  • 7 BIGGEST Underwater Mysteries
    From an underwater stonehenge to a picture of a mastadon on a rock to magnetic anomolies in a strange lake, these are the 7 biggest underwater mysteries will still don't understand.
    Narration provided by JaM Advertising New Mexico www.tasteofjam.com
    Ivan Terence Sanderson was a Scottish biologist who first coined the term "Vile Vortex" to describe areas of unusual phenomena found around the world. He claimed there were twelve such areas, and barring the few on land in Asia, Africa and Antarctica; most of these areas can be found out at sea, with the most famous being - the Bermuda Triangle.
    Right now the only people playing "hide the sub" should be Jared from Subway's cellmates, but in 1968 someone or something caused not one, not two, but four submarines to randomly disappear around the world.
    Stonehenge is one of the most famous historical monuments in the world, but it is far from the only random arrangement of old-timey stones humanity has uncovered. We've seen similar sites across Europe, Asia, Africa and America, but none of these were ever discovered underwater.
    The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration constantly monitor the ocean for unique sounds emanating from the ocean. They pick up all sorts of strange and weird noises every day, yet whilst most can be explained, the origin of some has never been determined.
    With a name like that you know this thing isn't gonna be small. Leptocephalus Giganteus is an eel species of which only two have ever been observed, and on both occasions they were undeveloped larvae. The first sighting was in 1930 off the coast of South Africa, when Danish scientist Anton Brunn captured a 6ft specimen. He recognised it as the larvae of a Leptocephalus, who are typically around one thirtieth of the adult's size, which means if fully matured it could have grown to over 180ft.
    There are countless examples of marine biologists estimating the size of an ocean dwelling creature only to encounter one far larger than anyone thought possible. One such event occurred in Japan's Suruga Bay, where Japanese scientists detected a huge 30ft shark, leading some to wonder whether the prehistoric Megalodon, which measured up to 59 feet, could still be lurking somewhere at the bottom of the ocean today.
    Southern Siberia's Lake Baikal is the largest freshwater lake in the world, and not only is it incredibly ancient, clocking in at 25-30 million years old, but the lake and surrounding area also contains a rich biodiversity of over 1000 plant species and 2500 animal species, of which 80% exist nowhere else in the world.

    • @sern.21
      @sern.21 Před 8 lety +8

      Why does it have to be mermaids? Why is it so hard for us to think outside the box? I'm not saying I know it all, or anything. But really, there are so many alternative possibilities out there and we get bent out of shape because of a _single_ idea or possibility. It's insanely close minded.
      Think about what our future tech could or would look like. Are we really going to continue using bulky oxygen tanks, tubes, and giant flippers into the future? I think not. In fact such technology in our not too distant future could be so integrated into our physical form as to be almost imperceivable, at least at a passing glance.
      And once again, that's just one potential explanation as to how such a story could be plausible.

    • @JacobEllinger
      @JacobEllinger Před 8 lety +2

      Sern well haha I don't believe in mermaids so I just assumed it was angels, most people would say that is just as crazy but I'm a Believer in Jesus so for me it's just as possible as your theory Thanks for the feedback. .

      There would be disturbances in and around the area. Typically atoms, photons, electrons, neutrons would behave differently, light would be distorted, waves of radiation, microwaves and electromagnetic waves. Any kind of matter would be sucked in, not just planes and ships. All these things and many more would be tested in that area and at least one of those things would behave differently in the presence of dimensional portals. An incredible amount of power would be used to make such a portal too. Probably nothing less than the power of a black hole and if that was the case, the Earth.. No, the solar system would be non existent if such a thing with that power did exist here. It's a cool theory, very interesting but such a thing just wouldn't exist on this planet without us knowing about it.

    From a scientific standpoint; Lake Baikal is very unique and interesting... However it is likely sensationalized and slightly misrepresented due to it being a tourist attraction. It is probably subject to a *confirmation bias*- just like the Bermuda triangle. For instance, authorities will be quick to report all the boats that do seemingly "disappear," without considering all the hundreds or thousands of boats that have crossed the lake successfully over the centuries. Furthermore, the fact that it is an ancient, freshwater lake that straddles a tectonic rift zone, could explain why it has a prominent *magnetic field*. This reservoir of electrical potential and energy could also explain the lights, folklore and the petroglyphs. The petroglyphs simply reflect the cultural *interpretations* of the causes of the phenomena by the existing inhabitants in that time period. It is a similar phenomena that causes *"Earthquake lights"* and the now renowned *"Hessdalen lights"* of Norway. It is possible that Baikal- in a similar fashion to the Hessdalen valley- contains a sulfurous layer, in particular sulfate anions (negatively charged ions), metallic cations (positively charged ions) and other necessary geological requirements assembled in such a rare way to act as a sort of *"Natural battery."* Basically a balanced geologic mixture that produces electric currents that could be conducted through the water and generate a spectacular light show under specific conditions. Lastly, many of the reported vivid apparitions on the lake's surface could be a very prominent type of mirage called *"Fata Morgana."* This could occur in very specific atmospheric conditions where layers of air- namely warm air of the atmosphere and the cold, frozen air surrounding the lake- to interact to bend and refract light in such a way so as to generate the mysterious floating images on the lake's surface. *Disclaimer: I will admit that while some of the occurrences of Lake Baikal can be explained naturally, it does not negate the possibility that there may still be supernatural forces at work here.* :)
