- We take a look at the Lexus GSF which often tends to be forgotten and understated.
This is a true car guy's car with typical Lexus reliability. However some of the maintenance items on this car can get expensive as we'll talk about in the video

Nicely done review, however as a GSF owner i have a few thing to add in.
1. MY 2016 does not have VAS (vehicle adaptive suspension) and they tend to last longer. MY 2017 and later has VAS
2. The GSF does not have rear wheel steering. I believe the regular 350 does (i know the RC350 does)
3. All the Carbon Fiber you saw there are cover lay by a sheet of CF and then sealed in epoxy.
4. Many of these Lexus RCF/GSF now suffer interior CF epoxy delaminating.
5. For me the insurance coverage is actually cheaper than my 2007 Acura TL 😂…. Yes i was like “how” as well.
These car are fun to drive and they knowing to be bullet proof if properly taken care.
Fun fact the GSF production run from 2016-2020. According to Lexus only 2484 units ever sold in the USA , if you own one congrats.
2016 - 1416 units sold
2017 - 482
2018 - 294
2019 - 127
Also note in MY2020 all the grey mirror and exterior door pillar are now black. Orange brake caliper option got replaced by blue caliper.
On specs sheet these car very hard to sell when new because price tag. However used market they become the best bang for your buck to buy.
Is GSF categorized as muscle car? Wish it sold more.
@@boxoffisa I wouldn’t classify as muscle car. If anything in term IMO this is a Japan M5 detuned.
The problem is when these car was new, the only way to sell it is with a big chunk of discount.
After chatting with a local GSF owner, one of them told me that he bought his 2018 GSF in atomic silver for $72k OTD back in 2018.
Unlike the ISF (basically is a skunk works vehicle, chassis not design from ground up to handle the 2UR-GSE motor).
The RCF is a 3 car that build into one, only the GSF is a dedicated platform build from the ground up to handle the 5.0 motor.
The IS500 Fsport is a left over part bins car.
So in between ISF, RCF and GSF. The GS is the rarest and last of the True F built.
I love the GSF but can't justify the used prices. I bought 2 brand new IS500s. My '22 Launch Edition IS500 & '23 IS500 for msrp from the same local Lexus dealer.

I bought a 2018 GSF with 27k miles in 2020 for under $60k and I am so glad that I bought it. It’s my daily and currently it has 71k miles and it has zero issues! I do regular maintenance by myself and it’s really easy to be taken care of. Been to 4 track days, really a fun car to drive and has no overheating problems. Looking forward to getting new set of tires, upper control arms/links, dampers and upgrading the exhaust in the future!
What maintenance are you doing on it? I’m looking to purchasing this car soon.

GSF/RCF are so underrated.
I have a 2020 RCF and love it but always wanted a GSF. We already have multiple 4 door cars so my move was the RCF. Our engines are glorious. Sounds wonderful if you slightly open it up. They are very solid cars. Everyone shits on them and says it's too slow/not fast...etc. These EASILY get to triple digit speeds no problem. And you can keep going comfortably..
Yeah but pretty much any new car can easily get to triple digit speeds. The point of these F cars was never the speed, but the overall experience.
@@CockatooDude Yeppers. Everytime I drive the F, I smile. Everytime I get out of the car and look back at it I smile. It's a fun car, and most of all just a very enjoyable experience because 90% of people don't have a clue what an RCF/GSF is, so they think it's a typical lexus and brush it off.

