Yep its bad. Its got the charm of unique weapons at least that you don't see often. (More if you use the weapon unlocker patch for the strangly console exclusive XM8 and an other one or two and the few cut weapons) but even for budget bargin trash enemies pretty much use one weapon with no attachments and the fact you have to turn the difficulty down to easy so the later game enemies "Only" kill you with 2 shotgun blasts at range just makes it frustrating. You even got weapons like the CAR 12 (Which has a different name IRL) or that multi-barreled pistol that are literally in no other video game and screwing around with them is the only reason I occasionally play this game, you can also exploit the mission select function to choose your weapons all the time even when weapons are supposed to carry over from the previous level. Heck, the game actually has 4! grenade types, Frag, Smoke, Flashbang and incenidary yet only frags are available in the campaign. You can also with most pistols anf as few of the smgs press the Grenade Launcher button to hold it with two hands which is kinda cool. If the difficulty was more fair, the game was a little longer, enemies used most of the games weapons and with attachments and the different locations actually stood out instead of basically being the same jungle-y desert-y environment copy-pasted, this could have at least passed for a mediocre game with a unique weapons set instead of an outright bad one with a good weapons set.

I have seen people complain about bad boss battles in many games where the characters are normal humans but its probably really difficult to make a cool boss battle if they are not allowed to use advanced sci-fi weapons or magic or superpowers or being mutated into a monster or other similar stuff. Even in stuff like Batman Arkham Asylum for example how would you make a good boss battle against the Joker if hes just regular Joker?

I’ve been using this game’s weapon models for VRChat, and I can say that the Iron Sight’s are perfectly fine. No idea why the guns aim in that specific way.
The camera angle and shooting animations should be the gold standard for modern first person shooters.Shooting in that game was more satisfying than COD seris.
Yeah, I noticed that too, and the pistols and rifles reload the same too. Guess they got really lazy and just reused the assets without changing anything.
Pretty sure the Bar model is from Battle for The Pacific, and the black powder guns are all from the History Channel Civil War games. Nothing was original.
Having 3 reload animations for the m16 is actually really cool, ive never seen that in a game. The reason it's has 2 empty reloads is because normally the bolt is held open after the last bullet, but you would manually close the bolt if you were putting it away so it doesn't automatically chamber a round. If the bolt is closed you need to manually charge it when you reload
Many many people have been trying to tell me this but this is not what's happening in the animation. The bolt is still open in the animation even when pulling the charging handle back. This would work on a regular AR, it's just an odd choice.
The Darkness 1 changed my life. I had never heard of it before the game came out, and I'm a huge first person shooter fan, but I also love sci-fi fantasy and dark horror... I look forward to the darkness again~

Me and my dad used to play a shitton of this game's MP since it was one of the few games that had no DRM and just let you play the multiplayer cracked out of the box. Looking at it now the game is pretty crappy but damn do I have fond memories of it.
I remember when i first played this game. Got it for rent at a blockbuster when i was like 9, after BB no longer accepted bribes to just buy a for-rent game. I loved it because no other game i had played had so much gore. And of course, i was 9 with ADHD, so i never even cared about plot or actual gameplay. I never made it past level 3, i think. that oddity about the different reloads from swapping weapons is a Cauldron thing. It was in a Cauldron hunting FPS called Cabela's Big Game Hunter: 2010 as well.
Back in like 2008 me and my friends played the hell out of this game in multiplayer. It has cool maps and the variety of guns and their extensions make it super fun. Plus it was way more accessible than smth like Call of Duty or Battlefield. I picked up one pirate copy (don't judge me, in my remote place that was all I could find), and I shared it with friends. Its kind of the story behind dawn of war Soulstorm's development, the game was very heavy with bugs some even game breaking where some people say they crash after beating the dark elder's stronghold which makes the campaign basically unbeatable because you have to defeat all the factions at their strongholds to knock them out of the game, there's also the issue with the maps themselves as there's a few points where pieces from the tabletop game which is what relic used as an inspiration mind you for the dawn of war series were used on the maps in soulstorm, there's also the issue with the flying units not exactly functioning as they intended which the best example I can give would be if there was one unit on high ground and the flying unit was over the cliff as for whatever reason because of the positioning of the flying unit it just wouldn't attack even if it would be within range.
Love the of PS1 intro music. if I had a gaming channel I'll would used original Xbox music with the with green lightning sound when you power the console on.
The point you make at 8:40 is pure truth, i still play and enjoy the game BLACK more than most fps that come out today because of how awesome the gun feels in that game, the textures and reloading animations are top notch, the sound is meaty and powerful for all weapons. Also when you shoot at walls or in the ground the amount of dirt and debris thrown up by the bullets is awesome
@Jesus Christ dude i played it less than a month ago on pc, the graphics and gameplay still holds hup to this day (it's not top notch but it's better than fortshit)
Omg duuuude i used to watch your airsoft videos!!!! I bought a kwa from you!!! Hahaha when you said jared the arab dragon i was like nooooo waaaaaay. Goddamn so long, glad to see you doing well man.
