- In this video we show you how to remove the transmission from an 05 F150. We couldn't get the converter bolts to come loose because whoever worked on this transmission before put them in way too tight. This video is for any 2 wheel drive Ford F150 from 2004 to 2008. Thanks for watching!

Finally a real no edited video of what really happens the struggles when doing mechanics thank you guys
Yeah this channel is about as real as it gets lol. Thanks for watching!
I like how you kept your composure the whole time. I'm going to be dropping my 05 trans as soon as this rain stops here in the swamps of AZ. I know I'll be cussing alot and loosing my cool.
How did that work out for you because I might have to change my 05
@@inthepote I got the rebuilt trans in a few days ago. I found out the real problem was the transfer case. So now everything is redone
@In The Pote’ w/ Big Homie it's helps to get the truck up as high as you can off the ground. Get alot of brake kleen and rubber gloves
Thank you for taking the time to show all the frustrating/decision points along the way. This video was very helpful as I take the transmission out of my '97 F150 4x4.
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked the video!
Thanks for the video. Trying to help my friend put a junkyard transmission in tomorrow. I love the Chevy references. Working on anything in this truck is just way harder then it needs to be. My 04 2500hd is older and has less problems ;)
Glad you liked the video! Thanks for watching!
This video is very informative and i appreciate your work. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Good video 👍 buddy it was extremely helpful I am currently doing a transmission install on a Ford F-150 the best way I found to put and install the transmission is to use a come along
Dude this is awesome and very detailed. I have to replace my tranny on a 205k mile '07 this spring. This video will save me alot of headache!
Thanks for watching! Glad my video will help you out!
Hands down best camera and mechanical work considering the engineering lol I wanna see it all put back together!!
I sure do appreciate that! This was my dads truck, he drove it around for a while after this then he traded it in.
Thanks for watching!
Great vid!! Thank you for showing the struggle!
Excellent video. Pulled mine from 2005 f150. I was able to leave my exhaust on, truck was on handstands.
It's not too bad.
Thank god, I’m under my 04 RIGHT NOW 😂 my exhaust is so caked in dirt and those corroded as bolts are so tight I can’t break them glad I can skip this step
Awesome job guys. Thanks for the video. Hell of a mess
Thanks for watching!
Great video I have an 07… transmission fluid is burnt and I want to take the transmission out myself so this video was great for me. Also you should’ve drained the fluid before starting.
The fluid never had to come out, we just changed the front and rear seal.
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked the video!
Thanks a lot! Best video yet and I been working on taking my 1996 Lincoln transmission for two days. No idea what I'm doing but close to having it out. Wished I'd found this before I started. I expect to be driving tomorrow. Thank you fellas and God bless.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the support! I appreciate it!
I used the bolts to suck it on. Converter won't turn. Going to have to drop it and reseat it. Hope i did not mess anything up. I read the transpump might need to be replaced now. I sure hope not. Do you have any advice on the situation?
@@thankyouJESUSkingofkings
Always seat the converter snug by hand before putting the bolts in.
Had to drop the Transmission twice. Third time I got it. Finished up around 3am. Runs good!
GOOD VID GOOD OLD REAL LIFE PROBS THANKS FOR THIS
Thanks for watching!
2003 f150 how to lower rear of transmission to remove top 2 bell housing bolts i have lowered jack under tranny pan but tranny doesn;t want to go down GOOD VID THANX!
Thanks a lot! for taking the time Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Where does that second clip plug into at 24:00? The one that connects to the other on the goes into the trans. Or does it clip into anything at all? Been try to find out where it goes forever now and I’d really appreciate some help
Nice video. The damn birds in the background must have been like Chinese water torture 😅
Glad you liked the video! And after a while we kinda tune out the birds. 🤣
OEM install on the assembly line, the engine/transmission is on the frame before the cab. It went in from above.
Some shops will crane the cab off to get at it.
Yep!
very helpful thank you guys
Thanks for watching!
