After being tired of takimg my BMW to a mechanic almost every month I bought a GS350. Solid 100k miles not a single issue. Then upgraded to an ISF and now own a RCF. Not a single issue. Run like a sewing machine. No worries no weird sounds no rattles.

@s l u always remember things that left a good or bad impression on you in the past. I had the bad one. Not only I lost a ton of money in resale value during my ownership, my BMW was in the shop once a month. Bmws drive nice but build quality is trash. Way to much plastic use. Things get brittle due to heat cycles and it is nothing but issues after that. Good luck with your german cars. I am not going to throw back the hate at you🙏. I do like 5.5 ltr AMGs they are most reliable of the bunch.

What's plaguing these new Lexus reviews (GS-F, RC-F, LC500) is the fact that Lexus isn't trying to build rivals. It's a LEXUS FIRST, THEN a sport sedan. Meaning traditional Lexus values trump performance for a better package/experience. It does everything very well but few things exceptionally.

There is no doubt that the Germans make spectacular luxury and luxury performance cars. Great technology and performance is guaranteed with German cars, however there is something else that is guaranteed, electronic issues and quality issues coupled with reliability issues. Sure, some people won't care, they lease these cars and give the shitty end of the stick to the next owner.
Lexus on the other hand, well different story. You get reliability, quality build and sportiness. Sure they don't have an output compared to their counterparts, but the benefit of the quality and reliability exceed the cost of power. If you want to push your car on a consistent basis and not sweat over all of the color warning lights that will populate your instrument cluster withing a year or two, buy a Lexus performance vehicle (Or Japanese performance vehicle in general).

My 2000 LS430 is well clear of the 2 ton mark yet its a hoot to drive, and even on 20s and lowered suspension, it still drives like a magic carpet. Plus you know you're getting Toyota reliability when you buy a Lexus, and in 10 years, a GSF will still be ticking along quite happily while an F10 M5 will be having hernias left right and centre when a sensor decides to take a dump

One thing i can say Carmanu is that i don't think Han Li is speaking the truth in regards to owning A 2017 M5. Apparently it is factual that you don't know anything about prudently evaluating an automobile. Here are the key information stated by the Top Gear representative in regards to the Lexus: (1) The driving position is absolutely spot on(6:18 to 6:23). (2) It also has the best seats that i has driven in the last five years (6:24 to 6:35). (3) The normally aspirated engine is excellent (6:40 to 7:16) and (8:53 to 9:13). (4) The suspension in regards to ride and handling is much better than the BMW (8:11 to 8:29). (5) The steering is much better, he also feel much more confident when turning into a corner (8:29 to 8:44) . (7) Visibility is much better (8:45 to 8:52). (8) It drives better than the BMW even when the traction control is off which means the balance of the vehicle is spot on (9:27 to 10:01). (9) Braking is excellent (9:53 to 9:56). Only thing this BMW has against this vehicle is just the power which is a disadvantage to the car itself.

BMW undoubtedly is probably the better drive, by a huge amount I don't think so. Lexus wouldn't feel that much off. However my personal experience with some friends with BMW's and one friend in particular has bought a few BMW's over time diesel and petrol. Both had issues. You could argue lack of maintenance. However, if he took my Lexus is250 and just changed the oil once and didn't bother servicing for a couple of years it will start and act faultless.
If I was rich I'd buy the BMW. If I had my own garage and could service my own cars I'd take a BMW maybe. Lexus cars are fantastic though. The V6 engine, smooth and reliable. If I'm not gonna be rich anytime soon and I want safety I'm sticking with Lexus. I'll try the RX one day

Yup, I've got a 12 year old GS460 - it still looks and feels as good as when it was new - no drop in performance, no oil leaks, no mysterious clouds emerging from the tailpipes - every single thing on it still works, everything looks and feels amazing still. Equivalent BMW would be a 550i - which after 12 years is a ticking time bomb if it hasn't already had serious engine and electrical issues that would write the car off mechanically. BMW don't build anything to last anymore - for Lexus, it's part of the DNA of the brand.