I own the "regular" 2015 GS F-Sport V6 variant, and it is hands down the best vehicle I've owned and still my daily driver today. Only 76k miles on it and the only maintenance I've done in my entire ownership is the routine maintenance. These cars are becoming rarer to see on the streets and I get compliments all the time and thumbs up when I pump gas or come to a red light. I often get the "Hey nice ride" Many think it's a newer model but then when I tell them it's 2015 the look on their face is priceless.
These 4th Gen GS models are what BMW was in the late 90 into the early 2000s. A true luxury sports sedan with amazing handling, steering, craftsmanship, and a smooth but quick naturally aspirated engine (inline 6 for BMW) but without all the drama and headaches. They drive like a go-cart on rails with honest road feedback, unlike 99% of cars today. I love my GS and wish Lexus could bring them back, but unfortunately, in an SUV mall parking society, we won't see them around. This generation of GS is the last of the best modern "analog feeling" sports sedans without all the frills and latest tech but simple and a damn joy to drive. Do yourself a favor and pick up a used one if you can find a clean one but you'll pay a premium today in this crazy market.
You have to be joking. The GS models do not handle well or steer well. I have owned multiple GSs. Drive like a go-cart on rails? Laughable. Drive a Cadillac ATS-V if you want to drive a sports sedan.
Nah not joking, but you must be a dumb btch and new to cars. Cadillac? Lol garbage like your mom. Learn how to drive, come back and try again girl.
Don’t get slaapped
Agreed, the handling is incredible in the early 4GS fsports. They softed up as the years went by
Haha I have a 13' F-Sport and people are mind blown when they find out it's not a 2020 every single time. It's truly hilarious 😂
This has been my dream, sort of attainable car for years, I ended getting an IS500 recently and I'm super happy with it but this thing still has a special place in my heart.
Finally!!! As a GSF owner since 2017, and a loyalty fan of your channel, this is the greatest video I’ve been waiting for!!!!!
The Japan-built Lexus ES and GS series cars from 2013-2020 are the best looking ones of those models in my opinion, just the right balance of everything inside and out.
Excellent information, the world needs more intelligent and humble mechanics like you in this world. Keep up the great work! Peace and Blessings.
This is my attainable dream car. Practicality and a gorgeous NA V8. They will only keep appreciating in value though making it hard to own in the future!
I have a 2019 GS 350. It doesn't have the fire-breathing V8 like this car but it still has plenty of power and a nice warm engine note from the V6.
This GS is brilliant. I own a 450h and it's quite simply the best car I've ever owned. In my country, where fuel is crazy expensive, a big v8 is way too expensive to run as a daily driver and therefore these GSF's are almost unobtainable.
I would love a GS 450h. Does the CVT let it down though?
@@Cust0mBuilder not in my opinion. It has more than enough grunt to coast along with low revs in normal driving. Only when you give it the beans does it start to scream at you, but it's a nice enough v6 sound. Also, it really moves when you stomp on it. I love it.

That's the exact year and model I have down here in NZ. Brilliant cars, the 3.5 still has pretty decent power. Also I believe the 3.5 has both port and direct injection, so the carbonizing issues don't exist with that motor.

Beautiful car! Thanks for featuring it. Love these kinda video reviews. Keep up the awesome work! 👏🏻
About 2400 made for North America with worldwide production totaling about 3100. They were a terrible new car car buy, but a fantastic used car bargain!
They got REALLY cheap right before Covid and then prices have gone crazy on them, but come down slightly.
Of those 2400-ish cars, over 500 of them have been totaled or have accidents on their Carfax.. i maintain the spreadsheet with all the production numbers and info!
I bought my 2017 GSF last October with 27,000 miles on it. So far just changed out the exhaust and she sounds nice!! Loved my 2014 GS 350 F-Sport but the GSF is fun as hell to drive!
The Japanese Ambassador here in Prague has a chauffeur driven Lexus GS 600h in black with provision for fender flags. It looks fantastic !
I personally love the Lexus spindle grill, it part of the appeal, you can’t mistaken if for any else.😊
I love what Lexus has done with the F Series of cars. We personally own the IS500 F Sport. From the ground up is a 'old school' sport sedan - just the way I like it. I wouldn't change a thing other than make the outside mirrors auto-fold when the lock is activated. I would imagine the GSF is just as good!
How do you like the new ISF Howard it’s a beautiful car 🚗 enjoy your Lexus the last of the great v8
@@blackpantherx4019 For me, and my wife, it is perfect combination of technology and old-school experience. It's not a sports car and it wasn't intended to be. The sound is awesome and when you need it to go, it goes! The ride is firm but not harsh. For a small car it is really quiet. It reminds me a lot of a '66 SS 396 that's quite a bit more refined. The purist will probably not like this car, but for me it is just right!
The GSF is better than the is500 when it comes to brakes, differential, interior room/quality, rarity, etc. It's a true F car.
@Ruth Noya
All the differences between the IS500 and the GS F are easily upgradable, only TVD remains unattainable.

