As an RN is Canada, I think Dr. Huberman’s podcast is invaluable. Many people don’t get adequate patient information. There’s just no time for it up here. Huberman Lab podcast presents diverse topics in a way that the average person can get a handle on. He’s really a wonderful teacher. His passion is obvious.

Talking over people is not teaching. Bringing high/technical language down to a level that students can relate and understand is. That’s one of the main things that makes Andrew Huberman a true teacher! Thank you @hubermanlab🙏🏻

There’s nothing wrong with criticism when you make it constructive. That’s how we grow & improve each other & ourselves. We have to be open to constructive criticism because none of us are perfect. That’s the difference between a hater & someone offering constructive criticism. If you can offer a better, more efficient way or offer advice based off solid background experience etc., then we should all be open to listening. Dr. Huberman offering that forum is a testament to his humility, ensuring a way to have open, constructive dialogue is available, speaks volumes to his character.
Awesome content gentlemen & I’m grateful to have access to it.

Very disappointing deflection. The criticism about sponsors is very fair, as Huberman peddles nootropics and other supplements which expected properties are not demonstrated to work as advertisements imply they can, and people in academia are pointing this out - so it’s disingenuous to make it about „sponsors and advertisers” as function, and not about their qualities.

As Americans our First Amendment rights are paramount; and yes, everyone's entitled to their opinion. What's interesting is to look at the reasons why some people have the need to overly critical and judgmental of others. In Dr. Lillian Glass' book, Toxic People, she makes a good argument about jealousy being the reason. (Others say low self-esteem or narcissism.)
Why would anyone be jealous of AH? He's only attractive, well-educated, charismatic, genuine, humble, and mostly--has an incredible following of everyday people like me who have learned a lot about neuroscience and used that knowledge to make ourselves better people. He shares his passion for neuroscience and empowering others. On balance, his positives significantly outweigh his negatives, but then that just gets us back to jealousy as a reason for criticizing him.

      @@fluffyscruffySure, thanks for engaging.
First, his analysis of the data regarding psychotropic medications such as SSRI’s and how they work is extremely flawed, because ALL of that data is inherently flawed, as is the nature of the DSM diagnostics they’re said to treat.
Those drugs most certainly do not work how we’ve been told - pharma doesn’t even understand how they actually work - and pharma companies have been caught numerous times fabricating their own data (how this is allowed is beyond me) to sell scripts.
Huberman should know this as a top-tier neuroscientist representing arguably the finest neuroscience academic institution in the world. He makes no mention of the horrific side effects people experience, sometimes PERMANENTLY even after the medications have been ceased (look into the horrors of PSSD). Someone with his position must know/do better.
In regards to stimulant medications for ADHD, he claimed they are safe, without long-term side effects - even mainstream psychiatrists/psychologists will push back on this, as we simply do not have long-term data yet on the sizable chunk of a generation we’ve drugged on stimulants.
As history tells us when it comes to other controlled substances handed out like candy, such as opiates or benzodiazepines - it typically doesn’t play out well, despite how “safe” we’re told these drugs are.

A second point of contention I have in regards to Huberman is his dissemination of fitness information. As a functional fitness coach of a decade, I can tell you that he cherry-picks many studies regarding strength and conditioning, but given his lack of experience coaching anyone’s fitness but his own, he lacks the practical experience necessary to piece this information together into how it actually plays out when coaching people to long-term gains in the gym. As with any craft, when you get down to the details of it, there are many nuances in fitness that one can literally only learn through coaching for years.
A specific example that comes to mind is his recommendation of a 10x10 protocol for maximum muscle building. He is not taking into account (based on a cherry-picked study with many controls involved, as all studies have) that the average person will simply not have the caloric requirements met, the optimal recovery time or environment, or the joint health and integrity to ever yield long-term gains from such a prescription.
If memory serves me correctly, he has also advocated for lower volume, higher-intensity work when mentioning an exercise such as a leg extension. While the superiority of low-volume, high-intensity strength training is certainty proven, it applies to compound lifts. It doesn’t just entirely defeat the purpose of performing a leg extension (for the record, most people won’t get any gains from a leg extension, period), but it’s actually inherently dangerous to recommend based on the amount of stress being put on the knee joint in a non-functional position.
