- What are all the things that you need to know other than scans during pregnancy?
1. First three months: The first three will be your first visits to your doctor. And your gynecologist will ask for a complete blood count to check your hemoglobin level to find out if you have anemia.
2. Thyroid levels: THS is the thyroid stimulating hormone, and if the mother has increased levels of THS, it could even affect the baby’s mental development. The ideal THS levels should be around 2.5 to 3.
3. Sugar levels: many patients are only diagnosed with diabetes during pregnancy when their sugar levels are tested randomly. Fasting sugar levels and post-parandial sugar levels, which are 1.5 to 2 hours after eating, and along with that, hpa1c average 3 month sugar levels are extremely important.
4. HIV, HVSAG, which is hepatitis, VDRL: It is important to check if you have any sexually transmitted diseases.
5. Blood grouping and typing: the mother’s blood group is very impotent. If her blood group is positive, then there are no issues. But if she has a negative blood group, then we have to check the father’s blood group too. So if the mother is negative and the father is positive, we need to do another blood test called the ICT (indirect Coombs Test).
Apart from all these blood tests, urine tests also need to be done to check for any urine infections.
So these are the baseline tests, which are done during the first 3 months of pregnancy.
