- This is a a DR Trimmer/Mower, model 60B from around 1997 that was received with a group of mowers and it needed a little work to get it running again. Sorry for the bad voice and coughing, I was just getting over a case of strep throat and was dying to get outside and do something.

Perfect timing on this vid. I just picked up this exact model from a neighbor today for $25. I grabbed the manual pdf off the DR website. I see you're missing the rod from the chassis thru that hole in the handle support. I think it's called an ATR or something. My neighbor sez it ran, but wouldn't come up to speed, so it's probably a carb issue. I haven't messed with it anymore today.
I'll watch you're vid and let you go thru the process and then I'll know how to proceed. Mine's a 60B model, made btwn 1985-2001. I think you're idea of using a rust converter on the handle bars and then rattle can them black is a good idea. Mine's in the same shape. I'll do the same on mine. Battery's toast and I'm not going to replace it. Not cost effective. Thanks for this video.
Cheers.
Bit late now for comments but undo the 3 front bolts and drop the strimmer line head. Check the brake pad. Also to adjust the tensioner rear right of machine adjust cable nuts. Also the belt is on the outside of the guide at the front. Hope this helps someone.
What is the wheel adjustment for
Can't keep the belt from coming out of the pulley guide have a 5
0 model maybe the tensioner is set up wrong any ideas
6/9/23 I have 6XB 08001 DR. Diamond I/C 6HP I got it free from my neighbor, and he said it is running, but the primer bulb leaking. Nowhere on the web, can I see the model. Called the DR company man said that the number is not showing on his computer, so does anyone know a compatible primer bulb to replace it. Also, I like to know if this model takes strait gas. Thank you guys
I have same model today I cannot get blade to disengage
Billie is right run the old belt to smooth the groove of the pully before you replace the belt .
Those are good eaters for sure but it’s work using them
Just not much deman for them anymore but with cable wire they get it done really fast
just picked up a 2 stroke one, not running yet. What does that small thing in the middle do of the back do? The lever and rod are missing from mine too
Might have to make a set or wait for other junkers
I just picked one up for $20. I think the carburetor needs replaced. The engine is a 5 hp Briggs and Stratton. Where do I find the engine #'s to order the correct carb?
Usually you can find the numbers right above the spark plug, stamped into the steel
I wonder if drilling out the main jet a tiny bit would sort out the surging? Then again a new carb's cheap.
I've already got a new carb for it and a new belt. I'm sure I will post an update video to complete the project.
@@SmallEngineDIY Do you know what size belt is required? I need one.
@@EverythingOutside1971 just replaced mine today. It's a 1/2" by 45" V-belt, the belt ID number is 4L450. My local auto parts store had one for about $9
Did you steal my trimmer, ha. I just got the same trimmer with same pull cord hanging out like that. Was hard to turn over, but sprayed some ether in intake an started right up.
My DR trimmer is running rough. It starts popping and shows a little puff of smoke. Any idea ?
Check the valves. Sometimes they sound like they are popping if they are sticking or if a rid is bent.
The problem is that I’ve been a woodworker all my life, but I’ve never worked on engines. So no easy fix ?
Almost forgot...mustie1's channel is great for anymore messing with small engines and VW's. FYI.
Good job. Lots of sniffing.
I bet it’s hard to work around the camera and not knocking it over plus showing what your doing
Thank You for information and video
I still love fixing them and really miss repairing frac trucks
Rust it the grooves of the pulleys will cause it to keep wanting to spin
You are probably correct. I am going to replace the belt and clean up the pulleys....probably post the results in a follow-on video.
I purchased one for $50 but needs belt to turn cable to cut but can’t find model #
Most of these older DR trimmers use a V belt that's 1/2" by 45" (search "4L450 belt" online or at your local auto parts store)
Thank You for information
carb is ripped up from ethanol fuel.New Carb
I can't get past the constant sniffing lay off the stuff dude
Had to stop watching after about 1 minute because the way you were handling the camera made me dizzy.
