    Doug Jones as The Creature From the Black Lagoon. He did it in "The Shape of Water". :) :) :)

      "The Shape of Water" is good as far as I like monster movies. There are some disturbing scenes that even I felt were over the top, but all in all, I actually enjoyed it since "The Creature From the Black Lagoon" is my favorite of all the Universal Monster movies.

    To me, I think “Creature From the Black Lagoon” should be left untouched. To me, it’s one of those Universal horror movies like “Jaws” or “The Invisible Man” that should be preserved the way it’s always been shown to audiences over decades. But, I am glad Antonia is excited for this!

    great news! and i must tell you this. at 56 i have returned to college. i befriended a young man, age 21. he is a walking encyclopedia of the classic universal films. he makes incredible practical effects props that pay homage to the spirit of uncle carl's classics. it is great to find younger people who still appreciate the beauty, quality and care of those early films.

    Invisible Man (2020) was the scariest freaking thing ever. Elizabeth Moss could make a great antihero going forward as the power of the invisibility suit corrupts her.
    The Creature is timeless and you can take it in so many directions. High hopes.
    Thanks, dude! 10/10 fricheks

    Fun Fact: Quatermass creator Nigel Kneale was approached to write a remake of CFTBL back in the 90's, but the project ended up in development hell before a full screenplay draft could be completed.

    They should leave it alone. Hard to top the orignal. Never seen aquaman. Guillemoro Del Toros the shape of water was as close to a semi spritual remake to the creature of the black lagoon. I did not know carpenter was going to direct a remake to the creature from the black lagoon.

    I remember the film from the mid-70’s called Slithis. I never saw this movie. It was believed to be an extreme remake of Creature From The Black Lagoon. Later came Humanoids From The Deep(a Roger Corman production).
    My favorite classic Universal monsters were as follows: The Wolf Man. It was a film was a fast pace and a suspenseful build up.
    The Creature From The Black Lagoon. Here was a being that was the perfect predator. Slow on land but deadly up close(or if one is dumb enough to fight him).
    I watched the short-lived Swamp Thing series. James Wan did an excellent job with creating the atmosphere of the swamp. If he directs this adaptation, I would like to see it. It would probably be a good idea if the setting was in the 1960’s instead of today. That would work out if the production wasn’t going to be using a lot of CGI(maybe a snake or a crocodile in passing or a Komodo dragon doing a walk through). The human actors will also be using revolvers or lever action and bolt action rifles instead of automatic rifles.
    The location for filming of the 1954 film, was in Silver Springs resort.
    Writer(s). Shane Black. Quentin Tarantino. Terry Rossio. Drew Goddard(Cloverfield). Just to name a few.
    What was your favorite classic Universal opening presentation? I grew up loving the theme composed by Jimmy McHugh(I think that’s his name) with the brassy opening with the trombones, French horns and trumpets. My favorite.

    Mixed feelings..... I have read reviews that the only negatives of The Creature is the music is to loud and one reviewer said Kay should have worn Keds Tennis shoes in the movie.... So that means The Creature is a 10/10 (I agree) so why remake it?? However Jame Wan is probably the best Horror director working at this time. I would love to see what he would do with The Creature. It will be a must see in theaters for me.

    I think this one while a classic, it is more for the "monster" and some of the achievements they were able to do as far as filming in original Creature movie. Of the original Universal Horror movies, it is on the lower end of the scale for me as far as story/characters. I still love it! But I'd prefer Dracula, Wolfman, Frankenstein, or the Invisible Man over it. Those scratch the itch more. And unlike these others, Creature from the Black Lagoon has not received the numerous remakes/reconstructions that these others I mentioned have gotten over time. Being a HUGE fan of the Monster Squad movie from the 80's, I always appreciated their version, and it has just been a HUGE, missed opportunity to not have given this "monster" it's long overdue time in the spotlight once again! I do not like remakes, but I do think this has lots of potential for a new story, or fresh retelling.

  • @jimmyc6741
    @jimmyc6741 Před 23 dny +1

    I think the reason why Creature from the Black Lagoon is so special is because maybe there hasn't been a remake of this classic. I say leave it alone. There have been several remakes of others like Dracula and Frankenstein and none of them match the originals. But if they're going to do it, they should remake it in black in white. I think it'll be more effective that way. I agree with you Antonia, that they should not CGI it.

  • @Lezard_Valeth
    @Lezard_Valeth Před 29 dny +2

    Something they propably won't recreate with good reason is the original movie having the Gilman actor actually swim and dive in the suit. That is insane in the best possible way but i think it would be seen as dangerous to the stuntman nowadays so it will propably not look as good. Propably cgi just like Aquaman. I hope the creature at least isn't all cgi. I get that people in costumes is not for modern audiences but i think suit + animatronic + cgi would look amazing.

    • @AntoniaCarlotta
      @AntoniaCarlotta  Před 29 dny +1

      Yeah, I understand it's crazy to ask for no CGI, but I think a blend is the way to go. I'm just afraid the new Creature is going to end up with laser eyes and wild super powers, and that's "hell no" from me.

  • @stainshield
    @stainshield Před 28 dny +2

    I got nothing against remakes/reboots as long as they are done right like don't let the actors take over which was the mistake Alex Kurtzman made with The Mummy when he gave Tom Cruise too much control.

  • @dan_hitchman007
    @dan_hitchman007 Před 29 dny +1

    The essence of so many of these classic creature features like the original and the 1970's remake of "King Kong" and "Creature From The Black Lagoon" is big horny monster tries to get the hot girl and goes on a violent rampage when he can't have her. It's a metaphor for primal lust. I very much doubt James Wan would bring that to a modern interpretation of the Creature. The monster would probably be portrayed as some misunderstood softy looking for a "friend" who gets attacked for no reason, which then ruins the whole point of these films in the first place... like Peter Jackson's version of "King Kong."

    Here’s what I think the story line will be. Fishermen capture a strange-looking fish like creature in their net. It’s a baby or very young thing. They send it to a lab to study it. About a week later here comes mama or papa looking for their child and starts wrecking wherever they go. The ‘creature’ won’t look anything like our beloved Black Lagoon humsnoid-type creature. The film, like most re-makes will not be good. This is just MY opinion, and I could very well be incorrect. But I don’t think so. We’ll have to wait and see. I hope I am happily surprised.

    Imo he is the wrong director for a movie like this. It should be someone that can direct a film with more emotion. A director known for dramas. A good writer can let the horror elements flow from a dramatic story, and a good director can translate that into a good movie. Wan's filmography doesn't really highlight this kind of range. A remake of this classic should leave the viewer with something to think about afterwards. I'm also afraid he'd want to rely heavily on CGI. The creature should be practical effects as much as possible.