My son is an engineer and one his colleagues took a job at Toyota . While looking at cars one that interested him w the GSF. He contacted his engineering contact a Toyota. He explained that the whole GSF car line was for testing and improvement for the rest of the company. The job he was assigned to was testing knob coatings for future Toyota products. Everything gets tested there before migrating to the rest company.

Gorgeous car for sure! I really like the finish. Thanks again for all these videos Ahmed!
Picked up a 2016 GS F this past December. Thanks for all the info. Didn't know about the rear pinion rack. Something to note regarding the insurance, I previously had a 2012 is350 F sport and my insurance only went up $10.00 a month for the same full coverage and deductibles. The GS F also has 40,000 less miles than my is350 had. I made sure it's covered as a GS F and not the GS350 F sport. Hope that helps anyone interested in one.
@musoui For a track car 💯. For comfort and technology I'll take a GS F all day. I can fit full size adults in the back. The IS rear interior is smaller than a Corolla.
@musoui My close friend is a Porsche tech. Can't ever go wrong with it for a track car. My friend owns an ISF. It's just too small for me.
@musoui Agreed. I drive both interchangeably. While the rear seating of the IS F isn't in the same league as the GS F, I don't ride in the rear, so I don't care. The IS F feels far more athletic than the GS F, and the extra 400 pounds definitely shows up in the GS F as something less than good.
@@lobuxracer You can definitely feel the weight in the GS F. It's a pig compared to the IS F.
I went from an is300 to an isf and my insurance tripled..

Hello!
First of all I would like to tell you how much I appreciate all the things you do and I only wish all mechanics were like you! Unfortunately I live in a small country in Europe (Slovenia) and we just don't have mechanics of your level. Anyway, I'm just thankful I found you and I hope you'll keep doing what you do forever! The information you give out just can't be found in other online sources so you're really really valuable to all of us.
I have recently purchased my first ever Lexus - a 2018 GS450h (2018 is the last year GS's were sold in Europe). It is a really great example - Luxury package, beige interior with bamboo inserts and triple beams. It has 80k miles and it was a first owner car, owned by a Lexus dealership owner and was only driven in summer (he had 2 other cars for winter). Of course it has full service history at Lexus dealership (however 10.000 mile interval - it's unreal to expect someone would do 5.000 mile intervals here and especially for such a rare care). You can see some pictures in the attachment.
I decided for this model because it's the only one that meets my power needs and also has a great V6 which is probably the last one I'll ever be able to have (Europe is much more strict about the emissions than US and it's hard to find anything more than 2.0 4 cylinder engine in any car).
I watched basically all of your videos (including the Q&A's) and I noticed you rarely mention 4th generation GS's generally and even less so the GS450h. That's, of course, expected, because they're very rare both in Europe and in USA. The only time you mentioned it was when you said that it was somewhat "experimental" and that it wouldn't be your choice (it was the video of best and worst Toyota/Lexus models).
My questions would be as follows:
1. What do you think about this engine (2GR-FXE)? Do they have any chronic problems? I've seen some information online about scuffing of the 5th cylinder because of a design flaw. Do you maybe know how prevalent this problem actually is? IIRC it's a problem relevant for all 2GR engines.
Is there also the timing cover leak issue on this engine?
I know they're rare engines but with your super comprehensive knowledge you might have some info anyway.
2. Is the FXE version more similar to the FSE or to the FKS? I am aware of the atkinson cycle but I'm asking more from the engine parts point of view, for example, does it have a plastic valve cover?
3. Do you maybe know if this exact D4S system also prevents carbon buildup? Because I read somewhere that the indirect injection is only used at idle (which could mean it's not as effective in preventing carbon buildup).
4. I bought 4 original Toyota filters from an original parts store (not the dealership though). 3 of them are made from orange paper and one is made from yellow paper (I understand that there was a change of materials use for the original filters). However I found that 2 of the orange filters have "TOYOTA" written on one of the ribs, but the third one DOES NOT. Did you ever encounter such a filter? Could it be fake? Just to add - I closely inspected everything you mentioned in the video about fake parts and it all looks legit, except from what I just mentioned.
I would really love your insight on this, but I do understand you're super busy :)
Thank you so much and keep up the awesome work you do!
I remember the intro of the GS-F at my dealer as a special event. in 2015. It was a truly exceptional car.
I owned a 2010 IS-F and followed up with a 2020 RC-F, these cars were simply a joy to drive. And the exhaust not was awesome.