Yo uhhh, i bought the game on gog and i need help with the sound. I tried to find a solution (and used the ''legacy'' sound fix thing, but that didnt work) could you post your solution in the comments/description?
Far from looking bad, pretty decent for the time and well optimised (could run it on an old laptop i had at that time and it ran smoothly) gunplay is decent, quite fun trying new loadouts, story is an inexcusable piece of shit and doesn't deserve be part the SOF franchise, never run into those problem that you mentioned in the beginning(might be wrong as i played it 10 years ago), the gore is an extreme downgrade from SOF II, guns felt nice but lacking impact on enemies(a little bit of the peashooter effect, enemies died easily but they didn't flinch or anything, it was more of a "careful push"). Pretty accurate review, a subject of it's time, and a bad one at it but a nice little time waster as the campaign was pretty short
What's the music from 16:35-ish? I'm pretty sure I know what it is but can't place my finger on it. Sounds good tho EDIT: GOT IT! Perturbator - Disco Inferno.
Great video! I remember having fond memories of the general gun play and mind numbing action/violence lol. I definitely remember the horrid voice acting and lack of “story” too though haha. Would play it again if I still had a PS3
I remember having to buy a special video card called voodoo when I was a kid just to get SOA : Doublr Helix to worm....god it was so awesome 27 years ago. Legit had M16 Ak47 MP5 And a sniper rifle/pistol and I still remember all 3 maps lol. Depending on where you shot that changed the outcome of the way the body was affected. Damn, the good ol days. And it was banned in Australia.
I remember this game was subscriber prize of Korean monthly military magazine called "Platoon". Wonder who got this game as prize and what would happened to him or her after playthrough.
I thought GOG releases were supposed to work on newer OS without any problems. That's the main difference between this platform games and let's say Steam.
SF2 was my first first real online shooter. Played socaladmin. Scrimmed in leagues, was so much fun. Still one of the best multiplayer FPS I’ve played to date.
What's even weirder that SOF Payback (more or less its assets like the some of the sounds, maps, guns etc) were used, and made into Korean F2P MMOFPS, just called SOF Online, made by Dragonfly who made Soldier Front 1 & 2. Too bad it never really left beta and seems like theres no way to play it now, only early 240p-360p videos on YT really exist of it.
This game was wildly difficult at times, if they make another (which they def should).. Just please make sure the games works.. But anyone who played has to admit that going round with a shotgun blasting arms and legs off was fun
On the comment about the g36 and xm8; its oft mentioned that the xm8 was really just an export g36 for the American military, I'd guess that there's some level of compatibility.
I have the Australian version and it's so weird, the enemies just fall down with literally zero effects and very weak ragdoll. You blow up an enemie and they don't even go flying, they just fall down
I think it’s because with the M16/M4 family the bolt can slam forward if you smack the stock while the bolt is held back by the bolt hold open after the last round. Go ahead try it
I actually have a physical copy of this thing. I tried installing it on my typical laptop, but that laptop wasn't shit (much less than my Acer Predator rig, but it can run this), and the game DOESN'T WORK. Like JFC, the first level lags so bad to the point I can't do anything
You can download a patch and the games good to go resolution and hit detection fixed. I can't remember doing anything else i can't get SOF II to work on windows 10 though il get around to it one day.
A friend and i actually made a mod for this game that made bosses have normal enemy health and added ironsights into it, the game might have been horrid but im happy it exists so i could meet my best friend 👌🏻
The Multiplayer was AWESOME !!! you where able to teamkill the whole time without getting banned; even better everytime you teamkilled someone or just killed yourself you scored 1 minus point for the whole team!! Even when teamkilling was turned off, you could still kill your teammates with phosphor frags. It was a total Trollfest!!!! And i was playing with a cracked version!! haha thats how good the game is guys!

I don't care what anyone sais the worst shit in this is the fact that you cand ADS properly
Devs were Eastern European budget devs, the Cauldron. The only decent budget FPS game they made was Jurassic: The Hunted.
That's because most of the weapons in it are just reused assets from their other games unfortunately
: the song I believe used for the boss fight where Jarek just had enough is Disco Inferno, from the “Uncanny Valley” album by Perturbator
This game is soooooo freaking bad it hurts Seeing it again😣🤣
Love the of PS1 intro music. if I had a gaming channel I'll would used original Xbox music with the with green lightning sound when you power the console on.
That intro and this review has earned you a subscriber, friend
15:32 “Good Point.”
BAM
Yo what music did you use for your intro I swear I’ve heard it before I just can’t remember it’s driving me crazy
How about a link to all the mods and fixes that you're using?
I played it when I was a kid and I liked it then. Not sure if I want to replay it now tho.
6:26 "don't trust anyone with two first names" he's right though 😉
Only in America would someone name their kid Mason.
