Unless you were hellbent on using the LC7i, the PAC AMPPro AP4-CH41 (R.2) would have been a much better choice to interface with the radio. It's a plug and play device that provides clean 6 Channel RCA outputs or Toslink output for your amps. Plus, it works better for the factory chimes, parking sensors and navigation. You would still use the ANC bypass and access the factory wiring for speaker outputs.

Great video! The reason your speakers lose bass is because factory speakers are highly optimized to perform in the factory doors. Essentially factory speakers are like hybrid subwoofers sort of. With any after market speaker you replace, you must sound deadened the doors to really enhance the bass output. I guarantee if you sound deadened the doors your system will sound much cleaner and your cabin will be quieter. Of course you can always do more than just deadening the doors :)

The factory dash speakers look like midrange speakers but they are crossed over to be tweeters
When you put an aftermarket speaker usually it’s a component 3.5” and usually it’s either 4ohm or 3ohm in the case of the infinity.
Half the impedance.. twice the power + your adding a midrange that isn’t crossover at 9k hz like the factory dash speaker. That’s why it sounds louder.. and also if you like sound stage you WANT the dash speakers to pull the sound up high and in front of you.

I just finished my speaker upgrade in my Ram 3500 (2018, so previous body style from this). I also had problems with bass basically vanishing after my upgrade. Come to find out, I think the factory speakers are inverted polarity and when you install new ones they're not inverted anymore with the metra adapters. So with the subwoofer installed from the factory you wind up with the sub and the door speakers basically cancelling out a lot of each other's low end and then your music seems bassless. Just something to keep an eye on. You can get a phone app that will tell you what polarity your running. The polarity itself matters less than making sure it's all the same.

Get the Kenwood Excelon KFC-XP6903C for the front. They have a filter for the dash and a choke for the doors. Best investment I made for my truck. Even the factory head unit drives em hard. Spent over 1k on my wifes car trying to get hers to sounds as good as mine with just that upgrade.
If you have an 18+ with the touch screen get AmpPro from PAC if you want to amplify. Pure signal out with no bass roll off.

Awesome Video with best explanation I've found so far for upgrading. I have a 2019 Ram 1500 - Quad Cab though and trying to figure out the best way to upgrade my stereo and have not been able to find any solutions for adding a sub. Since yours is a crew cab I'm not sure if the under seat dimensions are similar with the seats of a quad cab. I've heard many different observations, some saying that the bench seats are almost the same since the main difference between the Crew and Quad Cab is the extra leg room. So I'm hoping a similar sub box solution might work also for an quad cab version of the Ram 1500 truck. Thanks again for your detail info on everything.

So, if I use the LC7i just like you did, I don't need the PAC AMP Pro AP4CH1 like everyone on the 5th Gen forum is using? And I'm not sure why I others use both. I have a 2019 RAM 1500 with the base stereo as well. I am confused if I need the PAC AMP Pro AP4-CH1 and the LC7i so I don't lose anything or if the LC7i will be good enough alone. I already got the aftermarket ANC bypass.

Generally everyone just cuts the and and leaves the wires cut. The noise canceling will severely mess with you’re overall sound quality. This is something we figured out ages ago on Cadillacs. It does provide a nice easy play to tap into the speaker wires but we leave that anc cut and disabled 99.9% if the time in all vehicles. Have to know the vehicle and specially how it works.. cause sometimes the anc is built into the factory amp on high end factory systems. Not an with external amp but if trying to run factory amp for door speakers sometimes this won’t work.
Pac makes incredible products but most often I just use t taps and the wires.

So you only ran two rca outputs from the lc7 to the amp? To be able to adjust them and wires the sub from the amp only correct? Dont need a separate channel rca for the sub? If so, could i get away with an lc2i instead ?

    • @WaterFowler41
      @WaterFowler41  Před měsícem

If you ONLY want to do a subwoofer, yes an LC2 will do the trick. I ran the 4 signals into the LC7 to sum them (add highs and lows together) then ran those signals into the amps so each channel receives a FULL signal. The 5 channel amp has a filter channel so I fed my subwoofer with that signal.
If you use just the lc2, you will splice into the two front channels not completely cut the wire and feed them into the lc2, then send that signal into the amp for your sub.

Questions: when it comes to the LC7i, that adds the feature for “AccuBass” but I noticed you don’t have that spare channel used to output to your amp. I guess, how do you route your sub if not from the LC7i? Does the Alpine Amp filter the sub frequencies appropriately just with those speaker inputs? If you have a v6 it’s very likely you do not have ANC and it’ll be just an amp.

Come to find out, its an Alpine amp. Doesn't say Alpine on it, and I don't have a factory sub. But the pic is identical. I bought a similar adapter from PAC, and about to go see what happens. Should work fine.

      No. I have a 5.7 Hemi

Through trial and error, I have discovered that I DO have a factory sub! I have no idea how to access it, being that I have a Quadcab, and can't get to the release cords. Other than that, still trying to figure these adapters... 🤔😠😔

these speakers are not a direct fit nor the correct size. 6x9 is the correct size and direct fit had to order again :|

6.5 and 5.25 fit in 6x9 holes. Crutchfield adapters with the speakers. 100% bolt on. If you bought the speakers from somewhere else, you probably didn’t get the adapters.

@@WaterFowler41 got the adapters but its not worth downgrading speaker sizes and not just buy the 6x9 directly..

add a 4 ohm resistor to your dash speakers. It will balance the power being sent. Door speakers stock are 4 ohm, dash speakers stock are 8 ohm. quess what happens with the extra 4 ohms of resistance when they are changed to a 4 ohm speaker? drives the dash speaker with more power.

Did you need load resistors before the LC7i?

I ended up installing AudioControl AC-LGD 20 later on when I installed the 12” screen because I didn’t have enough load on the speakers and the head unit would go into safe mode.
