The BEST Fighter Aircraft in History? | Messerschmitt BF109

- The most successful fighter Aircraft in History, will probably never be bested. And here is why
The Messerschmitt BF109 was by far the most advanced Aircraft of its time.
With more than 35.000 airframes built, it is the second most produced fighter aircraft in history.
Unlike the enemy counterparts, the Bf109 had a fuel-injection system that maintained a steady supply of fuel no matter what maneuvers the pilot put the plane through. This gave an incredible advantage in
air-to-air combat.
The BF109 could be adapted for every situation the war would bring. It can be a deadly hunter or a steady bomber. Only the latest Spitfire Models of the United Kingdom would proof to be an equal opponent.
It first saw operational service in 1937 and was still was many years after WW2.
It is not likely that a single modern Jet Fighter will be produced in such high numbers and bring so many innovations like the BF109 did. Or, is it? what do you think?

The, 109 was the best advanced fighter at the start of, WW2 but not the most advanced fighter throughout the war.
True, it aged well until 1943 I would say.
@@paramishin4869 War was lost for Germany by 1943
The FW190... the 109's big brother.
Well yeah you can also argue that by 1944 Germany had lost air superiority in most fronts so it's also no big surprise that its pilots would start to underperform
@@jerryjeromehawkins1712 the 109 came first didn’t it
I somewhat agree. It was a very good plane, and so far, the highest amount of kills of any Fighter family of all time. Its biggest flaw was its landing gear, which made it difficult to land, and it was equal to the mustang in terms of turning, and was not much of an outlier. It also needs mention that many of the highest scoring Aces in history flew the 109.
Why did the landing gear make the landings hard?
@@GGGaming-by9vz because it wasn’t wide enough. The distance between the main landing gear wheels wasn’t large, which made the plane prone to tipping over during landing, taxiing, and takeoff. Not only that, but it wasn’t the strongest either, which lead to the gear collapsing at times. Not often, but still noteworthy. I think the corrected this in later models. This is a problem the spitfire had too, iirc.
@@justacanadianguy07 oh okay. The spitfire and the bf109 have the same type of landing gear in that sense that they open towards the center. I guess the fw190s and the american planes' landing gear styles were sturdier
@@GGGaming-by9vz yes, they were much sturdier.
I seen a documentary about the battle of Britain they interviewed a few surviving 109 pilots ,one said " you could get behind the spitfire, put him in your gun sights, give him every bullet you had and still not hit that little bastard"!!!
His voice sounds Bavarian or austrian
Not Bavarian at all, fully Austrian ;)
What Claus says
Sounds like German English