I'm interested in the IS500 and came here to hear about long term GSF costs as many of the underpinnings are the same. Brakes are smaller on the IS500 thankfully, but a worthwhile OEM+ option are ISF calipers as they are 6 pot. GSF lower control arm bushes are another OEM+ item that are easy to do.
The front axle between the IS500 and the GS F is pretty much the same.
The rear axle needs some little work. Wish there were some 3rd party TVD options.

AMD, Love your videos! A few points,
First, to my surprise my insurance only went up around $20 a month when I replaced my TRD Camry with a low mileage 2016 GS-F.
Second, front brakes can be replaced for around $300 on rock auto using quality parts. (Brembo pads with sensors and dynamic friction coated rotors)
Rears can be had for around $280 on rock auto as well using the same brand parts as the front
The car is very DIY friendly, much more so than it’s German competition! It’s worth mentioning that the torque vector modules on the sides of the rear diff actually take WS trans fluid and should be serviced regularly!
My 2000 GS400, also a hidden gem.

I just traded my GS for an LX570.It was a great car for the 6 years I owned it. I always wanted to get a GS-F. I was lucky enough to drive them, and the RC-F, and the LC at Laguna Seca a few years ago. Such a great engine, and car.
Good to know about Lexus quality 👍 👍
I didn't know they were true quads. I thought they were fake like the ISF ones. Very cool!
I've owned a 2017 for 2 years. Had zero issues. Brake pads are super easy to change and imo should be changed with aftermarket pads. OEM leave heavy amounts of brake dust. Other than that....👌
I have the 2016 Lexus GSF in Canada and it looks exactly as the model above, minus the plastic pieces located on the middle of the doors. A couple of differences which is cool is that the Canadian edition has rear seat controls in the back. It controls the rear seat heating and radio so my kids change change the station and volume. On the front console the carbon fibre is replaced with carbon fibre reinforced polymer which has a different look, more like marble. Also the trunk is powered and there is a close button. Other than that I think it is the same.
I have a 2011 Toyota Highlander and I change the brakes every 1.5 - 2 years and it costs about $500 for pads and rotors. I got my GSF in 2019 for 60k CAD with about 80,000 kms (60,000 miles) at an exotic car dealer. It is at 105,000 kms now. I missed out on a slightly used 2016 Blue GSF with 6,000 kms for $66,000 CAD from a Lexus dealer, which would have been amazing back then. I just replaced the transmission oil and Lexus reported that the front pads still have 8mm and the rear have 6 mm and I've never changed them yet. It will be expensive but I think since they are so meaty and I don' drive with such a lead foot and heavy on the brakes (like my wife in the highlander), they are actually costing me less since I've never had to do them yet.
Insurance wise, they are charging me the same as the Lexus GS since I guess there are so few of these models to base the rates off of, so it's about $100/mth here which is actually pretty cheap (for Canada). As another owner mentioned it has the regular original suspension, not the variable one, but I like it as it's sporty and firm, but not hard and unpleasant. My previous car was a manual IS 250 from 2006, so it's quite the upgrade for me and this model fits my wife and 3 kids now in the back where the IS 250 was too small in the rear.
When I got the car I also had some ceramic coating applied so it looks good after each hand wash. Overall so far it's an amazing car. One mf my favourite features is the Mark Levinson stereo which sounds amazing. It always makes me want to spend more time in the car. I've never seen another GSF on the road, only a few GS 350s which makes it feel special.
This is car I don't think I will sell as it is so special and probably one of the kids will get it when they are older, and I'm dead :)
