  • I've been running a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 for the last month and a bit, begging the question can a classic British bike cope with a classic British winter? It's been a journey, that's for sure so find out what I've been up to and where I've been right here! And in case you missed it the introduction to this long-term test can be found here: • Royal Enfield Intercep...

    If that bike is dirty after winter riding my bikes look horrendous by comparison. Good video and the Interceptor is terrific value for money. Test rode one and was impressed, but touring on tubed tires is a no go for me. Bought a Honda NC-750x, and it’s a do it all bike. All the best!

    Bearing in mind that this has not been a particularly bad winter, riding a bike is all about making a judgement on the day. Being safe is paramount. But joy is addictive
    Really enjoy your reviews. Keep riding

      Amen to that and thanks for the kind words. Hopefully keeping wheels rolling through winter will make the spring and summer ones feel all the more enjoyable!

    Any bike ridden through the winter with salty and mucky roads must be looked after no matter if your paying 5 grand or 25 grand its a must.

    I agree with your comments on the tyres (tipping into corners too much), underwhelming rear suspension and the exhaust note being a bit too well mannered. Fitting Hagon rear shocks, Bridgestone B46s and TEC Canon slip on rear cans rectified all these issues and have transformed the bike. It has made a good bike that much better. Also after polishing the engine cases I applied Waxoil Spray (the lighter one that comes in an aerosol) at the start of winter and it has prevented any of the tarnishing issues and left the finish as slightly mat silver which is similar to how they come new. Engine heat hasn’t affected the Waxoil, and the winter grime washes off easily. Now the finer weather is (hopefully) on its way I will clean off the Waxoil to reveal the previous polished finish. Love the bike. Thanks for your no nonsense review. Stay safe 😊

      Great insight, thanks very much for sharing. What do you need to wash the Waxoil Spray off once you're done, just a regular degreaser of some type?

    • @martinstubbs6382
      @martinstubbs6382 Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yes, a regular degreaser should do the job. I’ll probably get the engine slightly warm to help loosen the Waxoil. I think it would come off with just a good wipe down with a cloth as it doesn’t actually set but a warm engine and degreaser should make it that much easier - we all want an easier life don’t we ? 😎

      @@martinstubbs6382 Absolutely! And thanks, going to give this a try! Your bike sounds absolutely how I'd be looking to upgrade this one were it actually mine as well.

    Hi I am one of those who always wanted the biggest fastest maddest bike on the road but as you get older wiser things change although I have still got one a triumph rocket 3 gt chrome edition for those wild rides now and again but these royal enfields and bsa’s are changing my mind and am thinking about the meteor that is a nice looking bike and the new shotgun a lot cheaper than more popular bikes but I think they are slowly growing and that’s good ride safe take care

    Changed the mirrors Bar end enfield mirrors, mini enfield windshield, enfield touring seat, full sports exhaust system. You need to select the tyres to your conditions, if its raining and weather conditions like in the UK are not great you prob neen a wet weather tyre. The stock pirelli tyre is essentially a dry, tryre they need to heat up to work.

    Thanks again for a very informative vid. I’m hiring an Interceptor later this year and was interested to hear your thoughts. Luckily I’ll be riding the snooker table smooth roads of the Mount Teidi National Park and thought that the Interceptor would be a good compromise between relatively light (ish) weight, power and of course looks.
    Keep the vids coming👍🏍
    P.S. Did you shoot the vid up in the Pennie’s?

      Ah yes, there is an operation out there hiring them out isn’t there. And on dry, smooth roads I think you’ll have an absolute blast. Very envious! Bit different from Saddleworth Moor, which is where I shot this video!

      Agree re Saddleworth. Altho on a late summer’s evening when the mercury reads 20+ degrees, Saddleworth is also fantastic.👍🏍️🌞

    Try experimenting with the tyre pressure when cold and wet, I find dropping a few PSI gives a slightly greater contact patch area and more comfortable ride Dan.

    • @midlifecrisismotorcyclist
      @midlifecrisismotorcyclist  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thanks for that, I did wonder if that might be worth a try. How far down would you think of going?

    • @JW20236
      @JW20236 Před 3 měsíci +2

      A bit late to the comments but you shouldn't drop too much, especially with tubed tyres, . I personally wouldn't go more than a couple of PSI of your normal recommended tyre pressures. Alright for dirt bikes and slow work but fast bends would work against you. The best thing to remedy this is newer, better tyres. The stock tyres are never the best.

    If the gearing is a little short then maybe you should put a sprocket on the front with 1 more tooth.

    The only perfect motorcycle is one on a sales floor or a museum. I have had my Sportster for 25 years. It's rusty and the seat is covered in duct tape. Some parts rusted more than others. I don't polish bikes. They are used for transportation. It took 25 years for rust to go through the fender. I wish all the sheet metal was stainless steel. Alloy tank looks great when polished. Mild steel is a cheaper than stainless steel or alloy. People should think about what is good for the longevity your motorcycle 🏍️. All my motorcycles are like my dogs they have a forever home 🏠. All of my motorcycles l have had for decades. None are really valuable so I don't think of them as a pile of money 💰. They are part of who I am.
