  • The video starts at Karioi, where a Crew change takes place.
Next is a look at some of the goings on in the area while we wait for the train to be assembled.
Before the Pulp Train 245 is about to depart it is found to be overloaded and some shunting is required to reduce its load.
The Northbound "Overlander" and a Northbound Goods are seen crossing the Tangiwai River and our train while shunting is still proceeding.
The footage ends as a Crew depart Palmerston North, south towards Wellington.
I hope you enjoy this operation as much as I did.

Hi Roland, I dont know if you will see this but I was wondering if you knew my Dad Barry Floyd. I have photo's in an old album of his with a few of them having the name "Rolly" attached. I know there easily could be others with the name but thought if it is you, you may be interested to see them.

Hi Warren, yes I knew your Dad "Barry", he was my very first Driver once we moved to the Milson Yard complex. He was a very nice chap. That would have been about 1965. I was shocked to hear he had died, after I came back to the job in the 1970's. Later I worked with your Uncle Ray, we were both Shunters in the Milson Yard and both of us had worked as Farm Fencing Contractors in the early 1970's.
I would indeed like to see the photos, thankyou for the offer.

Yep, another worth viewing, thanks. What was the grand plan for that little offshoot to the left as you come of the Feilding passing loop? 35:38

If you are referring to heading south, maybe it had been used as a backshunt in the past?
Now it is just to protect the Mainline, instead of just catchpoints.

I may be able to help with this. Those sent of points that were originally part of the Ravensdowns small yard. Yard hasn't been a thing for years now and there is very little that remains of it.

@@SpottingWithSam Thanks for that response MMT. Since I put it up I've noticed there are a lot of similar anomalies around the area.

Thank you for this video. I haven't seen the North Island beyond Upper Hutt from the ground, so videos like this are a great way to see the country while also being along for the ride!
