Thai Language for Travelers - The Basics - Ep.1

- Changing things up this week! Several people have asked me to do a Thai language lesson, so here it is! Since Thailand is probably a place many of you want to visit (for visit again, for some of you!) this will probably come in handy sooner or later. Being a tourist in a country whose language you don't speak can be frustrating, and with just a few words in your pocket, not only can it help you communicate, it can also help to break the ice with the locals-Thai people love it when we see foreigners actually try to speak in Thai. It shows that you're making an effort, and it might just get you that little bit of help you need :)
There will be a whole series of Thai lesson videos coming up, so this first one goes over all the basics, and the next couple will tackle words and phrases that are useful when eating around Thailand. Let me know if you have suggestions on other videos around Thai language and culture!

About Pai:
Pailin “Pai” Chongchitnant is the author of the Hot Thai Kitchen cookbook, co-host of a Canadian TV series One World Kitchen on Gusto TV, and creator and host of the CZcams channel Pailin's Kitchen.
Pai was born and raised in southern Thailand where she spent much of her "playtime" in the kitchen. She traveled to Canada to study Nutritional Sciences at the University of British Columbia, and was later trained as a chef at Le Cordon Bleu culinary school in San Francisco.
After working in both Western and Thai professional kitchens, she decided that her passion really lies in educating and empowering others to cook at home via CZcams videos, her cookbook, and cooking classes. Thai language isn't hard in grammar, but hard in tone of word. The melody of word will make foreigners confuses easily. But don't worry if you guys come to Thailand and try to communicate with ppl in Thai, every with help and Thai ppl love the foreigners who try to speak in Thai
im farang who love going to Thailand I have had over 100 hours of thai classes. I love trying to speak thai with thai people. I still have a lot to learn specially with tones but I love it.

True, I had a hard time explaining on the buss that I wanted to go to tuk Chang, (elephant building) the tuk was pronounced durk, got there in the end with the help of people on the buss, everybody helped, that's what thailand is about... 🇹🇭👍

Thanks for this video! My friend traveled to Thailand for this first time in February and has been corresponding with a woman he met while there. I’ve been trying to teach him some phrases but you’ve summed everything up perfectly.
For yes/no questions, I sometimes just answer with a “ka” as a positive acknowledgement of the question. Mainly this is when speaking to my parents or their friends, but as you said, it’s situational. Looking forward to more language videos!

As a half ‘farang’ child, I really appreciate learning the correct way of speaking. I think a lot of us half thais who grow up in other countries, don’t learn the proper thai way of speaking but can get by. Thank you for the video 💕 I always enjoy them
