- Finding a handheld electronic magnifier that can do full page OCR isn't any easy thing to do, but as a person with low vision sometimes it's just nice to be able to sit back and have a document read to you. Even If you do find a handheld that can do full page OCR, chances are that you have to jump through some hoops to make it work...there really hasn't ever been an ideal solution.
That is until now! The Compact 10 HD Speech has a great trick for full page OCR - a second camera that folds out the top of the device and is at the perfect height to capture a full 8.5x11 sheet! It's easy to do and works like a charm. Not only can you fold out the camera to do OCR, but you can also write underneath it, making this the best handheld on the market to write with (that we're aware of at least!).

Compact 10 when in speech mode can you use headphones to be more discrete when travelling
You sure can! It has a 3.5mm port and Bluetooth
Thank you for this review. I am in the market for a portable magnifier with OCR and this one looks really good, probably better than the Zoomax Snow 12. Am I right? I wonder if the real colour is good enough. For example when looking at photographs etc. What do you think about that?
I would say the engineering behind this unit is better than the Snow 12, although this one doesn't have a stand so you can't use it hands-free. The color reproduction is good, I think it would work well for looking at photos.
I actually like the fact there is no stand as the fold out camera arm leaves more space to place for example large book, like an open atlas or photo album. Looks like Compact 10 is a better choice for me. Thanks.