Sounds good tho
EDIT: GOT IT! Perturbator - Disco Inferno.
12:15 look at the enemies spawning in
Great video! I remember having fond memories of the general gun play and mind numbing action/violence lol. I definitely remember the horrid voice acting and lack of “story” too though haha. Would play it again if I still had a PS3
I was listening to a LEGO Star Wars death sound playlist and this was on it...
I remember having to buy a special video card called voodoo when I was a kid just to get SOA : Doublr Helix to worm....god it was so awesome 27 years ago. Legit had
M16
Ak47
MP5
And a sniper rifle/pistol and I still remember all 3 maps lol. Depending on where you shot that changed the outcome of the way the body was affected. Damn, the good ol days.
And it was banned in Australia.
Rush, 2 or Banshee?
:)
love it! please review more old fps, keep it up!
so that's gavin, his friend has been looking for him
This video made me interested in this game and picked it up yesterday, was actually fun till that last level.
I got this recently too and Im about to make a video on the graphics mod
Jesus, that bloom at 13:11.
I remember this game was subscriber prize of Korean monthly military magazine called "Platoon".
Wonder who got this game as prize and what would happened to him or her after playthrough.
I remember playing this on the ps3 years ago. Personally, I enjoyed it. Perhaps I was too young to be bothered by all the bad stuff in the game xD.
I like your comments about the gun being the character in these games.
Have you played the Project Brutality mod (especially version 3.0) for the classic DOOM games yet?
First game was great! Still boot it up from time to time.
So what's the name the song you were listening at 16:17?
I thought GOG releases were supposed to work on newer OS without any problems. That's the main difference between this platform games and let's say Steam.
They do. Just some games are garbage ports
SF2 was my first first real online shooter. Played socaladmin. Scrimmed in leagues, was so much fun. Still one of the best multiplayer FPS I’ve played to date.
16:17 oh wow i was rewatching this video and i just realized that you were listening to disco inferno thats sick
That's pertubator I'm pretty sure. Don't really remember what it was, not disco inferno though.
@@Jarekthegamingdragonyeah you're right it is perturbator but the song is called disco inferno it's from the uncanny valley album
Anybody know if this guy reviewed airsoft guns like 5 years ago? I feel like I remember watching Jarek4 do that
What if I were to say that my full name is Billy Bob Barry?
Great review jarek,👍
Is that a ranger Zarya (overwatch) as your background?
Not even close. lol. It's this. i.imgur.com/VhhPgXZ.png I actually hate hero shooters and really dislike how every shooter needs to adopt heroes.
I recognize some of the animations from cauldron’s hunting games (the Ar-15 (car-12), the m1014, and the pump’s reloads)
@JarekTheGamingDragon where can I get the Audio fix .dll file?
8:25
the g36 and xm8 never had a special grenade launcher made for them
but the m203 can fit on piccatiny rails depending on the variant
The G36 and XM8 do have a grenade launcher made for them. It's the AG36.
Played it when it came out, don't remember the story.
Loved the gun play. Remember the laser range finder.
100 5.56 ammunition can't kill you?
WOWEE GAME DESIGN
What's even weirder that SOF Payback (more or less its assets like the some of the sounds, maps, guns etc) were used, and made into Korean F2P MMOFPS, just called SOF Online, made by Dragonfly who made Soldier Front 1 & 2. Too bad it never really left beta and seems like theres no way to play it now, only early 240p-360p videos on YT really exist of it.
2:30
lmao he flew
This game was wildly difficult at times, if they make another (which they def should).. Just please make sure the games works.. But anyone who played has to admit that going round with a shotgun blasting arms and legs off was fun
I actually played this game, on the PS3. I couldn't get past that one level where you had an escort mission in the jungle
On the comment about the g36 and xm8; its oft mentioned that the xm8 was really just an export g36 for the American military, I'd guess that there's some level of compatibility.
Bruh I was looking for vids of this game i forgot what it was called but I found it thank god. This is nostalgic
Go ahead try it
Some say he is still shooting the sniper to this day
I actually have a physical copy of this thing. I tried installing it on my typical laptop, but that laptop wasn't shit (much less than my Acer Predator rig, but it can run this), and the game DOESN'T WORK. Like JFC, the first level lags so bad to the point I can't do anything
If "Difficulty Spike" had a it's place in the dictionary the exemple would be Hotel mission from this game.
You can download a patch and the games good to go resolution and hit detection fixed. I can't remember doing anything else i can't get SOF II to work on windows 10 though il get around to it one day.
What does this have to do with lego star wars death sounds?
The ps1 bootup sound in the intro ♥
"I dance sekzy foar yuuuuue" member that part?
A friend and i actually made a mod for this game that made bosses have normal enemy health and added ironsights into it, the game might have been horrid but im happy it exists so i could meet my best friend 👌🏻
Hey, this isn’t a LEGO death sound!
Had it for 360 back in the day growing up and I thought it was pretty cool, lot of good memories, don’t really get gore etc in games nowadays