I have never driven a 600 hp car, but I drive a 500 hp, rear wheel car every day, and I could use some more power. But agreed, 4 wheel drive may be needed to put down 600 hp, I have no idea of knowing this for sure tho. M5 and my SL55 cars are built for autobahn, English country roads are best left to MX5 and maybe Morgans, there is nothing to do there with 500 or 600 hp. But in ice and slush? lol. Even in the rain, I don't go faster than 130 kmh on straight road, because the wider the rear tires, the worse the my 500 bhp rear wheel drive gets in slippery conditions. But this road in Harris' video, in snow and ice? What next, take F1 car there, and then complain the car has too much power? Cars have their place, F1 belongs to perfect surface race track because it has 800 hp. The review is so useless. Take the cars to Berlin, and drive to Munchen, and then drive it to Rome, then tell which is better. English LOVE their country roads, I get that, but to bitch that M5 isn't all that great for these roads is idiotic. Again, take these cars to bahn, where they belong!

What an hones review man you are my hero. I know people will hate you because you said that Lexus is better than M5 haha but that is reality. Too much power in M5 and it is useless for everyday driving.

Test drove 2 BMWs. The M3 E46 & the E60 M5. It has the power of course but not the reliability. This review makes me want to have a Lexus all over again maybe that sexy GSF bc I may not have the performance of the M cars but quality & reliability will always be there.

Tirah5 I appreciate this response, you are probably right. Without Top Gear we might not have seen /Drive and then we might not have the Chris Harris we know today. But I do stand by my point, it's just a shame how childish the internet is.

Old Top gear in my opinion was just entertainment for non car guys. I remember being around guys who really weren't into cars loving top gear and this is what was great about it. But I felt like I was watching car a kids show. People used to ask me how come you don't watch it your a car guy. I can't say much about this guy except from this video and I like his review.

Harris nails the GS's greatest virtue. It is simply a pleasure to drive. If BMW is the ultimate driving machine, the Lexus may just be the ultimate in driving pleasure. I don't have the words to describe this quality. It's just something you have to experience, and for at least an hour or two. GS350, GS F Sport or GS F, they all drive really, really well. Credit the GS platform.

I own an ISF and went on a cruise with an M4, E60 M5 and an S7 last week in identical conditions to this. Can confirm that the M4 driver was not having fun and wasn't particularly fast. He admitted nearly crashing it a few times but the power delivery is just too spiky. He really wasn't having fun. I was all over the back of him and not once did I feel that the car was going to bite me. The ISF is awesome.

I have seen this video for at least 10 times and together with SavageGeese V8 Redemption video, these two mainly convinced me that GS F is the greatest daily supersedan to own and possibly ever created. I bought it and never ever looked back :-) Love it. The BMW M5 is superb, I have huge respect for it but GS F is just better for me. And original, reliable... You should really try and be amazed after longer drive in it. That sound, feel and also practical living with it (of course sedan somlimits are there but 2 kids with ease ;-) ). I had to move from IS F because the 2nd child. My wife is tolerant so I was able to.go into another crazy daily car ;-). Surprised how easy you can live with the GS F though.

closedcl8 Moral of the story, if you want an M5 (a fast, and fun to drive sedan), look for one of the previous generations of M5. The F10 has better power, but in every other area of driving, the newer car is just a massive disappointment.

Honestly if I had the money I'd get one instead of an M5/E63. There are like 10 GS F on sale in Germany for about 60-70k€. They are truly unicorns on german streets compared to AMG/M which you see on almost every corner. Sure the interior and tech does not compare to the germans but I don't really care about that anyway. Only thing I'd maybe rather get is the new M3 if it actually will be available with the manual + rwd

My GS Lexus F sport is a true pleasure to drive. Mine is hybrid V6 so it's extremely smooth and powerful. The downside is the extra weight. Not so nimble on mountain roads, excellent on a road trip. Gotta respect the physical limits of the extra weight.
