@@watercolourmark The "peripheral" nerv he's talking about is actually regulated by autonomic nervous system, but as far as I know one of its purposes is to adapt us for fight or flight situations, dunno about the stuff he's talking about ( it might be true). That peripheral nerv is connected to the same part of the "brain"( really complex word cuz it depends what do you mean by it, cuz there are several brains) or better say lower parts of brain called Talamus, as eye nerv ( or optical nerv) is connected to it too. From there, signal travels to the big brain( at the back of it), at the area called occipital part of the big brain. That's your primal vision field, it's made out of six layers, and each layer has a different role(except 4th one, cuz that's the one where signal is coming from) and can send the signal to other parts of brain. So everything is pretty much complex, everything is somehow connected to something else, specially in the "brain" area, and you can't put your finger on it and be 100% sure, specially cuz only Big brain is made out of 100 billion neuron cells, nearly all of them are connected to each other, they can "cancel" each other in a way not allowing signals to pass etc. Sorry if this was to long, English is not my native language and I hope it's at least understandable.

Now you are walking backwards in the pitch black. Your legs feel really heavy like you are walking on sticky fly paper. Suddenly you can't move any longer. There is nothing you can do but flap your arms. Then you see a white light getting bigger and bigger. As it comes closer you realize its a tow truck. It says "Focker Towing" on the side. Inside is a circus clown with the red nose and curly hair. Except its the most handsome clown you have ever seen. He has an aura like you've known him your whole life. His face makeup is smeared like he has been crying and that makes you feel sorry for him. He heard your cries for help and offers to help you out of the sticky situation that you got yourself into. He offers to pull you out at no charge but you feel compelled to pay him. You would do anything for Focker to help him and his circus show. So you quietly send him $500 or more to his paypal or venmo and he says he will send you two tickets to his next show in return back to normal.........eyes open.

I am still amazed at how my brain was telling me how to survive that crash. (I was gripping the wheel, tucked my head down and brought my knees up,while thank God I was wearing a seatbelt. Tunnel vision is the best way to describe it. But it was also a definite fight or flight instinct going on. Yes, I was sober. A deer ran out in front of me and I swerved. I'm positive that if I had been under the influence I would have died. The brain is a miraculous mysterious thing!! I trained in and taught traditional martial arts for years. There is a strange state that a very seasoned martial artist can attain through practice only. You can't practice the state. It just happens eventually after years of relaxation breathing while sparring/fighting/training. I find it difficult to explain, but you are able to relax your vision completely, widen your viewing lens (you can see all corners of the room) while remaining intensely alert. It's a strange state of alert relaxation that enable the body to move very quickly. It is also very threatening to a person who experiences it from the other side. Breathing changes simultaneously as well.

I've been practicing self-hypnosis meditation since I was a child.
The foundation of hypnosis is comfort and trust. Not just physical comfort , emotional too. If you cannot leave your life behind or don't trust the hypnotists, it's very difficult to do anything.
Second part is the monkey brain , brain tends to talk shit a lot , learning to separate the inner chatter and the focus. Your brain can chatter all day long if you don't pay attention to it , who cares.
Third and final piece is awareness , even today 3/10 during hypnosis I actually fall asleep. This is due to the fact I tend to do it in the evening or at night. Being rested is considerably better.
The trick is to keep the tiniest silver of awareness while your mind drifts. If you loose this tiny sliver it's lights out.
Having said that there are ways of re-gaining awareness after you blank out , then you get into lucid dreaming and out of body territory.
If I had to make an analogy about self-hypnosis, it's like putting out a fire to the smallest possible size, but you don't want to put it out completely.

But the pain is momentary as I had PRK and not Lasik, meaning a stick in my eye can't hurt my vision but a stick in the eye of someone who's had lasik can actually cause the outer layer of the eye to come loose as it's been cut and can't really be re-attached or at least that's what I recall the people at the clinic saying or something to that effect. Moreover with regards to the eye's being part of the brain, does that mean laser eye surgery can cause brain damage?

Medical professional here when he says “eyes are part of the brain” its not completely true your external eyes are not part of your brain. The optic nerve which travels from the back of rentina to the occipital lobe in back of brain “connects” brain to eye, however the lens, pupils conjuctivita are external and not considered “central nervous system” .. the nerves connecting to eye can be seen as peripheral nervous or “cranial nerves”. 👌

I took the same test which showed I wasn’t hypnotizable. I tried getting hypnotized by an experienced professional and never reached a trance like state. I felt alert and aware the whole time. I really wanted to be hypnotized. So disappointing.

@@leagueleaders Its not 100% bs, your body and your brain can be in two different states at the same time, for example sleep paralysis, the state of being conscious while your body is still asleep. There is also different states of sleep, REM (rapid eye movement) sleep is when you are asleep but your brain is more active causing dreams, while NREM (non rapid eye movement) sleep is when you are sleeping at a more relaxed state of unconsciousness. NREM sleep is also when your body is conserving energy, repairing tissue and building muscle.

“Saur was going for the face each time. From practice bouts, I knew this to be his way. It is a particularly invasive approach, and can provoke rash reactions that lead to failures of technique. One is hard-wired to guard one’s face, one’s eyes. To focus the attack there forces the opponent to fight not only you, but his own autonomic responses as well. Saur was trying to undermine the stranger’s technical control.”

I hear ya. His voice is very relaxing and you are feeling sleepy, very sleepy. Your eyelids are like garage doors and you pushed the button to make them go down.