Amazing. Thanks!
Can’t get my top bolts to line back up but everything else it lined up perfectly what could be the problem
i have a rear freeze plug i gotta get too. thank you for the video
Hopefully my video helps you! Thanks for watching!
One of the first steps remove the transmission pan and drain the fluid. Amatuer hour is over.
This transmission was only getting removed to replace the front and rear seals, no reason to drain the fluid for that. Also, if you're just swapping transmissions, there's no reason to drain the fluid.
Also there are several locations you can access the torque converter there is a rubber plug that will pop out on the driver side of the bellhousing it is also accessible from the very bottom via dust cover with the proper tools use a six-point never 12 and you will not have any issue
Correct! Thanks for watching!
theres an access panel on the drivers side to remove the torque converter nuts
Thanks!
Is this the same Tran in a 2007 Lincoln navigator?
A master mechanic awesome 👏
Glad you liked the video! Thanks for watching!
How is the trans dipstick mounted on a 08
Some heat on those drive shaft bolts will make the thread locker soft and they'll come out much easier. Just don't over do it and melt the pinion seal
Yes!
How do I access the flex plate to torque converter nuts
No need to pull the exhaust, and the shift linkage comes off with just a simple screw driver to pop the clip up.
Are the bell housing or torque converter bolts special or will a regular socket set work
@@FreeStuffPlease 9/16
I'm fond of ratchet strap across so the drive shaft doesn't fall on your face.
I also get paranoid about jack stands and will slide concrete block and 2X under the pumpkin so it can't fall far if the stands fail, like Harbor Freight stands were doing to people.
We've had some close calls but never had anything fall off anything.
light work 🥴🤣jk ,,,, good vid thank you !
Thanks for watching!
The access for the torque convertor nuts is on the drivers side its a rubber or plastic cover just pop it open
Good job
Thanks for watching!
Love it
My carrier bearing is shot out. Recon it's one of them unrepairable dudes. Any suggestions? Kinda on a budget.
Uhh, anything is repairable, just do a little research and find some videos on it. Worse case get a whole driveshaft, they're not too expensive.
hey how are you? im trying to lower the trans to get the top mounting bolt out the two bolts that mount the tran to the engine but for some reason the trans won't drop all the way to where the engine oil pan sits on the cross bar .., any tips would be greatly appreciated thank you.... also I plan to loosen all the exhaust hangers im thinking the exhaust is hanging everything up side note im trying to do this without dropping the exhaust thanks again
It's hard to really tell you how to do something without seeing it in person.
@@1018Videoyep for sure. I ended up getting it out it was the top mount bolt right side above the starter that was hiding on me
So what transmission model is it? I have the exact same truck but I'm having trouble figuring out what the transmission is. Some websites say 4r70w. Some say 4r75w, and even others say 4r70e
You'll have to look up your exact truck, the year, engine size and if it's 4x4 or not.
What if truck is in neutral but the drive shaft doesn't spin
Rear wheels on the ground😅😅😅😅
There is a trick to get the converter bolts out. You have to have the right size socket. :)
True! Lol.
It's funny I grew up with fords and I think chevys are complicated to work on
It's all just perspective.
Okay so the trick to getting a socket on the f150 torque converter bolts is to line up the bolt with the bump in the back of the engine oil pan and work your shortest socket and ratchet into the position. It will be a snug fit. Once they are busted loose take the ratchet out and use a open wrench the rest of the way.
You will also need a 12in pipe to put on your ratchet handle so you don't have to struggle.
Thanks for the information!
Nice mess you made, I usually drain the transmission fluid first by dropping the pan on one side and let it run into a catch before I even break the trans from the torque converter.
Messes are fun though.
Is that the only way to drain the trans? Can you not just pull the cooler lines….?
I agree tho draining the fluid should of been the first thing you done . Then you could of left the exhaust on…
@@iaibandway more difficult.
