Man, I was literally thinking the other day how great it was that they’ve given Giedi Prime this weird black & white sun because it means the Harkonnens have been shaped by their environment in the same way the Fremen and Sardaukar are in the book. And here Denis is saying that was exactly his motivation, to follow the book’s theme of environments shaping populations. The guy understands the source material so well.
Yeah I actually don’t mind him changing details like the Harkonnens being red-haired to being bald, or Mapes or Thufir being different. I think it wouldve had to be a miniseries to have more of the small details
So so true 👏
Understands it so well that he's able to completely change half the plot points in the book.
@Sirhephaestus if you don't understand how the changes Denis made in part 2 greatly enhance and reinforce the themes of the original text, you need to brush up on your media literacy.
@@joekratman1872 I'll stick to the books, thanks.
Cinema is lucky to have artists like Denis
This dude is the real fuckin’ deal, and he also just seems like a generally pretty cool guy.
It’s great when someone so talented also comes across as super chill
My favorite filmmaker.
mine too
I think of him as a modern day Hitchcock without the baggage.
the man is on a historic streak. hasn’t missed once. it’s.. insane
Literally same.
Arrival's my fav movie
The whole black and white geidi prime sequence was just peak life.
Infrared actually
he killed it. fucking killed it. dune 2 is easily one of the best films of the last decade
He's now truly among the greats.
I'm so happy for him. He always made great movies. But maybe was a little bit under the radar. And sadly a great movie like Blade Runner 2049 was a box office flop or even Dune 1 wasn't this big success released in Corona times with simultaneous HBO Max release. It were difficult times for him. But now everybody must acknowledge him and nobody can deny him his praise. Yet he is so humble and deserves being praised by everybody. Often times it's annoying when people in the spotlight are celebrated too much. But with him it's different, he deserves everything and I'm really glad for him.
Denis makes the most beautiful and visually stunning films of any current director. I love him.
We are privileged to be living at the same time Denis Villeneuve is releasing films.
Denis you are really special! When its all said and done you will be mentioned in one sentence with the great ones. This is only the beginning of your career because finally you get your deserved recognition and people see how great you truly are (and always have been).
The black and white fireworks had me speechless
Oof, yes!
Simply a mastermind
This is a really good interview. Mia Lee Vicino is a good interviewer who asked great questions and I love how she let Villeneuve speak without interrupting. And Villeneuve’s passion for the world of Dune is a delight.
I could hear him talk about the making of Dune and Dune Part 2 all day
Seeing part 2 on Sunday! Can’t wait 🙌🏻
Likewise 👊🏻
Enjoy brother.
Got my IMAX ticket for next Saturday! So excited 🙌
So hyped for Sunday!!
Greig Fraser is a master at his craft. Teamed with Denis, it's almost too much talent for one film.
Fraser is the best new cinematographer of the past decade.
Fraser, Villeneuve and Zimmer - this is a trio that always deliver
I can't believe nobody has picked up on this yet so I will say it here. The scene shot from above as Paul moves through the huge crowd of Freman is a visual reference to him being the Kwisatz Haderach. In Dune part 1 Mohiam says "Like sifting sand through a screen we sift people". The scene from above resembles grains of sand with Paul sifting through them and being separate because he is the Kwisatz Haderach that the Bene Gesserit have been working towards all those years.
Just watched the movie this evening, it was awesome. great job Denis and everybody else involved!
I can’t wait to see this movie!!
Legendary Filmmaker coupled with a Legendary Author. Can’t beat this combo. We are the luckiest fanbase of our time!
Greatest of this century
Eh, you could say "one of the best," but there's obviously many extraordinary directors since 2000 (such as Nolan)
@@nickm.5931dude denis fucking kills nolan's entire discography.
@@elpis. nah bro Nolan kills Denis's discography 2x over bro, it's over, so easy
@@nickm.5931you are etiher delusional or have a 3 seconds attention span to watch a denis movie
@@nickm.5931 definitely not. no point in comparing the two anyway
hes one of the greatest directors of all time alongside nolan, dune franchise is becoming a MASTERPIECE, denis is truly an ARTIST and knows how to tell a story better than anyone!!
