    I've been stuck at this spot in my journey for a while now, and I'm kicking myself for how simple it actually is (conceptually I mean) LOL. Honestly I'm pretty sure I've heard the concept of unity between keys explained before in different ways but your explanation finally made it make sense to me. I went and practiced the idea with relative minors and it finally clicked. Thank you so much! I'm finally excited to practice again.

    It’s really frustrating.

    • @maxkonyi
      @maxkonyi  Před 2 lety +2

      This is very dependent on the style of music and artist in question, not to mention the listener. I can't really define a good verse vs chorus melody objectively. Instead, I'd suggest analyzing some of your favourite songs that you think DO have good distinction between verse and chorus melodies. Perhaps there is something in the rhythm or melodic intervals that you feel defines one or ther other. I'd be curious to hear...

    • @maxkonyi
      @maxkonyi  Před 2 lety

      Many beats won't have a dedicated chorus per se. You can simply make one through the use of your voice or chop and rearrange the stems as you like. There's no need to follow the normal song structure! So feel free to abandon chorus's altogether 😜

    Dear Sir Max, Greetings !
    I am thinking of taking your music theory course on EUDEMY.
    I am a bassist and listen to MESHUGGAH and want to know if i could write dissonant arrangements like them or close to them after your course. Ron Jarzombek etc......thats the direction i wanna take....
    Also do we need to know how to read music? Cuz i cant.....and i suck at bass but my will power will get me through.
    Thank you for everything

    • @maxkonyi
      @maxkonyi  Před rokem +1

      Hello!
      My course will not help too much in writing this kind of music honestly. I also love metal and have written a lot of it but am often not using much theory when doing it. The best way to practice is by learning to play a bunch of your favourite songs on bass or guitar, analyzing them, and then trying to create similar things yourself.
      Over time, this will lead to an intuitive sense of how the music flows, what works, and what doesn't. Learning music theory will certainly give you new ideas though and I generally do recommend it!

    Isn't the 5 chord of the Emin scale a Bmin? At around 27:25 min you change the Amin from the progression of Gmaj to B7 saying that you are borrowing the fifth chord of Emin so you can start a progression in Emin. Did I get it right or am I missing something? Really interesting lesson by the way!

    • @maxkonyi
      @maxkonyi  Před 2 lety +3

      You're definitely right. When speaking diatonically, the five-chord is Bmin. However, it's very common for the five-chord to be major/dominant in a minor key because it has a stronger pull to the tonic. It's so common that I simply assume it most of the time!

    I have started to understand, that you can describe how these things work, and upon explanation it sometimes is obvious, but at the end of it all, these things come about because a person has a knack and a good ear, and all the intellectualization and explanation wont help anyone to achieve it.

      Though I 100% agree that, in the end, a person's musical vision (knack and ear) is the indisputable most important element, I also feel conceptual frameworks can be very helpful. "We unify them by Key" lol oh man if only you knew that music is apart of the mysteries of mythology. It's why there's 12 Greco-Roman Pantheons, why Jesus had 12 disciples, it's why there's 12 numbers on a clock, it's why there's 12 months in a year. Most can't see the truth that the zodiac diagram came from the circle of 5ths and the circle of 5ths reveals a ordered universe because the Perfect 5th is the dominant note of the scale and is the golden ratio or proportion Phi. We call it a Power Chord because you're hearing the mathematical constant Phi. Key is how you pronounce the Greek Chi which is the letter X. Do you know why we call the greek alphabet the Alpha and Omega for the Alphabet and Numbers? Even English is encompassed by the A and zerO. The letter X is also the number 10 and is why we say Xmas.
