullets and explosive... Unlike cold-steel warfare, we all had the same chance from survive...
Sorry for the pessimistic moan again. Now, do you believe it?
MarkyBhoy I slightly disagree that mechanized warfare would select for "better" people (outside just the evolutionary definition of better meaning those that survive). For one, gun warfare selects for smaller/shorter people (less likely to get hit). Also selects for less courageous people (if you tried to get out of military service or were more careful in battle you would be more likely to survive). This is the opposite of ancient warfare where bigger people were more likely to survive, and where courageous people who succeeded in battle would get more women so they could reproduce more.
this guy looks like markus rhul
Could somebody please give me that song name when Mikhail walks out? It's giving me such a rush.
Danny Rose - Redemption
Rigoulot snatched to a bent press position, which probably made it more stable in the arm lock position, then he could just straighten out instead of squat up.
Hope someone does break it someday.
Лайк за Мишу!)))
Did anyone notice that the technique was different? Charles R. Didn't do the split jerk.
I believe he did it.
He may not have locked out but I beleive he did it.
That moment though 2:45.So close,brother!
3:23 Heinz Ollesch
"Big Arms and How to Develop Them," 1938 by Bob Hoffman on page 20 says "Rigoulot's arm measurement exceeds 18 inches."
Edit: A photo of his whole body is on page 73.
Rigoulout must be like usopp swinging 5ton hammer
Almost 100 years ago a guy in the 20s without steroids or PEDs or even supplements did 253lbs
a guy in 2015 modern world with all kind of PEDs , 4x weightlifting champand , 6'4ft, over 250lbs and has unofficial world records Couldnt Lift it.
how come ppl were so strong back in the day
teslation they had clean of polution goat meat ;)
teslation It's very likely that lifts back then were inflated to appease a crowd in some kind of event.
If that isn't the case, remember, Charles Riguolot probably had a decade+ of training with that bar and the movement.
Buuuut I'm probably not the only one who's going with the former, not the latter.
kickenwing30 I was thinking that the weight probably was just for show (inflated), but it appears he did this in competition, not some sideshow, which is what I had assumed, to be honest. He was also an Olympic gold medalist.
kickenwing30 Yeah, just looking at Rigoulot, he didn't look like he could snatch 253 one handed. Snatching 253 with two hands is something most people can't do.
If he did indeed do it, and none of us were there to weigh the bar, he no doubt spent years practising the lift.
Misha clearly had the strength, it was the balance and whip that were the issue, something that he would get used to if he really wanted to make it part of his training.
Martins might be able to do this
Charles Rigoulot my favourite superhero :-)
fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Rigoulot
weight : 100 kg - clean and jerk : 185 kg (with old barbell)
Ernest Cadine was also a great weightlifter .

NO STEROIDS! PURE STRENGTH! NATURAL!
People really where built better back then. Sure we break records constantly... with improved surfaces.. equipment... textiles... I mean I watched this documentary on how basically footwear and track surfaces makes up for the majority of advances in sprint records, and the cycle makes up the majority of advances in cycling records. Despite out knowledge on training and nutrition, there are some things we just cant do as well.
I think with a less explosive technic he could do it
How did they measure the weight back in the 20's accurately enough for it to be a reliable number?
The original bar would have been harder because the globe ends would have been cast , therefore uneven. The bar itself would have also likely be drawn rather than solid rod that has been machined to perfection. It would have felt like the difference between a kettlebell Vs modern dumb bell.
I like his T Shirt.
***** If you were there and very lucky, you could have had it, he took it off and threw it.
Nick Kraw It has European pagan warrior symbols on it. We must go back to our roots.
+Zoopy Joobles Look up Rudiarius. That is what the shirt is about.
Горбатый!!! Я сказал горбатый!!!
Heinz Ollesch at 2:54.
Koklyaev could have done this 3 or 4 years ago, he just wasn't in his best shape.
I can do that. Here. Hold my beer...
Lol this is the same to say a sprinter from 1920s could hav run faster than usain bolt
Right, lol bullshit
So was Rigoulot's lift legit? It's the perfect bar to hide how much you lift
ни чего, Миша еще покажет вам!!!
It's like he is trying to lift my fat ass with one arm!! 💪
0.8 mark henry?
Jewqs Fewtyv yeah retired, is a judge now and wwe part time
The original bar width was more clise. Too wide
Misha is a modern oly lifter with modern technik and 2 time stronger Rigoulot an 50 overweight... rigoulot C.J 2 hands max is 400lbs...400lbs in WL modern is (on a modern bar ) is a perf in capacity of everyone with serious training (in Rigoulot 230 weight class).... but in grip Rigoulot is very superior and if he had a modern coach he can hope success 450lbs in CJ on moden bar..no more. Misha is a monster...he can SNATCH this load..... its true .bar is very important.... for me my actual technique C.J max is around 410lbs...with my new ELEIKO ... but if i try to lift that with my stiff power bar..my forearms and my shoulders are destroyed. Its no possible.
***** exact ..but im sure misha hand size is different than rigoulot... his grip is better. But ist not essentially. .. Rigoulot is a strong .normal man.....Koklyaev is a monster.. ... (or Savickas with in more oly technik..).. ...
