  • How to maximize Embryo Freezing survival 👊🏽
    .
The above embryo is being collapsed manually using lazer assisted hatching. We do this to remove the fluid inside the cavity and to reduce the size of them embryo. The reason for this is to decrease the chances of ice crystal formation and to increase survival of the embryo
    .
You can see the start to finish appearance of the embryo is completely different and many patients having had an FET always ask me why does my blastocyst look different to the ones you post. This is because you are seeing the embryo in its compacted shape, and i explain to them that it takes a few hrs of reexpansion till the embryo returns back to its original size/shape
    .
Collapsing blastocysts is standard practice in our lab bc we find that survival is very high and this is a large component of that. If too much fluid is left inside the chances of ice forming is increased and those crystals amount to cell death ie not good news!
    .
I will announce the details of my AMA in a short while today so keep your eyes peeled :)
