Met you in Albuquerque at a futures event. Was really bummed that you didn't get in. It was fun hitting with you and I think you could have really blown out most of the competition there. Look forward to seeing more of your videos.
thank you!
This is a super encouraging video to watch. Thanks for taking us through a constructive look at a rough day. It's interesting you mentioned feeling like the net was a mile away shifting indoors. I live in a cold area and spend long parts of the year indoors and it is always hard transitioning between indoors and outdoors. Going from indoors to outdoors feels like I have to tighten up to keep things under control, outdoors to indoors feels like I have to work hard to keep things in depth. Crazy how our eyes trick our bodies like that.
right? It was a weird transition. I like indoors but struggled this time
This came at the right time for me as I just had my worst match of the year yesterday. Thanks for your vulnerability in sharing.
Of course. Shake it off, onto the next
I think avoiding poor matches by maintaining a clear mindset to find ways to win is one of the major keys to success at the highest level. No one plays at a high percentage of their potential in a match every time. That's something I certainly have trouble with, as well, particularly against a pusher...
Hurts just watching that call at 5:35.... Great video Karue!
Thanks so much for posting. Nice for us to see an honest post match recap with insight to what went wrong. Loving the content. Have a good off season!
Hey Karue - thanks for the great and thoughtful recap. It can’t be easy to be so vulnerable and honest about your performance especially cuz you’ve been kicking ass so much lately! I think Sabalenka said, “you’re either winning or learning”. Good luck on the next one.
Hey Karue , great channel and another great video, keep it coming, I think it was just a mental fatigue from the previous match which caused stiffness and mental fog in this match , but I am sure you will bounce back stronger in the next season. Keep going.
Its crazy that this happens at all levels. Thanks for sharing this, you have no idea how it helped me mentally to watch this, just to know Karue even goes through bad days. This is a reminder we're all human and we all have bad days. In the days of instagram and linkedin where everyone just post their success, no one posts their bad days.
I'm going through job interviews and feel interviews and tennis matches have a lot of in common. Watching this helped me to relax before the interview, because I realized you cant control having a bad day. Just get back up and do it again. Same as tennis matches.
What makes you a legend is posting your tanking match on youtube. This may be the most value added tennis content anyone has posted. You're the man!! Puke and rally!!!
this video lived up to the hype. Excellent job in the edit as well, hilarious beginning! Onwards and upwards...
Thank you very much. Will do a lot more of these in 2024
Loved the 2 videos that came from this, both yours and Treys video! Awesome collab. Laughed hard at your comment at 8:17, know the feeling after giving away games to opponents for the same reason. Maybe I should think about the way you said it next time I am serving terrible, have a laugh and maybe snap out of it. Thank you for bringing us on your epic journey!
Great video Karue, thanks for sharing. Love the hilarious intro! Which tournament are you playing?
valuable video that helps learn from where things went wrong and how that applies to my game, too. Thanks for this one!
Fuerza hermano. Siga hacia delante.
Great breakdown Karue, we learn much more from our losses than we do our victories. I tend to get so much more internal development from losing, and much more external development from winning.
Win or lose, it's developing an aspect of our lives that is required to move forward into the next level.
Followed you live at ITF and was pulling for you. Dude, just one match as you know happens to everyone. I'm guessing your 3 hour plus match from the day before was very draining and not something you've had regular experience with recently. M25s have a higher caliber of player than the 15s (typically) as well. Shoot, you have just started your comeback and already won a futures tourney and are back to being ATP ranked! Amazing work in a few short months. Having said that, looking forward to your match comments as I'm guessing Cash is a player that you would typically beat. Great channel enjoying vicariously watching your journey!
Totally understandable and so frustrating. The question is how do you overcome the mental frustration that's lingering during a high paced game like this? Any learnings or advice would be amazing. Thanks for all the genuine and honest content!! 🙏🙏👏👏
Thank you for sharing this. It helps to know that we are not the only ones who have days like this
This reminds me of a loss when I was a tennis camp (1973). I was seeded second and my mind was all of the place, no focus. I was winning; but, not crushing a much weaker player. I served and moved into volley an mishit it into the net. I turned and threw my racket at the fence and audibly was sharing my disgust so loudly it stopped play on virtually every court (I think 16 courts). After a few seconds I realized what a dope I was and never regained composure and lost. Those are tough. This story is the foundation of what I tell people about winning and losing: "I don't mind being beaten, I hate losing." Because losing is something I had control over and I did it...I lost.
Happens to the best of us.
You're already on top of it!
