Chia seeds are also great at keeping dehydration at bay because it holds so much liquid. However, if you eat dry chia seeds, without giving them any liquid to absorb before ingesting them, they'll absorb the water within your system and potentially cause a blockage.

I can’t imagine anyone eating the volume of chia seeds that could possibly cause issues unless one is allergic to it. For example, I have a sensitivity to oats and some other grains. But doctors and many diets include oatmeal in the diet, which gives me terrible cramps…like ER level pain. So…I don’t eat oatmeal. But no one has ever warned me about that. The minimal amount of chia seeds I include in my diet doesn’t bother me at all…so I will eat it!

Another product that causes serious problems is activated charcoal. I had an open cut on my hand. I was using an activated charcoal mask; while applying it to my face, some of it got into the cut on my hand. Within 3 minutes, I started feeling lightheaded , dizzying couldn't catch my breath. Lucky my friend was there to call the ambulance when I passed out. They did tests at the hospital and told me that any type of charcoal that gets into the body( the cut) caused my blood pressure to drop so low that I nearly died. Two products I will never use are charcoal and chia seeds which cause bowel obstructions. These products can have deadly side effects

I have just got out of hospital after suffering a blocked bowel they said caused from adhesions from an operation I had fifteen years ago. This has not happened before but is it coincidence I had eaten a breakfast with one tablespoon chia seeds one tablespoon flaxseeds, a handful of nuts with a tablespoon of oats with skimmed milk. Not enough milk and it turned into a dry mass, I was in a hurry and ate it quickly without adding more milk. I wonder now could this have caused my small intestines to block near the adhesions or was it just coincidence ?

Results are a sweet kefir chia pudding. They thicken up. The bacteria in the kefir eat up the honey. And actually start eating the berries. It's absolutley delicious. Just had blood work done and all great. My wife suggested chia seeds because she didn't think I was getting enough fiber. Within a couple days I began doing number 2 every day instead of every other day and began to bleed a little bit. Finally, because the bleeding became more frequent, we cut the amount to 1/3. The bleeding was off and on for the next few days so I stopped altogether. Now, several weeks later, I'm back to every other day, but the bleeding is essentially every other time.
I am nearly convinced that this is a side effect having abruptly begun taking too much fiber all of a sudden or it is a side effect of the chia seeds, as I had just gotten back extensive blood work only days prior to the chia seeds and bleeding. I'm waiting to see if the bleeding stops before notifying the VA clinic. I'll be 64 in a couple weeks.

Thank you. Good to know! I personally eat chia pudding made with coconut milk every morning, topped up with strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries and a dollop of Greek yogurt and have done this now for a couple of months. I think what is of key importance is not to have too much. I eat only 15mg a day. I do feel comfortably satiated following my breakfast and am not hungry until late afternoon. I am fortunate to be able to eat this as I do feel it helps me nutritionally. However we know that some will be allergic to them just as I may be allergic to something others aren't. Also my daughter has been making overnight oats for herself on work mornings and her recipe calls for only 1tsp of chia. This is due to the fact you would be overdoing the fibre which may be bad for you. PS I weighed this week and although was not on any kind of diet except the carbaholic one (consumed cake twice, chips, biscuits, wine, mashed potatoes, cheesecake...I know terrible right?)...I lost 6lbs! I was flabbergasted tbh. So this week I am consciously and mindfully eating less carbs to see if weight continues to drop. The only thing I've done in that week is have chia porridge every single day. Hmmm 🤔

Of course you replied what you did, once again to a lack of understanding. There are plenty of things that are so called healthy for many..... But not for all people. Just like there are natural blood thinners, garlic & many other things. But people love blurting out in half understanding. So there are factors involved when giving rounded input. So for people who may have low blood pressure already, then chia lowers it more. Have fun in your half-witted mocking!

Chia Seeds ARE good for health and help in fat loss by helping you feel satiated or full for longer period of time. However, A few people may react to the high fiber and high lectin content. So watch out for that. TIPS ON HOW TO ADD CHIA TO YOUR DIET :
    1) Do not eat them dry, always pre-soak for 3-4 hrs and take with lots of liquids.
    2) Start small with maybe half a tsp, and increase gradually if required.
    3) For those who don't react well to chia, basil seeds are a great alternative. Basil seeds do not have lectins.

Hey there! Some people can react with digestive distress on eating chia due to it's high lectin content. Chia is considered to be useful for weight loss because of the sense of "fullness" it brings, keeping away food cravings. If chia is not for you, you can still achieve the same with other veggie foods such as a sprout salad or a lettuce-bell pepper salad etc. I would also suggest going on a high-protein diet. I spent $10 on Chia Seeds today because another Medical Doctor on YT says how great they are for heart health etc but I’m a single Mom with special needs child. After watching this I’m throwing the CS in the trash I can’t take a chance of choking or having a medical event just to try to get something that is supposed to be good for my health. I ate a banana instead. Also I ate 2-3 tiny seeds that had soaked in olive oil not water and they were still hard before I saw the video which is scary but I’m sure that 2 or 3 single seeds won’t cause a problem I’m just afraid of using them. Also it’s alarming that they cause BP to drop.

I put a tablespoon of chia seeds in a large glass of cool water and let them absorb the water stirring periodically to break up the glutinous clumps that form. I do this several hours before consuming them. The result is a glass of ‘thickened water’ that I drink with my evening meal to assist the feeling of fullness. It is very bland (no flavour), gentle on the stomach and very effective to assist bowel habits. Also, have your mother drink plenty of water which is even more important with severe constipation.

Typically chia is put in room temp water because it will congeal too quickly in cold water. Making a chia seed gel with 1/3 cup chia seed in 2 cups water. Make certain that you mix it during the 10 minutes that it is congealing on the counter--or it will clump up. Put it in an airtight container and have your mom eat a teaspoon a couple of times a day. She can work up to a tablespoon a couple of times a day. Believe me, it works. No side effects and no pharmaceuticals. Consume this within 7 days and repeat the process.

I hope you are not taking it now. Also could you be taking too much? Stop now and try again after a few weeks in smaller quantity. Remember its not for everybody.

It won't cure PCOS but can help with the pain because it's antiinflammatory.
