    Have had trouble in the past with a mates car(skyline/rb30) many years ago. Coincidentally running a the same brand of manifold. Took the wastegate off and just left a big hole in the manifold, still made 15psi@5000rpm, spiking up sharply.. Solution was the cut and shut a better wastegate outlet into the collector. I'll give you the hot tip, don't bother calling the manufacturer, he got quite upset when we made the suggestion that his manifold was causing the issue at hand, even after explaining the test we ran above.

      I've heard he doesn't take criticism very well.

    Haltech's closed loop boost control is pretty neat, compared to a regular EBC. I love how you can have it apply DC corrections vs intake temps. No more boost running away on cold Winter mornings - or no boost at all on hot Summer days, for that matter.
    Weird boost control issues on that build though... you WOULD think a 45mm gate would be plenty enough for that turbo/engine combination. As you said, must be something to do with the manifold design...

      Its very odd, 6 boost put quite a lot of R&D into their manifolds. and plenty of people use them on 3RZ's. So you would think the provision for the gate would be adequately sized for the engine its designed to work with. But last time it was here we did hours and hours of fault finding on the dyno and it seems as though its just too small or a priority flow issue or perhaps both?

    • @mrsabidji
      @mrsabidji Před 2 lety

      @@BoostGumps Yes, priority flow issue would have been my guess... but as you say, really weird that 6boost wouldn't have seen that in R&D. Faulty wastegate not opening fully maybe? Can't remember if you said you had looked into that.

      @@BoostGumps 100% gate is too small and the turbo is incorrectly sized for a 3rz. Have you plotted a GTX3076 on a 3rz before ? Its not even on the island until where it's running away from you. This is the problem with 6boost manifolds on 3rz's... They're designed for people who are trying to make 400+ hp (where a 45mm gate is sufficient). Have just been through this all man so I feel your pain. Customer needs to either block the wastegate port, run the gate off the housing or change to a 60mm gate.. Clearly not enough R&D either as the new 3RZ manifolds now don't allow the steering column to be lowered all the way without interfering with the manifold lol.