Cheers with full support
M
Love the intro and thanks for sharing...you were in most of the games but lost some tough one...how do you know when to change tactics if each game is very long and close but you lose most of them...do you make changes?
We've all had days like that, thanks for sharing. FYI it looked like your first serve ball toss wasn't in to the court as much as it normally is when you're serve is working well.
love seeing that you are human with emotions, love this sport we deal with so much
Keep it up karue, we sometimes win some and lose some but everything is a learning process. Are you ever going to collab with Simon Freund tennis?
Thanks for this great video. 👍
Great to see and hear all the stats but also from what your thoughts were in the match. The guy looks tough or played really well that day, fast long strides.
That out serve call was pretty wild! Def is tough to deal with especially in a crucial point/game.
Good insights and thanks for sharing!
One question: in general- If you could put a number 0-10. How aggressive are you mentally planning to hit when you’re returning second serves?
I feel you on the losses, it stinks to lose when you arent feeling great. I typically play with a buddy and it seems he always tells me about an injury or something that throws me off before we play.
Some how he always ends up "playing through" the pain and wins. Weird, need to find that mamba mentality and keep going!
Sensasional, fascinating and funny !
can you make another backhand video? I am struggling like crazy and I love your backhand. I dont know how to condense my swing.
Hilarious!😂
You’ll bounce back, Karue!
You’re better than me I’m just a 5.5 usta player, but over a 6 month stretch I decided to serve a basket almost daily and the serve confidence and percentage sky rocketed, currently serving over 70% first serve percentage
That intro is so funny! Great video - keep at it!
thank you!
Love your authenticity K
appreciate it
WIn or learn. You'll get it next time Karue. Keep your spirits high. Will be rooting for you next year. I believe you can improve you best ramking. Let´s go!!
Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy! Our thoughts can either make us great, or make us feel like what am I doing out here. I have faith you will do much better in the future, and you will learn from your experience. Good luck in the future my friend.
5:31 that is just obscene as you described it, the ball was long by 3 or 4 balls length
mental clarity is so critical during a match when things aren't going your way, being alert enough to have an awareness of what's going on and how to solve various problems.
You’re disappointed and we’re disappointed for you, but love how you started the video, awesome that you can poke some fun at the experience. Really appreciate your frankness about everything, especially letting the bad calls bother you. I’m a much lower level and lost my last match because I let my opponent’s unsporting attempts to hinder and distract annoy me. Glad I’m not the only one who has those focus issues at times.
glad to see you also struggle - makes my struggling performance more human 😅
Karue 2024 - looking forward to it! Hoping for some big Ws and (hopefully not too many) more great lessons to take away after togh losses.
great vid broski, what are those nikes they cool af
I think they are called Cage 4
lol on karue slowly sinking in front of his laptop 😂❤😅
Karue did u already play with poly tour rev from yonex? Just bought the v core pro 97h and got 3 of those with, lmk if worth to try it, I usually play with lxl alu power, thanks
0:07 lol, that’s great content 😂
I love French Open posters from the 80s also =- have never seen the 87 before that must be a Lendl win off the top of my head
Cheers for this video! Win or lose, your viewers and I always learn from your experiences. The serve is very much like golf. Just the littlest mechanical movement can *uck up the swing. Usually it's unconscious. TigerWoods says it's important to know what you think you're doing is what you're actually doing. I.e. the conscious must match what the unconscious is doing.
Great video. Random question: is that a tissot PRX on your wrist?
yes sir
Huge kudos to you for having the bravery to post this when you weren't on your game physically or mentally. That's the real win here!
appreciate it
Thanks for sharing - looking forward to seeing you kick butt in the next one!@@MyTennisHQ
Those flat balls you were putting into the net, in the moment what adjustments did you try and looking back was it the correct adjustment?
I do this often in competition, I think it’s more about getting tight for me and not finishing the swing.
We all have bad days, but you still play amazingly. I would love to train with you someday!
I partied with Ty Tucker way back in the day. He and my close friend went to Palmer Tennis Academy in Saddlebrook, FL. Good dude.
As for the match. There will always be bad days. Let this be a lesson in character building.
Karue are you wearing Vuori? I LOVE that brand. You've got great taste lol
What wristbands do you use? They look comfy.
I once lost to Robert Cash 6-0, 6-0 and felt like ramming my head into a brick wall. Karue just like me for real for real
i love this, awesome
Great video and channel. For us amateur players, did you get a warning or point penalty for throwing your racquet with the lines person/ official 5 feet away? Curious about that one.
i got a warning but no point penalty
Dude I have the same new yorker poster but is yours like super fuzzy as well after they blow it up to that size?
