    Ultra by Depeche Mode is definitely one to check out to see where Chino got a lot of inspiration for his moodier sounds. It flows like water while still being very dark and brooding.

    So glad you gave this a shot! In my case, Crosses is what actually led me to Deftones (and not the other way around) and I wish people were more aware of this side project by Chino and his fellow band members. 'Telepathy' still gives me the chills, but the album is interesting all the way through.

    I'm so happy you liked this album! Technically this is a combination of three EPs. Or rather two and then the third was never released and instead the band released the songs along with the other EPs as a full length album. This was one of those that just has great memories of late high school and early college attached to it as well as being a fun album. Spooky, poppy, electronic vibes. The Epilogue, Bitches Brew, and Option are some of my favourite all time songs. I even have a lyric from Telepathy tattooed on me.

    That smile at 12:40 almost made me cry, it was the exact same reaction I had when I listened to that part of the song for the first time, years ago * - *
    I've always loved how this album sounds so dark and uplifting at the same time, I have no idea how they managed to do that but it's great! I remember being obsessed with this record for months after first hearing it, and seeing how much you enjoyed it brought me so much joy ^^
    Also, here's a little fun fact about this album: it wasn't even supposed to be an album at first. Basically the band recorded 3 EPs and at some point they decided to fuse them in a single album: considering how cohesive it sounds, knowing this makes it even more amazing to me ^^

    Now you know that Chino is secretly a pop singer when he isn't screaming his head off! I think a lot of these singers in metal bands have burning desires to really be pop stars lol. And I applaud them for it, they should be allowed to explore their different musical sides. But yeah, this is a really fun album. It's kind of a mishmash of various sounds (these songs were originally released as a series of EP's and then combined into this album so I guess it's technically a compilation album) as you mentioned. 1994 in particular is one of my favorite songs of all time, something about that one just takes me to another world. I think more Crosses is supposed to drop this Spring, so definitely something to look forward to. As always, gotta give you a recommendation: If you like Crosses, check out The Black Queen. It's Greg Puciato of The Dillinger Escape Plan's side project, basically his version of Crosses. You'd be absolutely shocked it's the same singer - Dillinger is some of the most abrasive, harsh, insane metal ever recorded, yet The Black Queen is the same guy now singing with a gorgeous falsetto over lush, synthy electronics.

    • @mollyesanborn
      @mollyesanborn  Před 2 lety +1

The 2 main albums "Tin Cans With Strings To You" and "Water & Solutions" are pretty easily available online, and i think you would really enjoy them. Shaun also was one of the producers on the "Saturday Night Wrist" album, as well as the producer on the Crosses album.

Alternatively, you could start with "Imagica", which contains remasters from their early demo tapes, but i found them a bit jarring in terms of production quality when compared to "Violet". Cheers