Very interesting, intelligent questions
That man is a straight genius and I need dune Messiah asap, can’t leave us with Chani upset riding off 😭
GOAT! QC ❤
More of Denis!! This video is to short for what he gave to (all) of us!!! 🌹❤
Sry about my spelling - I'm german 🙈🙈
Having read the first two books I'm sooo happy it was Denis who got to make these movies 🥹
One of the best
wow, kudos to the interview for know "The Seventh Seal".
so nobody asked Denis about that spider thing in ᑐᑌᑎᕮ PART 1 ?
Yes Mr. Villeneuve. Dune Part 1 is a masterpiece.. Going for part in cinema.. Also, watch over the talented British actor Nicholas Galitzine. He is a DUNE too. That’s extremely talented he is! Thankyou. B.B
Mia: Brings up Beau Teavail
Me: 😮😮😮
Dennyyy! How you duuune??...
Dune your mom... I'm sorry...
12 hour director/assembly cut, Denis. I am your guilty conscience talking to you, Denis. The coming generations will judge you for your crimes against humanity, Denis.
The GOAT
Could we get a world where blade runner is a preeeeeeee-quel to Dune?
Are the Storm Troopers a rip off of the Sardaukars ??
umm, you're aware that the whole Star wars is a Dune rip-off right?
@@saloksingh7Exactly
All due respect to The Deaks, but I think Greig Fraizer has supplanted him as the best cinematographer working today.
Québec represent🩷
.
Nolan i think is a bit overrated but Denis is a true artist
How did he produce such an epic adaptation and David Lynch with just as large a budget at the time produce an exploitation/b movie?
A. Lynch didn't read the book or care to.
B. Studio interference
C. technical advancements
not reading the source material with what today would be a 120 million dollar budget is insane@@TronLennonMusic
Because Lynch doesn't generally make movies with such a big scale.
Plus at the time, Dune was basically thought to be impossible to make into a movie
Not really a fan of Giedi Prime suddenly being black and white. That wasnt the case in the first movie?
it was only two short scenes that were both indoors, I think the implication is that outside in the daylight it looks totally alien like that. looking forward to seeing how it translates in the theater
Well if you watch the interview he said that the sunlight turns it into black and white. The scenes in Part 1 were during the night. I'm sure you can figure out why they weren't in black and white?
I watched the movie, and the giedi scenes was really fantastic.
She tried to dizz denis but he’s having none of that
My only gripe is that he made all the Harkonnens look like garage sale versions of the engineers from Prometheus 😡 Feyd is suppose to have hair 🤦🏾🤦🏾🤦🏾🤦🏾
I made it through Dune Part 1 last night. It only took me two weeks lol. Disclaimer: I never read the book, so I came in with no bias. The visuals were good. The guy who played Paul who I think was Timothee Chalarmet was the weakest actor by far. His mother was a good actress. The Harkonens were good. If I had paid money in the theater to see Dune Part 1 I would have been mad. I hear Part 2 is far superior to part 1 because they brought in some strong actors. Hopefully the guy who played Paul has developed as an actor because he was pretty bad. Again, I didn't read the book. I think those who read the book love the movie and perhaps overlook things that someone who didn't might pick up on and vice versa.
As someone who’s read the book it’s a fantastic adaptation so far. It was exactly how I imagined it when reading the book.
so i think you prefer crapy movies
@@bigben9056 That's what you got out of that? lol.
@@BellinghamYorkshire Its funny that you say if you had paid to see part 1 in theaters you would've been mad. I actually think you would have liked it more. The sound alone is reason to see it in a theater especially in IMAX. It's so much more immersive. Watching Dune at home doesn't do it proper justice.
Trust me you would not have been mad to pay money to see it in a theater. The experience was the most sensual I have ever had while watching a movie. Besides you’re critique of Paul’s portrayal (which was far from bad) you didn’t give any context on why you didn’t like the movie.
I'm astounded by Denis' inability to express himself in English after all these years. But it gives me courage as a director
