There’s a weird zen-like bliss to watching a Megaman TAS. Well any TAS really, knowing that every single frame and input has purpose.

I like how the HP bar to a TASer is more like a "how many damage boosts you get" meter, since you can avoid all damage with ease anyway.

Excellent playthrough my man. I am especially fond of your balloon jumping into the center of the boss rooms when you beat them.
It's to make the weapon get sequence shorter. Normally Mega Man will walk to the center of the room from where he was standing when the boss was killed, then jump. By using the balloon, he skips this process.

As if the Pharaoh Shot weren't already at a near-Metal Blade level of usefulness, I learned today that it's insanely good against any boss that isn't outright immune to it with how fast it charges up to do a guaranteed 3 damage. Dang, dude.

You know, Wily went to all that effort to rebuild the Robot Masters for his awesome boss rush, and Mega Man just skips it by phasing into a wall and through the floor. How ungrateful!

How to speedrun mega man game
1. Go for the master that weapon can rekt EVERYTHING
2. Make mega man become a phantom and clip through walls
3. Spam Slide Buster Weapon Etc

I remembered farming 7 E-cans just so I can beat the boss Dive man when I was a kid, and now people beat him just as I finished drinking a cup of water. That's insane lol

Iv just clocked this game myself on the 3ds Megaman Legacy Collection in 2hr 17 minutes here in the year 2020 and thought to myself. I wonder how fast someone on youtube has done it. So iv just watched your complete playthrough with a coffee and cheese and ham sandwich ( im old ) and you have seriously put me to shame. Fantastic work dude

Someone needs to explain this one to me... How is it that, only NOW, after all these years, we somehow figured out that jumping into the weapon absorption zone will trigger it prematurely and save time? The Wily Stage thing, I can understand not knowing about, but you'd think someone would have tried the weapon get thing just for laughs at some point.

I think it had to do with the fact that you got locked after you beat the boss, and people were trying to figure out how to bypass it
I find it hilarious how he uses the balloon to avoid the cutscene.

From a development standpoint it would seem certain bosses like the giant Met are actually background tiles (since they are still there in silhouette when destroyed as the screen flashes.) Yet they move incredibly smoothly during gameplay. I would have expected them to shift abruptly to the next 16×16 pixel section. How did they achieve this I wonder?
You're right that they're on the background layer. The game uses the NES's background scrolling capability to move them smoothly (the same way the game scrolls from one room to another). This is the reason why the background during these boss fights is one solid color - so the scrolling isn't obvious. To complete the effect, the screen is split at the bottom using a scanline interrupt so the floor doesn't get scrolled too.
Super clever stuff.
Why balloons and dogs don't work in same way in real world? Just imagine, you could rob a bank by just using a single balloon.

How do you skip the hippo like that? When I’m free handing no tas it freezes me on the balloon. Even if I manage to get on rush jet on the hippo screen it won’t let me pass....wtf?!
The only stage that I can imagine that gave this player any issue was the auto-scrolling stage. And there's no speedrunning something that forces you to go at it's own pace.

this SE uses the balloon item as if it were the escalation of megaman X, I think that from megaman 7 onwards until 11, they should have already removed the Rush item, and implemented the passive skills of megaman X, climb walls do speed dash, if they follow the saga and if they make a megaman 12 that those skills are already by default and get megaman X 9
