I'm slightly miffed that Kiyone and Sentarou were split up. They were a fun pair, but maybe we can find out what they can do.
I still think Hisagi should be captain with the whole showing of kensei being very underwhelming and over taken so easily while we see the true power of hisagi within the Light Novels and now this is 10 years later from The light novels in which Hisagi could master his newly acquired Bankai by now.

Yammamoto represented the old and outdated ways. Shunsui represents change and the new soul society. I would rather have shunsui as a leader then old man yammamoto to be honest.

The addition of Akon was such a good choice. I feel like he had a bigger role than some of the lieutentants in certain niche situations. Fits very well to be Mayuri's lieutenant too.
He kinda was basically the Lieutenant even before Nemuri Nanago died. A lot of division management seemed like more his wheelhouse.
Akon was always mayuri’s true lieutenant. Nemu was an experiment.
Nemu was Mayuri's in field vice captain, Akon dealt with administrative things that Mayuri didn't like dealing with (which was probably most of them).
With Nemu dead, and her new self too young, Akon was the obvious choice.

Renji wants to remain under Byakuya and stay his lieutenant, because he respects him so much. In a flashback, Renji had a talk with Ikkaku about this long ago. Its the same reason why Ikkaku, despite learning Bankai long ago, doesent want to go for being a Captain, he wants to stay under Kenpachi, the man he respects.
Renji is still a bum
With several lieutenants having bankai after the point Ikkaku said that, either having already had it or learned it shortly after it really shows what Ikkaku's problem was and why he would never be captain material. He didn't want promoted out from under Kenpachi but never considered just turning down the position, and he essentially lost his bankai forever out of his own stubbornness. When instead, showing his power level would have made him more qualified to take on the difficult fights he craved. He wouldn't have had to settle for only those Kenpachi deemed too weak to be worth fighting.
Renji and Byakuya are brothers in law...never thought i'd see the day...
@@Dogmaguy74I wonder if the first Captain Kuchiki, knows something about the second Captain Kuchiki's husband. I note, she hasn't taken his name. I speculate that there's something about Renji's blood, that Kuchiki hasn't revealed to Renji--but Rukia knows. After all, Renji gained his (half-assed) bankai, without much effort--relatively speaking.
Might he come from the line of the unknown noble family? Hence Ichika being able to see the Hell creatures, sooner than anybody else.
@@Prinxce3_The same Renji who’s now top 10 in the verse? I doubt like any other Lieutenant, and also most Captains, could be Mask de Masculine.
Really wished Hanataro had become lieutenant of the 4th division. I feel it would have been such satisfying progression of a character we’ve been with and gotten to know since the SS arc.

Her new bankai makes her more than worth imo
Rukia should be the obvious fan favorite new Captain but my personal new favorite is Lisa. Her dynamic with the other Vizard as well as being Kyoraku's former lieutenant gives her a lot of story to build off of. Her personality has also always been one of my favorites.
Edit: and just on pure appearance her new Lieutenant looks very different from anyone else in the series so I am excited to see what she can do

Mayuri is one of the MVP indeed in TYBW. I think the new set of Captains and vice captains are well picked. Love that akon was promoted but yeah..hisagi can easily be a captain now.. well lets see if kubo can really show their skills.

I mean you can’t really blame them for thrashing. Her captain position came out of nowhere. She’s never had an actual fight. The release command of her blade implies it’s ice related.
@@earlvaughan-williams3835 She’s also kind, compassionate, has a quirky personality and a really cool design. Isane’s my favorite character in the series, but yeah, Kubo did her super dirty. No flashbacks, no character arcs, no nothing.
Kubo could give her an actual purpose in the Hell Arc, but I severely doubt it. However, I still have a fool’s hope because she’s my favorite.

Still, I do want to see more of her as a character and as a fighter.
@@CaptainKotetsuTbh I think she'll have to have a huge healing role, something that fits her quirky sometimes calm energetic but also dilligent personality.
Like she can't just be "healer but good" or "healer but attacks", those styles are taken by Orihime, and Hanataro respectively.
She could have something like Unohanna's shikai for her bankai, taking on a manta-ray form, but working like Tsunade's slugs. Essentially being easy portable healers. It gives her healing a range and can work on multiple people at once, it reflects Unohanna's influence and by being small but always healing, reflects the dilligence we saw of her in the TYBW.

I'm so happy that Rukia is finally a captain. I love that we were able to see her go from an unseated officer all the way to a captain. I'm still holding out hope that they animate We Do Knot Always Love You.
One tidbid that wasn't mentioned, Iba's first lieuntant was the 4th Division's 3rd Seat Yasochika Iemura. Iba picked him for his medical abilities to help his individual training after becoming captain. He then transferred back with persuasion by Hanataro. Also found it weird how the 8th Division disappears the rest of the war, in TYBW anime, we do see their 3rd Seat, Tatsufusa Enjoji at Chojiro's funeral, wonder what he was doing in the war.
Well, after the whole 1st division got massacred before the first invasion and after Yamamoto's death, due to Shunsui becoming the next captain commander the whole division 8th basically assumed the role of the 1st division. And well, is not like Kubo ever gives focus to non-captain non-lieutenant shinigami

