Having lived through that era, and so much great music, I can tell you that many of us guys pretended that ABBA wasn't hard enough or cool enough or rock enough. Now, in my mid-70s, I'm reliving the ABBA experience. THEY. ARE. BEYOND. ASTOUNDING. Thanks for the reaction.

The Name of the Game is a pure masterpiece. The singing, the melody, the production - so unique, catchy, emotional and groovy at the same time. It was huge back in the days. We need to make it huge again - love it! 🙂

I think this is one of ABBAs most underrated songs. The lead single from the ABBA The Album. It is also 1 of 2 songs that has been sampled with the consent of Benny and Bjorn. it was used by The Fugees - Rumble In The Jungle, the other is Gimme Gimme Gimme used by Madonna on her smash single Hung Up.

the mix between Agnetha and Frida amazing voices, the third voice when they sing together, the background vocals and the music. One of ABBAS best songs. Nice reaction!!

Great song great reaction. Try "if it wasn't for the nights" the live version from Japan is the best and "money money money" the red head Frida sings lead in that. The live version from Japan in that one too is great. They each introduce themselves quickly in the beginning. Nice to hear their speaking voices

When I put Abba "The Album" on my record player for the first time (some time in the 1970's), Take a chance on me was the lead single, but I personally didn't feel it was special. But then the record started playing and I heard the song "Eagle" for the first time and to this day, it's still one of my favourite Abba songs. Then as I got to the end of side 1 of the record, I heard "The name of the game" the first time - loved it, only second to Eagle) and was sad because I never thought it would become a hit - it was very different from all previous Abba songs. To my amazement it became the biggest selling number 1 hit from the album (in South Africa). "Thank you for the music" became the third number one single from the album. Sadly "Eagle" never reached the heights of the other 3 number 1 singles from the album. All in all it was a fantastic album!

      @happyhawaii0711 Před 10 měsíci +1

At least Eagle went to no.6 in Germany and was a big hit here. It was no.1 in Belgium, no.2 in South Africa, no.7 in Switzerland and no.17 in Austria. Not one of their greatest hits, but one of the best.❤

@@happyhawaii0711 You said it right; there are 2 video ABBA chart history - worldwide top t10 singles.
ABBA have 24 top tens in Belgium and Netherland; That's where the most loyal fans were.
Have fun with all kind of good music.

So nice to see you return with more ABBA songs
"The name of the game" (1977)
these is an extraordinary song by ABBA, which has many peculiarities:
    1) I think it's the first in which each of the girls sings a verse as lead voice
    2) the video was recorded at the blonde Agnetha & blonde Björn's home,
because Agnetha was very late in her second pregnancy
(that's why maybe she's sitting and cared for in the picture)
    3) "The name of the game" was released in October 1977,
two month before "ABBA The Album" and the movie "ABBA The Movie"
It was a bold gamble from ABBA, it opened their horizons and spread beyond pop.
I think that "The name of the game" (1977)
have some vibs of influences of BEATLES songs like "Penny Lane" or "Fool on the hill" (1967)
curiosly, "The name of the game" was #1 in UK (4 weeks)
and replaced in the #1 for "Mull of Kintyre" by Paul McCartney (ex-BEATLES member)
    "The name of the game"
is in my opinion a masterpiece
one of the Seven Wonders of ABBA (in chronological order):
    Waterloo
    S.O.S
    Dancing Queen
    The name of the game
    Chiquitita
    The winner takes it all
    Don't shut me down
You have fantastic songs in "The Album" (1977) to react, ABBA's most versatile album:
    "Eagle" almost 6 minutes amazing
Take a chance on me (the banger hit)
"One man one woman" (beauty ballad)
    "Move on" (fantástic chorus)
"Hole in your soul" (powerful rock)
included a mini musical from 1977 Tour:
"Thank you for the music" (ABBA hymn)
    "I wonder" (dramatic ballad)
    "I'm a marionette" (progresive rock)
I hope to see you soon in more ABBA videos
    A big hug from
    Buenos Aires, Argentina 🇦🇷
    South America
PS: at the time of the official video (1977)
the blonde singer Agnetha and the guitarist Björn was married since 1971,
with one child in 1973 and in pregnancy of their second child
(the only official video with Her pregnant)
the brunette singer Frida and the bearded keyboardist Benny was engaged
    and living together since 1969
    and married next year 1978

The Fugees got the authorization from ABBA, to sampled it for their song "Rumble in the jungle" czcams.com/video/Ok6fmRt6MvU/video.html
This song is from their 5th album, 1978, "The Album" (personnal favorite album along with "The Visitors")
You have to react from that album, to the soaring masterpiece 5:52 song "Eagle" (the long version not the edit music video), a prog with metal elements with a fantastic guitar solo at the end
and to "I'm a Marionette" (Dark ABBA, a song about the puppet industry that is the music industry and its traps) there is a really great instrumental part in the middle of the song.
The whole album is top, never desapointed with ABBA ! I advise also to listen to "The Visitors" song, a galactic-electro-indie song and to the Album.

Might I suggest you alternate with lesser known ABBA songs? 8 wold suggest "I am the City" and "Slipping through my fingers". Check CZcams for those with fewer reactions. There are a lot of gems which could have been massive hits but we're kept as album tracks. Welcome to ABBA😊
