  • Picked up an old school 1989 DR Brush Mower. It has the original 8hp Briggs motor. No problem cutting anything I wanted it to. Anything bigger would be easier to use a chain saw to avoid the mess. No reverse, very heavy, noisy, and not good traction. I believe its best for flatter ground and stuff like sticker bushes and sapling patches, stuff you dont want to pick up or handle. Using it for grass or small trees would be waisting time.

I have the same old model (and a newer one too). These things were made before zero turns hit the consumer market. A great way to get your aerobics in chasing the machine and pulling it back. Sadly the throw bar snapped on mine one day when I suddenly hit a no longer buried boulder (wasn't there the year before) and DR was of no help, so I bought a new one back in 2000 or so. I like the new ones have a reverse. Again sadly for unknown reasons the chain drive cover blew apart today (throwing the chain in the process). So 12 years with one, 20 something with the other. Great machines.

I used to own gravely equipment. The key is to make the machine do the work. If you begin to wrestle with it, it will wear you out in short order. Inclines are ok, but be careful when doing it and give the engine time to oil itself.

I bought one new in 1994 and sold it when I moved a few years later. Just got it back and spent some time getting it running again. Great machine, but it seems to have gained a lot of weight in the past quarter-century.

Nice creek and piece of land. you should try to stock that with fish. I'm not impressed by the brush hog, seen much better performance on newer ones, or maybe the blades just need sharpened.

Ok so it may say 89 but that's probly a 90 91 maby because I've got a all original 89 and the engine is a older style Briggs the air cleaner and exhaust are both different and the gas tank too. Mine also has a factory hand throtle on the bar.
