DOES SIZE MATTER? | Fly Fishing on a Small Oregon Creek for Wild Cutthroat Trout

- In this video, I ponder the age old question, Does Size Matter?
This was based on sitting and daydreaming of dry fly fishing and my love of small stream fishing. I grew up fishing small water for small native trout and my heart is always in search of that type of fishing, especially as spring starts to ramp up. I know that many people are looking to catch the big fish on big water with big flies which I also very much enjoy but it's not always the main objective of my fishing adventures.
Hopefully this is something that resonates with some folks and maybe you can relate or maybe you have asked yourself Does Size Matter? What are you looking for on a fishing trip?

What a beautiful place full of gems!
love it all
Thank you for sharing!
"...so I went fishing" - great line. I love going to little streams like that when the weather has most people indoors. Great video and truly beautiful shots of our soggy part of the country!
Thanks man! Often times I feel myself being reminded that it pays to be hardy sometimes.
Greetings! Long time watcher, first time commenter here.....
I can totally relate to this video. I like to fish the usual bigger rivers like the Deschutes, but I spend many a day during the season fishing a particular small creek in my area and I love it! Use my 3WT and usually any dry fly will work. Hardly ever catch anything larger than 6 or 7 inches (with an occasional 9 or10), but it's my Zen place. The sound of the creek, the solitude, the occasional wildlife and knowing that I'm in a special place (for me) makes a great day!
Love watching your vids! Keep it up!
Thanks for the watching! I’m right there with you on all of this. I have a 1wt that I like to bring to some of these creeks and it’s almost too much fun to fish it. Thanks for dropping by, cheers!
That's what I'm talking about! So RAD!!! Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Excellent bud! And I also like the new branding.
Thanks man!
Love it. Really dig the new logo, too.
Thank you! I'm going to put together T-shirts and stickers with that logo soon!
Good one! This episode really demonstrated how "wood is good" - especially for cutthroat I think. That particular stream could use a lot more of it I think.
Thank you and totally agree!
I love fishing mountain creeks for little fellers. To me, they are just as much fun to catch on a dry fly as their big brothers and sisters in a river on nymphs or streamers.
Couldn’t agree more. Also on lighter weight gear. I love both, but I think that’s my point. Why not embrace both types of fishing?
@@prolificnorthwest Agreed. I think you meant "both kinds." I might add "all kinds." If it involves a fly rod, I will have a go at it!
@@daveschlom4033 exactly!
My son and I fished that creek recently, we didn't see any. I am happy to know there's some cutthroat in there. It's a beautiful spot just to hike up the creek. There is a similar creek in forest park that's closed to fishing . it has some decent size trout, I like to throw them ants and bugs just to watch them eat in a non fishing context.
I know the creek you are talking about. I used to throw huckleberries in some of the deeper pools and watch the cutthroat gobble them up. Pretty cool!
What are your thoughts on Tenkara? Looks perfect for it.
I have only tried it a few times and thought it was pretty fun. It took a little getting used to, but I enjoyed it. I agree, this type of water is perfect for it
