    Another great tour, man! A Vectrex would be cool to have one day.
    And I appreciate hearing what games have English as an option. Making a list right now. Thanks.

    Thanks for taking us along. I especially appreciated the deep dive in PS1-land. At first a few prices seemed a bit higher than I expected. Then I remembered it’s 135 yen to the dollar these days. I really need to get to Japan.

      PS1 has an amazing game library. And the horror games available are vast it seems.
      Not only do you have a favorable exchange rate, but some shops are tax free for purchases over ¥5,000, cheers!

    It astounds me how clean the Japanese games and systems are. You go into retro stores in the Western Market and see stuff from 1-2 generations ago and they look like someone has used them for target practice. Those Famicom era games are pristine and they are mid 80's! Some of the consoles arent far behind. Great to see!

    • @RetroReWire
      @RetroReWire  Před rokem

      Indeed. It’s crazy to think that some of these games are approaching 40 years and that they’re in such great condition. Cheers!

      As particular as I am, I really notice the condition of games here in the States. I can't even count how many times I have had to pass on games due to condition issues. It is definitely hit or miss here.

      @@btread8875 You speak the truth! I am the same way. I recall that some of the shops I was a regular at (in the Portland, OR area) would permit me behind the counter as they knew I was very particular about condition, haha!

    Great video! The Mario coming out of the pipe is actually a cookie jar which you can buy in Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. I did like the Disk holder very much. Never seen that before, so thank you for bringing that under our attention.

    Ooohh! I’ve been there back in December. Seems that it’s well stocked now. Got a very nice condish PS Vita Slim for cheap, around USD 100.

      @@RetroReWire Got the white and light blue color. I picked the two black OG ones first but turned out to be duds when tested. Settled for the light blue since it is the cleanest looking and the screen is flawless.
      Still there’s a lot of boxed Nintendo consoles on display there. Been looking for a loose dogbone NES/FC controller but those are usually bundled with the consoles. I’ll try my luck next time
      That branch in Chiba is not exactly commuter friendly though, need to walk from a bus stop. Good thing we got a rental courtesy from our Airbnb host.

    Thanks for taking us into this Hard Off, JJ. I will be traveling to Japan in a week so this video was really helpful for giving me ideas for games to pick up and the pricing I can expect. By the way, Mario games in the States are quite a bit more expensive than those in Japan. You can be sure that I will be looking to pick up some 3DS Mario titles.
    Really liked seeing that Vectrex. Man....is that expensive though! Glad I picked up one here in the US over a decade ago. The prices were definitely cheaper then (less than $100). Still, this is the first Vectrex I have ever seen in a Hard Off video so the price is going to be a bit high. Was that the Milton Bradley version from the States or was that the Bandai version?

    • @RetroReWire
      @RetroReWire  Před rokem

      The Mario 3DS games are mostly a dime a dozen in Japan. You should score some sweet deals on all things Mario!
      The Vectrex featured in the video is the OG 1982 model from Milton-Bradley. It’s the only one I’ve seen in Japan thus far. Pretty cool looking machine.
      I hope you enjoy your trip to Japan, cheers!
