    Franco Harris started the season strong but boy, he really tailed off at the end, he was wore out. The next season he played for Seattle and lasted for a couple 3 games and then he retired. Very sad how he ended.

    I always wanted to see a Cliff Stoudt Vs Jack Thompson game (sarcasm)... still glad you posted this and I am watching it because I love to study the game. I actually appreciate the chance to see 2 QBs I never studied before but I have seen them both play in other games but never took time to study the game. Great video, thanks for posting

    Steeler fans, go look at the 1983 draft and the players they picked in each round, and then look at the players they passed on in the same round.
    I was just goofing around up one day reading the 83 draft rounds and I couldn't believe the talent the Steelers let go. If they would have picked about 6 or 7 guys they would have been set for the next 10 years.
    Instead of the dreck that they picked.

    Just skimming around at the Week 9 1983 schedule and half the games (like this one) are NFC vs AFC teams, including 4 out of the 5 AFC East teams playing all 4 NFC West teams and the Colts playing in Philly (those teams had the last place schedule based on their 1982 records), very odd. The whole last place schedule thing which existed in the NFL from 1978-94 was totally unfair to the 2 divisions who only had 4 teams in them at that time, the AFC Central & NFC West. Case in point is the Houston Oilers who had the worst record in the NFL in 83 but schedule wise got no break the next year, same thing with the Saints in 1980 when they were 1-15.

    • @fjr70ify
      @fjr70ify Před 3 lety

      100% Correct - If you were a last place team in a 5 team division, you really had a last place schedule. 1991 Broncos for example - played the '90 last place Vikings and Cardinals from the NFC and also played the lowly '90 Patriots twice...instead of ATL, NO (both playoff teams in '91), SF, and the Rams. Denver went from 5-11 in 1990 to 12-4 in 1991...the schedule helped a lot.

    Should've drafted Marino

    • @d0nKsTaH
      @d0nKsTaH Před 3 lety +1

      Have you taken a look at the 1983 draft?
      You should google it and find the wiki on it that shows each round.
      Not only could the Steelers taken Marino... but Marino's favorite target Clayton too (8th round)
      Instead, Pitt took receivers; Capers, Skansi, Garrity, and two others who I had never heard of.
      They averaged 2 years playing time. It was the worst draft in Pittsburgh history.
      In fact, I don't think ANYONE on that draft was on the Steelers 3 years later.
      Just think.. had Pitt taken Marino... Rivera doesn't get paralyzed because he goes somewhere else.
      Sad.
      It's shocking the players Pittsburgh passed on that was in a logical order. They could have gotten Richard Dent among several other very good defensive linemen.
      The final round... they could have gotten Karl Mecklenburg (who went to Denver).
      Pittsburgh could have taken Mark Clayton in round 8... 2 picks before Miami ended up getting him for real.
      From round 2 to 7... you should see the names that would have worked wonders.
      Steelers would have gone to at least 2-3 Super Bowls before Noll retired.

      @rivercap 1986 • Had Noll knew of the severity of Terry Bradshaw's elbow injury, he would have. Noll wanted to rebuild his defense, starting with his defensive line with the selection of Gabriel Rivera. The rookie had played very well until his injury during the week leading up to the Seattle game

    • @rivercap1986
      @rivercap1986 Před 3 lety +1

      You could've had lipps in 84 and rice in 85
      Plus with stallworth equals more yardage and pro bowls
      Stallworth would've retired with better numbers and rice would've taken his place
      We definitely would've won more division titles, but superbowls I don't know
      We still needed a running game and a decent defensive line

    • @d0nKsTaH
      @d0nKsTaH Před 3 lety

      @@rivercap1986 Actually Rice was in 86... But Anthony Carter was in 83 with Clayton and Marino. He was drafted after Skansi, Capers, and Garrity.
      Granted he never won a Super bowl...
      Imagine Anthony Carter, Mark CLayton and John Stallworth in the '83 season.
      John may still get hurt and not finish the year... that meant Sweeney would have been the starter with a rotation of Clayton and Carter.
      With Malone throwing (at first) ... then Marino throwing to them during the course of that same schedule which saw Pittsburgh go 9-2 through 11 games.
      I just saw some of those games on YT here... including the strange opening day loss to Denver 14-10. Steelers had 7 turnovers in that game.
      They'd have 7 more in a 28-23 loss to New England.
      Both games are on YT... both games losses are directly on Stoudt... (who not only tossed piles of iNT's but fumbled as well).
      Swap out with either Malone OR Marino... and those are wins.
      11-0 ?
      Wow.
      Maybe they also don't loss game #12 vs Minnesota 17-14...
      Scary

    Tampa Bay gave away their #1 pick in the 1984 draft for the "Throwin Samoan". Had the Bucs held on to it, they could have had Steve Young two years earlier. Then again, Hugh Culverhouse was a cheap asshole and he certainly would not have matched the Express' offer.
    Cincinnati ended up trading that pick to New England, and the Patriots drafted Irving Fryar.

      By 1983,Chuck Noll had amassed such pull in the Steelers organization after four SB wins,he could and likely did prevent Dan Rooney from
      drafting the home town favorite and former Pitt Panther,Dan Marino,who was essentially,the Joe Namath of the 1980's. A big,charismatic,
      chaming, Pennslyvania kid with a rocket arm. Unlike Don Shula,who changed his whole approach to football and dumped the power running game,
      in favor of Marine throwing bombs,Noll would have tried to break Marino to his will,the way he did Terry Bradshaw.
      Had Marino been a Los Angeles Raider.And been paired with Marcus Allen in the backfield, the Raiders would have won about 3 Super Bowls
      after moving to LA vs one.