I really wish Kubo would have brought Love back as captain of Squad 7 with Iba as the vice captain. Love being the only Vizard captain not brought back is just weird and Iba doesn’t seem fit to be the captain. It’s unfortunate because the new vice captain of Squad 7 seems cool. Really excited to see what Kubo does with the Hell arc.
Idk Iba trained Ikkaku and Yumichika to be Kenpachi's senior seats, similar to how Ikkaku trained Renji. It's also implied he had Bankai aslong as Ikkaku though he never used it. (well he had to for the Captain test) but for us to see.
I agree, but I see the probable reason as to why Love is left behind: His Zanpakutō Tengumaru.
Tengumaru is a Fire Type like Ryūjin Jakka, which would have just led to comparisons against Yamamoto.
Iba and Rindo are an opportunity to do something new, but Love just invites comparison to the past.
@@Sicarius_Avindar And i always felt like Love was enamored with the human world with the way he's designed (especially his latest Design by Kubo, looks so fresh). Him, Hachigen and the rest of the visoreds on Earth basically make up a sort of Gotei but for the living realm. It'd be cool if Isshin/Ryuken are sort of the leader of that group.

Let’s try not to talk sh*t about this group of captains being weak until we actually see them do something.
It’s been ten years; that’s an eternity when it comes to power growth in Bleach. Look what Renji achieved in a few days during the Soul Society arc.
But, part of me thinks it’s pointless to consider growth for the weaker characters anyway. In classic Kubo fashion, it’s gonna be the same handful of characters that get all the action and story. Kenpachi, Byakuya, Mayuri, Renji, Rukia, Toshiro, etc. Everyone else can just stay home.

I believe that's the exact amount of time it's been stated to master Bankai as well so they more than likely got new power ups as well

Also, most people there with Bankai may or may not have already mastered them to their fullest so we probably would get to see Hakka no Togame, Soo Zabimaru, etc fully mastered and more powerful than before.
Doesn’t matter how strong they are, Ichigo will save them regardless…
I really wanted to see Ukitake Bankai hopefully Kubo show's us in the Hell Arc if he's the leader or if they have to fight him in general.

Considering that when a shinigame die their asauch turn into a blanc sword again, i think the way they power manifest in hell may be a little diferent, one thing is sure (well should be at least) former shinigames in hell don't have zampakuto "souls"
Although several of the old gotei 13 captains and lieutenants have become much stronger, the newer captains have a lot to prove against the undead captains when the hell arc resumes. Isane, Lisa, and Iba didn’t really do much the entire series. We already know by this point rukia has mastered her new Bankai. I absolutely love Kubo’s new designs for these characters especially Byakuya. The new touches to Soi fon were cool too and I didn’t quite notice them. Izuru looks like a beast.

One thing that I really wish they would do with the hell arc is to let us know what is the status of the current leadership of the Kido Corps. Originally Tessai was captain and Hachigen was lieutenant. After both had left the soul society throughout the entirety of the series, we never became aware of who is the current captain and lieutenant of the Kido Corps. it would be something to see the both of them back at their posts or at least see who is running the squad now It’s interesting how they in a way, or like the squad 14 but we know little to nothing about them

Badly want to know about the Kido Corps as well, because like many others have said, including our Tommo here before, no one using any kido during the TYBW against the Quincy not only made no sense but was just a glaring omission that still is confusing really. If they were disbanded, at least that's something but when exactly?
I believe it got dissolved and absorbed into Squad 5.
@@kakashihatake1029 no it is still active because in episode 366 when Ichigo was taking Ginjo’s body back to the world of the living to be buried members of the Kido Corps were there and moving the body as well as setting up the portal back to the world of the living, which Ichigo passed through so I believe that the division is still active it’s just that we don’t know what’s going on with them right now or what its current leadership structure is and also I do think that they probably do somewhat autonomously from the Gotei 13

For those who don’t know, the “side ponytail mom” is a trope where that hairstyle, a ponytail covering a shoulder, is common among mother figures who have died in screen. Some examples are the Elric and Jeager mothers

Akon probably deserves more than most. He contacted urahara and ichigo and made sure ichigo arrived. All the while knowing his capt could kill him for going over his head.
I still say Captain Komamura was done dirty in the blood war. I don't feel he would have chosen the path he did and it was something of a character assasination.
I mean…he did say he’d give his life for yamamoto.
But, id rather see Sajin try to go for vengeance, only to be stopped by shuuhei, who reminds him this is what tousen did. That way shuuhei can do something.

Thank you so much for this! I haven't finished watching the thousand years arc but I am glad that almost everything turned out to be ok. It is bittersweet to have the new roster of captains and vice captains but this is an interesting progression in the story line and they are all cool! I'll forever mourn the loss of the few fallen captains. As for my favorite officer/captain/vice-captain/shingami, they all are!

If Kubo decides not to continue Hell arc, I hope we at least get some official novels continuing Hell arc. Hopefully the new content for the TYBW anime shows what some of these characters can do. Lisa and Iba’s zanpaktou abilities are still unknown. And I want Soi Fon to properly show off her flash step techniques and Mukyu Shunko against Gerald. Let my girl go off!

