The Best Döner Kebab In Berlin | Legendary Eats

- Döner Kebabs are all over Berlin, likely because a Turkish-German man saw a need for cheap, portable lunch for the city’s many laborers. It’s thought that the first döner kebab sandwich was sold in 1972, using the same meat rotisseries that have been popular throughout Turkey and beyond for centuries. Today, locals and tourists alike line up at Mustafa’s Gemüse Kebap, a small unassuming stall that opened in 2006. We visit the shop, speak to its founder as well as customers about what makes Mustafa’s the best döner kebab in Berlin.

No way I'd wait 45 minutes or even an hour for a Döner Kebab. You can have a decent one on almost every corner in Berlin without the long wait. If you have to tick it off on your to-do list because your travel guide said so you might be inclined to go through that ordeal, otherwise just spare your time and enjoy the city. Greetings from Berlin!

Hey fair enough! 😊
Mustafa is for tourists. Berliners have Döner somewhere else.
Walking 5 minutes from Mustafa you will find other Döners with crispy meat as it should be.
Every S-Bahn and every U-Bahn got some Döner.
This in public transportation in Berlin. Most people don't bother about a car as the trains run every 3 to 10 minutes.
Most people in Berlin cannot afford a car and there is no parking space anyway. Public transportation makes more sense than driving round the block for a parking spot for 20 minutes.

That's completely false.
It is not the best döner kebap in Berlin. Real Berliners never eat from this place. You can find only tourist or Germans from other cities there. With almost no exceptions, you can find real locals at this place.
The döner might be delicious but compared to the other döner restaurants and stalls it is just the peak of the iceberg.
Agreed, and keep your mouh shut about the good ones, lol.
The netherlands might have danker ones tbh. There is this local joint called ''hellal shoarma''

Junge ich war da der war jetzt nicht so krass, wie alle tun.
In erster Linie freuen wir uns für Mehmet.
I've been all over Germany, and I have tried all kinds of döner. The best I've ever came across was in Gießen Germany. There is a place called the Döner triangle in Gießen (well it's known as that to the locals). In this one location there are about six Döner Restaurants in very close proximity to each other. Here you can find what ever floats your boat. I like the Döner king because of the sauce and meat they have. They have six different sauces to choose from. My friend swears by the one called tandoor or something like that where they cook the bread in a wood stove. I think a lot of people like this place because of that but I find the Döner there to be small compared to the other places.
I've been to Giessen once or twice, but never went there :(. If I ever go back to Germany, I'll have to go there!
Dönerdreieck is what it is called in German.
Haha, I lived in Gießen for a year very close to the Dönerdreieck and there are indeed very good ones but I still prefer Oruc in Cologne over them.
@@frederic604 i think it's funny that you call it cologne. I wonder why people do that. 🤔 I wonder how people got cologne from Köln?

Best Döner in Berlin are Hakkiki and Ugur.
Ugur serves Döner for almost 38 Years in the Same Delicoius Quality. Handmade Bread and Real Meat.
They are both in Wedding. Youre Welcome.
Well, to be fair: it's not the best Döner - not even in Berlin. There are many, many other Döner Kebab in different cities all over Germany who are way better than Mustafa's. That doesn't mean the Döner is bad, but his "Gemüse Döner" version is more normal than you think. You've to visit different places and find your own "best" version of a Döner.
Sanguisvinum In case you come across Mannheim: Vefa Grill- Restaurant 😏
YEH DUDE COME TO TURKEY. BEST IS TURKISH DONER
Almost every small town to big city in germany has atleast one Döner Kebab shop alot have multiple. and everyone claims to have the best one in their city i figured out that its mostly about personal attachment and liking to "your" shop. Its not always about quality taste or service alot of shops got this right. Almost all Dönershops ive been going to i made friends with the owner or the servers i tip them we talk while they prep. and thats what makes a Döner great for me just enjoying it. Mustafa's gemüse Döner is not what i expect of a Döner. i wouldnt que 30 mins for ordering i wanna go in tell them what i want and recieve it after 10 min max.
The screen is somehow blocking my fingers from reaching the food...
*WHY SCREEN WHY*
Here is my biggest issue with this video. Knowing very well that their are many Döner places in Berlin as good and many even better than mustafas, I have to wonder if I watch the videos about your recommendations from other cities and countries are you also presenting a place that is a good average as the absolute best and I'm falling for it?
Or is this an outlier and your more on the mark in other reporting?

You're right about the Döner. But i think videos like this are good because it keeps the tourists away from the good ones. Also I can laugh at stupid tourists and "Neu Berliner" who wait half an hour for a mediocre Döner when I pass Mustafas lmao
@@40ozfreezinmaballs What a pathetic way to want to feel superior. Get some self-esteem, friend.
From my Döner experience the meat is what makes a good Döner. Here it looks like they are using a standard, maybe more premium meat but still ordered frozen from a factory, like most standard Döner places do, they are using a standard gas system wich brings no additional flavor like a choal or woodfired system would bring... overall the döner is still very good im sure, but definetly not the best
Hmm yeah you are right.

woodfire enhances the flavor of slow cooking foods. A döner may look like it's slow cooking, but it's just cooking the outside layer while the inside remains raw, and each layer cooks quite quickly individually. But yeah, woodfired stuff is quite popular, same with pizza. It doesn't ansorb any smoky flavour in the 90 seconds of baking, but still people who don't know anything about pizza think woodoven is better than gas or electric
Omg...I miss this so much!!! Icould feel the delicious smell in the air
It's not even the correct bread they use. Not the typical Döner

@Yiğit Haluk Kurt this is German style döner. In Turkey I've never seen such colorful döner. Sure it's core ( meat is grilling while it turns on a stand) is Turkish but this version is unique to Germany. it seems this is a combine of Turkish-German culinary culture. ( I would love to try these). In Turkey to me the best döner is when we eat it on plate with rice, beans and cacık. In Turkey bread and dürüm doners are so simple it is mostly meat and some small additional veggies ( not much).
The best doner I've ever had was in Malberg Germany. I miss living there :(

I've had a lot of kebab from around the world and Berlin has a few top spots for sure!
This is just for tourists. Real Berliner knows the best Döner's in Berlin abd it isn't Mustafa's
Döner is not mid eastern food. It's an authentic Turkish food which originated in Bursa Turkey in the form of Iskender Kebap. Sure now many mid eastern countries(and also in countries at other parts of the world) have similar versions of it under different names but this does not make it a mid eastern food. The main differences between Turkish and German versions is that Turkish döner focuses on meat while German döner focuses on sauce.
What really stood out to me was the sheer amount of vegetables in the German version and the fact that it really is not a wrap of any kind but just a mass of meat and vegetables between two slices of fairly thick bread. No complaints with the sauce I had in the German Donar but I think I usually like the nice mix of sauces in a Turkish version better.
Anyway they are both good and you can see where the German one traces its ancestry back to Turkey, but they are a somewhat different experience.
