  • From a very early age, David was obsessed with football. He wanted to be a professional footballer. He had the skills and passion to make it happen. One thing stood in his way. Dad! His father was vehemently opposed to his football pursuits. This started a string of events that led to a toxic relationship with his father and extreme rebellion on his part that opened the door to gang life.
Watch David Etale’s story as he narrates how a difference of opinion with his dad saw him almost lose his life as a criminal; save his life by joining the British Army; almost dying in Afghanistan when he drove over an IED and how he is fighting the mental anguish from all the trauma.

This is by far the episode that I have experienced all kinds of emotions. So deep. Exciting. Traumatizing. Inspiring.
    From a near-death experience, attempted suicide, PTSD...omg
I hope men watching this can learn to speak up and not ‘man up’. Mental health is very important.

David; so sorry about this experience. My nephew was in the British Army as well, and he attests to the brutal winters and the training and the experience in Afghanistan. All of this just confirms that war is stupid and should never happen. Whether it is our young people killing each other in a senseless war or countries fighting war on an international level. It is all senseless. Despite loosing your leg, take comfort in the fact that you are alive. Don't blame yourself for the past. Blessings to you and yours.

Yaani the foot we knew as “Davy’s lethal left” is what was amputated. I can see why you wanted it saved. In another life I’m sure you’d have been a Salah or Mane 👊🏾