Nice to have that room. And very nice that Ford used those t-bolt clamps there
@@lowbornfabrication yeah ended pulling the pan. Luckily they got those slick reusable gaskets… neato
Still would be nice of them to put a drain plug like on the 4r100s tho 🤷♂️
how did you take off the torque converter nuts off if they were stripped?
That I'm not sure about.
Where is your shop ?
On a 4x4. Is it much harder?
Just have to remove the transfer-case from the back of the transmission and the front drive-shaft too. On top of all the steps we did here for the 2 wheel drive version.
Pull battery cables at the battery before going after the starter.
Yeah we cut a few corners sometimes lol.
What a pain in my you know what I did this today and it was just a little easier than I just washed it here. I pity you guys
Working on stuff can sometimes be pretty rough!
Hey guys fyi the torque converter bolts are accessible from front drivers side round rubber panel.next time no more trans lake under truck.lol
Thanks for the info! And thanks for watching!
Mike Hanion hey man help lol I’m changing flywheel
Dude wrong size socket other than that great vid
It happens, lol.
So where’s the panel at on driver side so I don’t lose all my fluid any videos tag me in
I don't even remember, hopefully you found it.
Damn that was huge mess! I couldn’t even pay attention to the rest of the video after seeing that big puddle. Why did u not drain the transmission fluid dude first thing before u started
Port hole on the driver side the motor to get to the bell housing bolts
Thanks!
How about one with a solid crossmember more specifically the single Bolt in front that seems to be locked in place buy something
I'm not sure to be honest.
I managed to get them out they was just seized in place
WHAT MOTOR IS IT???? 4.6 or 5.4???? Please state in video title Please.
This was a 4.6, but it doesn't matter, they're exactly the same.
Did you have to actually drop the exhaust to take out the transmission?
No, not if you have two people.
It depends really.
Why does the starter need to be removed?
It should be in the video. I just hold the camera lol but I believe it's to access certain bolts or to move it out of the way.
It is bolted to the transmission always. 😁
@@alainmarcoux4156 Thanks 😊 I asked the question 11 months ago. Past all that now. 😂 Have a great weekend 👍
What size were the torque converter nuts?
That I do not remember, lol.
didn't see the torx converter bolts removed
Hmm I don't remember exactly what all is in this video lol. Thanks for watching though!
Why’s the camera guy not grabbing the tools
Because I'm the camera guy, camera guy only does work with the camera, lol. Can't make a good video if I'm always handing tools out. I gotta focus on the camera.
1018 Video
You must step up your camera game with a tripod
I like the viewer to feel like they're there, with all the movement of the camera and close angles and stuff, just a camera sitting there is boring.
1018 Video
:)
Starter taking a looongbtime
For sure. 🤣
Good fucking video
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked the video!
You should have unbolted the converter and not left it on the flex plate. There is a way to unbolt it and you will have too to go back in with it. I hope you didn't reuse the converter.
Reused the converter, truck still runs and drives just fine to this day.
@@1018Video you lucky son of a gun. Lol

All we did was replace the front and rear seals cause it leaked.
Where part 2
There is no part 2.

I liked your video,but I have one I dislike...
The ATF poured into the ground...
Just onto the shop floor, not the ground.
@@1018Video Lol..👍
Not bad..
I'm mechanic too...
The torque converter must be included when pulling the transmission...😃
I agree fords are a pain to work on but I keep on ending up with them coming from a stupid ford family
That bird!!!
Lol.
And this channel was actually going somewhere smh don’t upload anymore the 2.0 Camaro is why I subscribed
Sorry about that, I don't know how many of my videos you watch, but in a previous video we explain about how the 2.0 Camaro got wrecked and that we're going to get another shop car going soon.
1018 Video I saw and you guys got a cavalier I wish it was another cool car

In the next week or 2 we're buying a 2019 Camaro SS with the 10 speed automatic transmission. Stay tuned to see some videos of that car, mods and racing.
Your having such a problem because you don't like Ford funny
We don't like anything that is hard to work on lol.