All of these new characters style and characteristics really put Kubo in different league of mangaka. Seriously , how on earth that he can makes bunch of characters much cooler than their previous style design even for those who now become parents like ichigo and renji. They all look awesome but at the same time still original by Kubo's design which make the readers can differentiate them from other manga or anime. Look at Isane , from an unconfident girl who in tallest-in-class trope , but now looking as happy-go-lucky pretty onee-san and a confident captain. They all have their own flair and readers can tell in a second "Yup, this is Bleach character"
Renji was a lieutenant when he was introduced, but he was only just promoted, say a few weeks ago. That line where he said he had to wear his badge for the first time, it was the first time he had to wear it mandatorily. Before then, he hadn’t needed to perhaps aside from his promotion, maybe
As I remember, he wore the badge at the lieutenant's meeting where it was announced that the ryoka had continued their penetration of the Sereitei. It's a nice throwback moment from Kubo.
10th Division has been my favourite from the start and it still is. Toshiro with the timeskip hair and the pre-timeskip style looks good despite me enjoying the green scarf. At least the hair stayed which I am very glad about and Matsumoto looks as fine as ever,

I just want him to come back and show off some werewolf magic. Quincy, fullbringers, and hollows have their spirit abilities. Werewolves should be no different. With his shinigami powers gone, Komamura will have to rely on them.

One thing is for sure: it will be interesting seeing how the current Gotei 13 stacks up when pitted against the OG's return in the Hell Arc when comparing it to not only their strength from Soul Society-beginning of the TWB arcs and the lineup from 100 years ago (the Turn Back the Pendulum arc).

I would love for them to do some kind of ritual during the hell arc for Rangiku, that essentially restores the potential she lost because of Aizen. It would give her a much-needed power upgrade and finally show her the respect she deserves. Especially because she usually just shows up looking more stunning than before, with no actual benefit other than looking nice.
That would be nice Rangiku has proven herself worth of Lt.

@@allPodd It's part of Gin's and Rangiku's back story. The reason why Gin decided to join/kill Aizen is because Rangiku was born with a part of the soul king in her, and when Aizen made the Hogyoku attacked Rangiku and took the part of the soul king from her. Technically Rangiku should be much stronger since a part of her soul is missing, and it was supposed to be a plot point in TYBW but Kubo never got to it.

I really hope that Rojuros bankai has "evolved". It would really be cool that you could no longer stop it by becoming deaf, because it’s a sound wave. Your body would still "hear" (feel the waves), and so it would still affect you (maybe to a smaller degree).

Fairly certain Renji was a Lieutenant during the Substitute Shinigami arc. He mentions during his second fight with Ichigo that Gentai Kaijo was a thing and thus his and Byakuya's power was cut. This is implying he id at least lieutenant class.

Hey mr tommo. First thing is i love your content keep up the great work. I have a question for u that you may be able to make into a video and that is where do you rank kiskue, yoroichi and ichigos father in strength among other shinigami? Yes we get kiskue is one of the great war potentials but i dont think ive ever seen anyone rank them directly in strength to other shinigami. Its an interesting thought since aizen 1 shots the majority of the gotei 13 in the fake karakura town arc but he actually fights with them for a decemt amount of time and none of them get fully taken out. U can make the arguement that both sides werent going all out but i do believe the fact that aizen one shots the gotei but actually does battle with them for a time frame does mean their power has to be somewhat higher on the scale. This question also doesnt factor once we add on improved strength levels for the quincy arc but i do think its an imteresting topic still cause 2 of the 3 we still havent seen a bankai for till this day and those same 2 are also royal family members

So yeah, how does the new captain heal, what's the other squad 0 bankai, does the head captain have other "plays", we saw their spirits in the filler arc so what did Rangiko or [the execution square blade] bankai do, will Mayuri alter his bankai again etc.
Even the hell captains could release stuff, ukitakke bankai for example or the original 13

I saw someone theorize that Yuyu Yayahara's zanpakto/shikai are her NAILS as there was a fair amount of emphasis placed on them in the shot when she attacks. Idk if this is the case, but it would make sense considering that the other new vice captain, Atau seems to have very unique zanpakto, maybe hers is just very unique as well!

im pretty sure they stated that during the soul society arc lieutenants werent required to where their badges prior to the invasion by ichigo and his allies. i dont remember specifically, and it might have been after aizen "died" but i remember them talking about how all lieutenants were going to be required to wear them from that point forward

The app i m using for manga says this hell arc vol. Was released in 2022, but we re already in 2024 and it kinda ends ina cliff hanger with all the hell and ritual stuff

I’m pretty confident in this version of the Gotei 13 mainly due to their heavy hitters. I’m a little concerned because they lack depth and a lot of the vice captains and some captains are on the weak side or we don’t know what they do. Overall if the Hell arc ever goes down it’ll be exciting to see the heavy hitters back in action
Who do you consider as the heavy hitters? For me I think they would be Shunsui, Byakuya, Renji, Hitsugaya, Zaraki, and perhaps Rukia considering her bankai.
