Flowtoys Connect App Unboxing and First Impressions!

- Last year Flowtoys released their long-awaited Connect smartphone app for programming their capsules and Vision props. I've got a project I've been working on that I wanted to program using those capabilities and the folks at Flowtoys were kind enough to send me one of the bridge dongles necessary to program my poi! I decided to document unboxing the bridge, learning how to use the app, and putting together a very crude first program using the app's capabilities. Be on the lookout for a much more sophisticated version of this program and performance to come in the next couple months!

We bought the bridge at Christmas along with staffs and led pins and are just setting the bridge up now. Yes we let it sit on the shelf for a long while. Thanks for the video because it helped us to set it up easy.
One of these days I would love to get my hands on one of these ad well. I'll probably wait for the design to be optimized a bit, and then I'll go for it
You finally got the bridge! Hurray! Now if Flowtoys can only devote more energy into working out the kinks and streamlining the features. I’ve been using the bridge app for a few months now and am sometimes so frustrated with some of the bugs-shows not saving, edits getting lost, sequences/mode selection timings randomly changing for no reason. I’ve reported some of these bugs through the app, but stopped reporting stuff after never receiving any feedback help. I don’t even get a notification that my bug reporting is even received, let alone read by a real human somewhere. . . . But all that said, some kind of app is better than no app. I was soooooo over all the single-button clicking to switch modes.

I knew this was coming eventually, glad it's finally here in some form. The bugs will get worked out eventually, but to have that much creative control of the lights is pretty awesome.

A desktop counterpart would indeed be super helpful! The phone app is good enough that I can still make it work for this purpose, though.
I just ordered a set of pod poi and the bridge. I have a question. if i dont want to go deep in editing modes, is they a mode that synch to music?
I ask that because i have also a fiber optic hoody from your mind your world and the hoddy can be synche to the music rythm automaticly.
Omg this is so cool thank you for sharing this. I have been thinking about getting the bridge and debating if I should get it now or in 2024. What kind of poi are you doing this with? This review is very beneficial thank you for doing this. I have been wanting to learn how to do trails with led poi. I am definitely interested in seing how this goes with the bridge. Omg the final video of you Flowing came out amazing. You did an awesome job editing it.

Do they have a website version of the app to make it a little easier to edit the shows?
What is the optimal length for contact poi❔ I am going to juggle and the kinds of trics that you normally need contact poi for, I don't want to waste my money so please let me know.
Definitely the previews are Vision-centric. Hopefully future updates can fix that. Page 13 is a total crapshoot because the capsule lights don't have the same options lol gonna have to write those down manually to translate page numbers. Still a really cool app
In my dream world the Capsule 3 will come with app connectivity built in and a usb C port for charging 😇
Does the app have an option to analyse the song and create a program automatically as a foundation rather than starting from scratch? 🤓
If memory serves, Sean and Prisna mentioned that they'll be overhauling their props next year such that they have both bluetooth and radio chips in them so the bridge will be unnecessary. No idea about USB-C.
As for the question about analyzing the song and creating an automatic program. The answer is: kind of. So there is a feature that analyzes music you enter into the app to figure out its tempo and you can add modes that regularly cycle through according to it. The problem is that it assumes the beat is constant for the full length of the song, so if there is any dead space in the intro or outro or the song changes tempo at any point, those mode changes will happen off the beat. I tried this out already with a couple songs and the results were really inconsistent.

The usb C would be nice since my podpoi is the only rechargable thing I carry around that requires its own cable. Phone, laptop, tablet, headphones - everything charges with the same usb c cable already 😊
And for the software, that sounds like a good start at least, bright future ahead I say 🥳
I have found the app is most useful when using flowtoys vision props or to change the brightness on any of flowtoys props.

USB A but the battery pack charges with USB C
Um...the battery pack I have definitely still charges with micro-USB. 🤔
@@DrexFactor Oh you're right it charges with micro-usb, I clearly didn't look very closely. The bridge however is USB A powered