***** im curious to know issue ....a bar battle between Misha and Taranenko...(the lonely man realy one step upper Koklyaev strengt level...266in cj...for a 5'10" little guy....imagibe him with a "modern" standar height of 6"2.)..???
Rigoulot didn't have steroids
as they got this bar made now klokov doesn't compete he should just train to get that he will get it easy
Mateuz should practice for this
Alexeyev did 235 in the '70's which they thought was a world record then.
I can't even dead lift that
Adam Greenlee seriously? I did 220lbs on my first try
Not a very big guy, 5'9 220lbs ? What hows that not big
rigoulot: practices his entire life to make a WORLD RECORD LIFT
comments: yeah but he had different technique. DISCREDITED
it needs special practice...lifting same weight with short barbell would have been a lot easier cause lots of effort goes in balancing it
This is a short explosive man's lift.
Oh c'mon these things are supposed to end on a wolrd record
There must be a reason why this record wasn't beaten for 90+ years now. And they just want some guy to beat it without any special preparation or nuthin.
I believe that the record is real. People did tons more manual labor and times were harder. They didn't have grocery stores with everything in it let alone fast food
Mr C nope look how easy he did it, surely he could have done more then?? Fake weight mate
bad form on micha doing a split jerk instead of like a one arm snatch
breaking a world record with +1 pounds is not breaking it at all. You have to outdo the record holder by ~ 4 to 5% but preferably more.
tbh u guys saying it was "fake" are showing ur ignorance of strength sports. For one, their forms are different, the ending position is different. That's pretty damn obvious by...looking at. Two Old time dudes trained/practiced one handed stuff WAY more often then modern dudes do. Like outside onehanded clean and press with Dumbbells, no one has really cared about one handed movements for 50 or so years. They did windmills, side presses, bent presses, one hand snatch, clean and press. All that shit. Three I'd say him being short helped with him getting it too.
0:22 Why does Ian Maclean look like he's never slept?
grüße vom dicken
Don't have time to read every comment..... however I will make my statement on this video.
It just goes to show how soft some of the world has gotten in 100 years. They said Charles Rigoulot was only 220lbs. Life was harder then and you had to be tough. With the right training I am sure someone with the same build type could do what he did. The human body has a lot of potential if trained. But today's society is going towards what was depicted in W.A.L.L.E.
People try to create things to make life easier and in turn it makes us lazier.
For anybody asking 'why where they so much stronger back in the day..?' you want to look up anecdotal evidence:-)
I seriously think the lifts “proclaimed” in the early 1900’s were exaggerated
Call Dimitry Kolkov to break that record....
KEY OF RIGOULOT SUCCEES IS BALANCE....he was a gymnast.... and in 1920'" lifters never use jumps or thig srenght....just pull with arms .... Koklyaev never learn that .but barbell take off more hight !!!!! .. but forearm cannot follow...LARATT or CYPLENKOV can do this lift...im sure !!!!
Many people back "in the day" were incredibly strong! In many ways we are so arrogant today and always think we have evolved, when we have actually devolved. Heck, do a search on the old time strong men and be amazed. Even Abe Lincoln was stronger than most anybody today. For instance, how many people can lift a nine pound axe straight out horizontal from their body between their thumb and forefinger (NOT between the webbing for leverage!) for over three minutes. I tried the other day with an 8 pound axe. Are you kidding me?! Try it and see just how strong ole' Abe was. His feats of strength when he was young were legendary. Check people like Thomas Topham and Angus Macaskill out also. All without drugs!
Samson was no slouch
0:08 mark Henry
Anyone else having trouble believing this record is legit?
When a record in weightlifting is 83 years old...you know it's bogus to begin with.
Get breaking records are cool but some records are so amazing and the time periods are incomparable they should be left alone.
The bar is too weepy
They keep on pronouncing Rigoulot wrong
It sucks he just got sent to jail for vehicular manslaughter in Russia. Was driving drunk in Russia and hit someone when we was hauling ass.
GTFO? Really?
Attempt...Pathetic.
JESUS CHRIST IS COMING BACK PEOPLE REPENT OF YOUR SINS AND ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST AS YOUR SAVIOR TODAY NOT TOMORROW PEOPLE WHICH IS PROMISED TO NOONE ON THIS EARTH AT ALL.
Shame this is embarrassing. This guy's like twice his size, *_trains_* as a strongman, knows techniques, more knowledge and is straining like he's lifting a car over his head. He should be able to smash the little guy.
When the old people say they don't make them like they used to, seeing things like this really gives meaning to the phrase.
And i bet there were farmers, construction workers, dock workers and what have you a lot stronger than Rigolout back then.
drew13600
Even if he could clean and jerk the entire universe. He still didn't lift the bar....
drew13600
So based on your information. The entire Arnold Strongman Association and official record keepers have been fooled? The record is a hoax?
drew13600
Put it this way.
Do i think they're lying?
No
Do i think they're telling the truth?
I can't conclude because i will need to know that for myself.
short is stronger. that is the key. this records will always belong to
I don't know why but this is amusing.
