    For those of you wondering why Michael spared the baby, here’s what I read on Pure Evil Wiki: When asked by Cinemablend on why did Michael Myers spare an infant in the 2018 Halloween film, director David Gordon Green disclosed the crew's feelings that in spite of Michael's status as Pure Evil, him sparing the infant was an unexplicably moment of doing the right thing, though Gordon Green admitted himself that he can't justify why Michael took that decision, yet found fascinating that humane moment. If it were confirmed that Michael spared the infant out of pity or because he couldn't bring himself to kill such a defenseless creature, it would strip him of his Pure Evil status. Though this is highly unlikely because he is shown to be very sadistic throughout the trilogy and even in the original film, as he likes to scare his victims and even bring fear into the hearts of those he kills or doesn't kill, and he spares the infant because it cannot be scared, be afraid, or even comprehend him, which is why he is referred to as The Bogeyman because he lives off of other people's fear.

    • @josiahplummer9051
      @josiahplummer9051 Před 8 měsíci +48

      This is my take on it, as well. Infants are completely irrelevant to Michael. They pose no threat, and are incapable of comprehending the boogeyman. Michael let the baby live to potentially grow up to be another victim.

      The original Michael was not a random killing machine, but the embodiment of fear and death. He played with Annie, Lynda, Bob and Laurie to instil fear before killing them. And toddlers are not afraid of something abstract like the Boogeyman, so Michael has no interest in them. Just like children have no interest in toddlers - you can't play with them.

He then turns and spots a target and starts going to the shed for the hammer. I think that's one of the scary things about his character. Some of what he does is completely random, and unpredictable. Some targets he stalks basically forever, others are just random people, and others he doesn't even acknowledge.

      There's too much comedy, which hampers the pace and tone of the film. I watched it in theaters, and every time I was beginning to really get absorbed, someone would say something bizarre and silly. You could tell that it was written by Danny McBride, and not in a good way. All of this, "I got peanut butter on my penis" talk, and, "I want to dance" talk totally marginalized the creepy, stoic tone. I'm not saying that characters can't input their own occasional levity into the scene, but it got ridiculous when it was cops talking about their lunch for a solid 3 minutes. It needed a lot of trimming, because there's nothing wrong with a 90 minute movie. We also didn't get much time to watch Michael stalk anyone, whereas the first film established that he enjoys stalking as much as killing. Furthermore, the teenager subplot with prom and cheating partners felt very shoehorned in, and only done to render the granddaughter without a cell phone. I think this is easily the best Halloween sequel, and the purest rendering of Michael since the first, but it's deeply flawed and often disappointing.

    Loved Halloween 2018- such a return to form. A shame Halloween Kills (and also Halloween Ends) has been delayed, but the wait will be worth it in the end, no doubt about it. Can’t wait to see what David Gordon Green, Danny McBride and Jason Blum have done with the story this time round, and the return of the Strode women (and Myers himself) will be fucking amazing.

      @@scottylewis8124 Personally I loved Halloween Kills, they had announced that it would be a real outburst of violence from Michael Myers and they did it.
      Kills had the heavy task of making the transition with Ends and even if the scenario of Ends was revised because of the COVID I found the film particularly successful.
      Halloween 2018 laid the groundwork with the character development of Michael and Laurie as well as her family the film was centered around her, and her trauma following the events of Halloween 1978. Kills kicked off perfectly with this time a film centered on Michael Myers and the flashback scene was daunting, perfectly filmed with the colors of Carpenter's film, the mask was perfect, the atmosphere in general between the music, the children, the house of Myers, it perfectly writes his legend, that of the bogeyman.
      Michael who massacres the firefighters was enjoyable with the house on fire in the background and we can feel his anger, he lost against Laurie and narrowly escaped death even if a normal human being should have died poisoned by the smoke. Michael is truly evil incarnate, as if possessed by something diabolical.
      In Kills we also tell how he traumatized the city and how his return traumatizes them and pushes them to act anyhow, the scene of the park where they do anything, in the hospital where they pursue an innocent. I also enjoyed the treatment of Big John and Little John with the kids playing a prank on them, Michael wanting to go home, how he slaughters Cameron, that scene was perfect. The moment he chases Karen without her mask. When he is surrounded just before taking his mask back on, the atmosphere of this scene is great and very photogenic. I was a little disappointed with the clash with the crowd or I think he should have dispatched it more easily, killing one or two people should have scared the crowd away except maybe Tommy, Michael gets up despite the injuries that he suffered and that's where we understand that there is definitely no longer any humanity in this body. This film put the bogeyman into legend.
      This is why I am wary of everyone's criticism, many claim to be a fan of the franchise but are clearly not objective, this new trilogy is in my opinion the most successful and successful on all levels, I like David Gordon Green's vision and I'm excited for Halloween Ends.

      @@SausageandWine I didn't particularly like Kills. It had some high points that I enjoyed, but too many contrivances for me to look past. The lack of competence from anyone standing in MIchael's way, the lackadaisical law enforcement response, etc. I also personally enjoyed the more grounded take that this film took towards Michael, where it really treads the line between man and monster and leaves his true nature *almost* ambiguous but if you look closely enough it's clear that there's more to him than meets the eye. To suddenly force some exposition on us to the tune of "Oh yeah Michael is totally an ascended immortal being aka fear/violence/evil incarnate, didn't you know? The PTSD-stricken ramblings of Jamie Lee Curtis are telling you so!" all to the backdrop of the aforementioned contrived lynch mob scene just didn't sit well with me, personally.
      If he dispatched the lynch mob more easily I would have lost even more respect for the film.
      But to each their own. I'm glad you enjoyed it. However, you should keep in mind that a "No True Scotsman" argument is rarely the way to go. Just because someone doesn't enjoy a particular film that you did it doesn't make their arguments invalid nor does it mean that they're not a legitimate fan of the franchise. Making arguments like that poisons the well and is a form of toxic gatekeeping IMO.
      I thought Halloween 2018 was excellent. A solid 8/10 at least, with this scene in particular being phenomenal. Great acting, great cinematography, solid plot. A worthwhile addition to the franchise by any metric. Kills, in my opinion, had a few points that I found fun and legitimately did enjoy but ultimately left a sour taste in my mouth. Ends... I can't even begin to address.

    Favorite scene from the 2018 movie. Reminds me of how in the first Halloween Dr. Loomis is telling Sheriff Brackett, "Death has come to your little town, Sheriff." And then Brackett replies with "Doctor, do you know what Haddonfield is? Families. Children. All lined up in rows up and down these streets. You're telling me they're lined up for a slaughterhouse." This scene shows show Michael was going house to house down the street on his killing spree, possibly implying that more people were getting killed than those shown on screen.
