    We get to have our way with a Wahoo KICKR Core to put it through the paces on both Zwift and TrainerRoad. From road feel to accuracy, features to functions, and comparison against the higher end KICKR 2018 - it's all here!

    Note that during the Zwift ride a cable got bumped out of laptop causing some ANT+ stick dropouts briefly. Our bad.

    About heightadjustment on the feets. I had an old trainer that i bought for $50 many years ago. Pretty bad, but it had the same rubberfeets, but with a difference. It had different height on the rubber every 60 degree, so you could rotate it to make a height adjustment. Wahoo should steal that idea, and it cost nothing extra really.

    Comparing the Kickr and Core with the Neo and Flux is the freedom of movement in the Wahoo trainers to use the Climb. Even if not using the Climb it has I would think the potential to reduce dropout strain and wear.

    Thanks for this video and the separate full review you wrote on the KICKR Core. It wasn't because you're giving the product a big thumbs up, but because of the honest and super-detailed coverage of the Core is why I just bought one. Keep up the good work to helping cyclists stay informed!

    It's an interesting concept and the the quiet drive is a game changer for Kickr vs Neo. But checking the Wahoo site they're pricing this at £799 in the UK. For £200 more I can get the Kickr. Compared to the Direto and TacxFlux2 its target competition they're pricing themselves out. Should be £649 to £699 max. Direto is £600-650 now. Wahoo are you listening?

    • @stephenbetley9596
      @stephenbetley9596 Před 6 lety +2

      Seems they listened. Pre-order is £699. Definite challenger in the mid-range. May eventually kill off wheel-on imo.

    Thanks for this vid that adds to your online blog review. It answers one of the big questions I had: Can you adjust the leveling of the feet with this unit. Right away I see that answer is "no" and I'll have to re-think this unit since my space is on a cement floor that isn't particularly level!

  • @adammillsindustries.
    @adammillsindustries. Před 6 lety +1

    Like Dude!! The Neo is now £999 in the U.K. and blows everything out of the water. You don’t even have to plug it in. Also it flexes when you’re out of the saddle so it feels so realistic. The best thing about KickR is the software and easier to move around.

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  Před 6 lety +2

      But the CORE is £699, so that's a 50% (lazy math) increase. I love/prefer the Neo too...but different price bracket.

    • @adammillsindustries.
      @adammillsindustries. Před 6 lety +1

      DC Rainmaker I know, as much as I love your reviews I can’t make my mind up. I’ve been changing my mind for two weeks now. I have a wahoo bolt so that would be good with kickr. I have £1000 budget, the cyclops hammer looks very good for the money too.

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  Před 6 lety +1

      Yeah, it's a tricky one. I don't think you'll go wrong with the Neo. The only outstanding question is whether or not you care about something like the CLIMB down the road. I also would note that I would put very little value on BOLT to KICKR integration, mostly because I suspect you'll rarely use such integration these days.

    • @adammillsindustries.
      @adammillsindustries. Před 6 lety

      DC Rainmaker The Neo is in 1st place for now. I still think the cyclops hammer is good value over here.

    Hey DC, I know this is an old video but with any luck you’ll respond. I just got a kickr core and the power reads approx 10% higher than my Assioma’s. I know the pedals are accurate as they’ve been consistent over the past year with other power meters. Wahoo is saying it’s within range. Any thoughts?

  • @ZOB4
    @ZOB4 Před 6 lety +3

    It's going to bring the pricing temptingly close to the KickR Snap. Wish I had waited a year to buy my Snap. Wonder if they'll offer an upgrade incentive.

    • @glenporteous1492
      @glenporteous1492 Před 6 lety +1

      z.browning I thought the same only buying a Snap 3 days ago but once you buy a cassette etc it’s still another $550 additional. At least that’s how I sell it to myself 😛😉

    • @ZOB4
      @ZOB4 Před 6 lety +1

      I bought a used wheel from my bike shop and a new cassette already to not wear our tires on the trainer or have to switch to a trainer-specific tire every time I wanted to ride inside. That set up works well, costing about $100 total for the wheel and cassette, so not so bad. I also live in an apartment and could use the pretty much complete silence of a direct drive, especially with that new super-quiet belt. If they offer a trade-in incentive, I'll probably exchange it.

    • @glenporteous1492
      @glenporteous1492 Před 6 lety

      z.browning I’ve tried a complete slick 700x23 tyre and it’s completely quiet, can not hear the bike verses a new tyre I had that had more grip which made similar but quieter noise to the Kickr. I’ve tried both and the ride feel is only marginally better on the Kickr IMO. Where I struggle is getting my bike in the middle of the roller despite many adjustments made!! If I get it flush in the middle it’s far too loose??? Bizarre

  • @GearMashers
    @GearMashers Před 6 lety +1

    First off, great job on the review.
    Do you think with the new trainer design, that the trainers are any more accurate than the 2017 KICKR models? Stats on Wahoo's website say that both the 2017 model and 2018 KICKR models are +/- 2%
    Did you happen to ask Wahoo how they were able to keep the 2018 KICKR the same weight as the 2017 model (47 pounds) even though they added a 16 lb flywheel vs a 12.5 flywheel? Did they add titanium or something to reduce the overall trainer weight.
    One of the reasons I bet they created the KICKR CORE was to address the trainer weight issue that some people had. Some people complained that the KICKR was a bit on the heavy side when trying to transport it.

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  Před 6 lety +2

      The Elite Drivo 1/2 and the Tacx Neo are generally provably more accurate across more scenarios. As for the total KICKR weight, I tried to weigh it on my bike hanging scale, but that officially topped out at 44 pounds and gave an error (it usually weighs up to about 47-48 pounds though before it errors). I've gotta get the final/official boxed weight - since that keeps it under the 50 pound weight limit.

    Hey Ray (and Shane) - if its really just the drive belt that makes the new KICKRS that much quieter, do you know if Wahoo has any plans to sell said, new belt, to existing KICKR owner's as an upgrade? Love my KICKR, but would also love to shed some of its dB's!

    • @willernst
      @willernst Před 6 lety

  • @ATG1985

    How was this unit while sprinting? I find the standard Kickr jolts and lifts when going for a spring, and would think that without support or clamps, the core setup wouldn’t work.

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  Před 6 lety +3

      No issues. Both Shane and I gave it a whirl, and he brought it up to 1,500w. There was a fair bit of movement than I think Shane will show in his video, but it was also on semi-unstable gravel too.

      I wonder if the Core is more or less stable than the 2017 KICKR, that could make a difference. My guess is the 2017 KICKR will be phased out. I would want the 2018 KICKR because it is heavier and also has the heavier flywheel. 16 lb vs Core's 12 lb flywheel.

    • @wahoofitness