Jeder erfahrene Pilot hat die Me109 der FW190 vorgezogen, weil sie ein exzellentes Leistungsgewicht hatte und sich dadurch den US Fighter entziehen konnte.
Plus for its size... its armament was amazing!
The FW190 A4 was wayyy better with 4 20mm canons, was faster and easier to maintain, so more reliable
@@Chr1ßticalFaster? Hmmm...
Which version?
With or without power boost?
I also like the Stuka ju87
I agree, this is the best aircraft of all time in my opinion.
f-15 has never been destroyed in combat
Messerschmitt 262 made in 1941
That first one was actually a HA 1112 which where licensed built versions of the me 109 for Spain.
If I remember right it was a little more sleek looking
They used this in the movie Dunkirk since they didn't have a real 109.
BF-109G, best fighter to ever exist.
well the 109 has more air to air kills than any fighter in history
This is my favorite aircraft
It was the last model I built, and gave to my dad about 10 years ago. I still have 5 models that he gave me. But can no longer find supplies to finish them and I won't build one without all necessary supplies. Attention to detail!!!
I do agree with the 109 being the most advanced aircraft at the start of WWII. So if it was so in advance of anything else at the time of the Battle of Britain, how did inferior numbers of British aircraft manage to beat the Luftwaffe?
It is not just the weapon that win a battle, but also the tactics
Not enough fuel, Tactics and biggest Problem of all: Hermann Göring
Simple... German fighters during The Battle of Britain were mainly on escort duty to protect Stukas and German bomber formations. By the time they reached their target areas over England they had only mere minutes left for dogfighting due to fuel consumption. The British pilots were well aware of this and used this fact to their advantage. (A fighter trying to break off from a fight due to low fuel is easy prey for an adversary with full tanks!)
Another factor was the brilliant use of ground radar by the British. Large swarms of Spitfires could be dispatched quickly to intercept the bombers and their bomber escorts. This oftentimes meant the 109s were outnumbered 3 to 1, 4 to 1, etc. Also... when a British pilot was shot down during the Battle of Britain? If not injured he would be returned to his airfield quickly. German pilots on the other hand were in for POW status.
The Bf109 was constantly being improved throughout the war... it was always in the fight.
they were heavily assited with radar systems making it more difficult for the bf-109 with it's maneuver ability being really bad
That’s a great short and sweet video. Deserves way more views, especially covering the best fighter of WWII.
One question I almost had was whether or not that boxy canopy created a drag problem for the plane
I always wondered about the square cockpit??
I can agree the bf 109 is a very good fighter but I think the p51 the 2 best fighter in WW2 Japanese zero is third
Such an attractive plane
Best fighter in history but goes on to state that the Spitfire was more than equal.
I always wondered why an aircraft that is not easy to fly, nasty at take-off and landing, not really sturdy, with a cockpit waaaay too cramped and with a poor sight for the pilot, was so incredibly successful.
What color is your Messerschmidt?
Wasn't it the FW190 from Focke Wulf?
Yes, he is speaking about bf 109
You could argue that the K4 versions at the end equalised between spits and 109's. If the war had continued for a few months, the Americans would have brought in their p51 h5's in though, and they would have really bested the 109's
Depends of the conditions
That accent makes it scary 💪
Please can anybody tell me from what movies are those footage ? Please
Initially yes but 35,000 airframes means a high loss rate which translates to an inferior design,
But if you lose pretty much all your airframes are going to be destroyed, think, there are only a dozen (roughly) Tiger tanks still in existence (only one that moves), but there are dozens of Sherman’s that still run
P-47
P51 was better
@@shaggygabe728obviusly
It was actually the il 2 that holds the lace for second most produced in history. Bf109 is in third.
Russia changed (lied about?) their WW2 production numbers in the 1970s... because of this many historians still believe the 109 is truly most produced fighter of all time.
Hell yeah nice🎉
Its about who won the most dogfights per # of planes
But good thing that wara are not won in the air its the soldiers that win wars
Spitfire.
Production numbers alone do not sihnify the most advanced fighter in WWII. Germany did not produce many variations of fighters due to the head of the RLM not approving others to avoid spreading the abailable resources thin and to avoid the ire of Hitler and Goering. The Me262 could be theost advanced fighter of the war with limited numbers being produced.
Hmm I Think It Was Messechmitts Me 262
Well that’d be more of a false statement, the me-262 was advanced but it was made way too late in the war and even then it was still more problematic and still got destroyed due to pilot decisions
Kannst ruhig deutsch reden 😂
Sänk ju
Over 11,000 lost in accidents. Not sure if that is being considered when naming it the most successful.
15000 confirmed victories.
Der ossie spricht aus stolz
Mit Recht.
And they still got shot down by spitfires.. Even a Me 262 got shot down by a spitfire... Without the spitfires we would most likely be speaking German now 🇬🇧
His voice sounds like Austrians
It had only 900km range compared to the 3300km range of the P51
Because the mustang was built from the start as a bomber escort, the BF-109 was made as an interceptor, like the spitfire. Interceptors don’t need as much range.
@@justacanadianguy07and it's worse than the spitfire, while the bf109 is a great plane, it was much more difficult to fly, over 11000 lost in accidents. Plus in a dogfight most people are taking a spitfire or yak 9 etc
@@marvou6811I seen a documentary about the battle of Britain, they interviewed a few of the 109 pilots, one said" you could get behind the spitfire, give him every bullet you had and still not hit that "little bastard "!!!
Yea great plane but many pilot died after take off 💀 its difficult to fly a bf 109
Wow totally wrong...this was poorly researched. Unsubscribed
Even the spitfire mk 1 a could take down a bf 109
This is a classic CZcams vid where the 'best' of a aircraft is judged by skimming a WW2 aircraft book and misunderstanding the wider context of a 6 year war that went from biplanes to jets.
The job of a fighter is to gain air superiority so that it can be exploited. The 109 failed to do this over Europe. The reasons don't matter. Kill ratios or whatever other metrics are irrelevant. Ergo the 109 is not the best fighter. The P-51 was.
Before P-51 came along, Bf 109 failed to secure air superiority against the Spitfire. Three times so, in fact:
- 1940 - the battle of Britain
- 1942 - the siege of Malta
- 1942 - North Africa
Sure the latter 2 were going on before Spitfires specifically arrived, yet their arrival quite often marked steady regaining of air superiority by the Allies.
@@MDzmitryyes but until we got the Merlin all American planes were terribly underpowered
ich höre doch raus das du deutscher bist dann rede doch deutsch xD
Wait till this propaganda guzzler finds out the “most successful aircraft in history” was actually 2-3 different planes that went under the same got dalmned name. The Bf 109 E, and Bf 109 F ALONE were essentially two different aircraft… And that every record the 109 had was just because the Germans were insistent on calling different things, the SAME THING.
Imagine if the Yak 1, Yak 3, Yak 7, Yak 9 all went by “Yak 1” 😂. They’d hold the REAL RECORDS. Imagine if the Lagg 1, Lagg 3, La 5, La 7 just went by Lagg 1. The LIST GOES ON. The 109 was not the most advanced plane especially by 1940-41. It was vastly out classed by its own homeland designs like the Fw 190, and Ta 152. But most of all we’re outclassed by the Griffon Spitfire, LF spitfires, Thunderbolts, Lightning’s, and Mustangs. The 109 was simply OUTDATED.
THE SPITFIRE is better than the bf109!!!
Still lost to the Spitfire so...
Skill issues 💀
The spitfire was just a naturally hard target
No no no no!!!!!
Until it met the F4U -Corsair
The Corsair was a beast,