I remember an interview with a top professional in another competitive sports (Go aka "Cinese chess"). The journalist asked: "Why do like Go so much?" to which he responded: "I HATE Go". Being a pro is not necessarily boosting your love for the game. :)
Your still the best bro!!!
office background is 🔥
Best background by the best GF
Dang that one serve was a foot out. Crazy!
Love the way of how at least you can laugh about yourself and have a little bit of self-deprecation. You'll do better next time. You were very impressive against Giron.
Keep it on Karue ! The next one is gonna be a victory.
of course. This is tennis, can’t win them all
lmao that serve @5:33 was about a foot out
I had the worst match of my life at a tournament today. It was at my level but felt like I was on a river without a paddle. I went home and signed up for another for this weekend!
Man that intro was so funny😭
RF once said at IW after a tough win against Borna Coric, "Some days nothing feels right, and just hitting the middle of the court is a win". In that match he was playing first match in the day session, I think, unusual for him. The challenge is recognizing the situation and making those adjustments in real time. You looked a little flat Karue, not quite your usual. Give yourself a break, Robert played awesome, and some days are tough at the office!
I think its pretty obvious what the issue during this game was. Your socks were clearly not high enough
you are absolutely right
What does one have to do when the serve is not working/getting any free points?
Weird timing this. I played my third league match and couldnt finish it because of a right pec injury! Without the first serve its really difficult to win points especially when you keep feeling you have a mountain to climb the moment it comes back on return. 0-6 i lost that first set. And had to stop because injury was getting worse. Will resume the match with ice, rest and stretch cycle. Luckily I can take a positive by knowing what my opponents strengths and weaknesses are. The rest is down to train and execute. Onwards and upwards Karue. We've got this 💪
I remember years ago I lost a match in high school up 8-5 in a match to 10 games. Lost 5 consecutive games. Hated everyone and everything afterwards. It sucks!
hilarious intro. Probably best way in hindsight to handle a loss and shit going sideways. Too many tennis CZcamsrs seem to really harbor their losses doing all this deep reflection on camera. Seems like that just causes a loss to fester.
Yeah. I want to learn from it and let go. Sometimes it is easy to overthink it vs being objective. I think making videos like this will help me be objective and move on hahah it’s just tennis
ive just had a similar tournament weekend too lmao
Wow winner's only tennis is such a great channel for intermediate players like myself
did you switch you raquet for the second game ?
Sometimes you can’t get a feel on the ball the more you try the worse it gets. I’ve had days where I couldn’t hit a cows arse with a banjo
We were going to come down and see you but wow… those ITF matches aren’t geared toward people with day jobs.
Is it feasible to push them to afternoon/early evening? Charge a modest admission. Make some money? Or am I missing something obvious?
I think the ethos at a future is to “just get the matches done with” unfortunately. But I agree, matches should be later for public
Here's the thing that always gets me about tennis. The unforced erros. Why is it that we don't fall off a bicycle "unforced" but still make unforced errors in tennis?
Whoah! Poor baby lol We’re our own worst critic. You gave it ur all and learned something about it. Undesired result is not a failure
when are you switching to one hand backhand ;)
Man, even at the pro level, the struggle is real.
Playing indoors is very different!!
@mytennishq
Want to re-check your website under Court Areas diagram, doubles width says 35 ft. (should that be 36 ft.)
Losses are here to test our mental skills. They can help to improve so we can see them as positive things, even if they're boring on the moment.
Worth mentioning he also played like a 3.5 hr match the match before this
Great video, Karue, as all these other comments are also saying! :)
If you're ever playing in the Bay Area/NorCal, please let me know and I'd be more than happy to take the opportunity and document everything for you!
appreciate it
Maybe the court was 1 inch longer causing you to miss serves bc the muscle memory and visual perception is different😅
Legendary intro lol
The call at 5:32 might be the worst decision by an official ref I have ever seen in my life.
yeah you are better than the loss - pls don't throw your racket it solves nothing - stay in control !!
It happens bud. You learn from it. I’ve been there so often!
good to know I'm not the only one who has those days 😅
Could not stop laughing the first minute of the video
That forehand at 5:12 was a massive IDGAF moment lmao, thanks for the transparency Karue, BIG COMEBACK SOON!
Your opponent had a very American (US) game! Indoor Tennis is perfect for that style, TBH.
real talk
Mano, se a aquela grand willy tivesse entrado ia ser outro jogo.
Probably switching to indoors messed with your visual space sense on the serve.
What is your Racket?
