Liquid soap making from Recycled Cooking Oil │ 폐 식용유로 물비누 만들기

Our family made a new year’s feast for the Korean New Year in January.
There was a lot of cooking oil that was used to make the food, so I decided to make soap out of the used cooking oil.
Usually, used cooking oil is used to make solid soap.
However, I wanted to utilize the oil in a unique way, so I made liquid soap out of them.
I made it some time ago when I was studying to get a soap making license.
After that, I haven’t made liquid soap for years.
I had to read and study from the books I studied from back then, and also did a lot of research.
A few youtube videos especially were helpful in this research. These are the links to those videos.

The used cooking oil that I used for the soap didn’t smell that much of food so I could use it for the dishwasher.
I believe it could be used for washing dishes by hand too.

※ Let's start with the things to be cautious about.
1. Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) is highly alkalic. Please ensure you put on your gloves, safety glasses, and mask at all times to prevent any burns.
2. Please put KOH into the liquid. Not other way around. (KOH = Solute, Liquid = Solvent)
3. Do not touch the soap mixture with bare hands.
4. The finished liquid soap cannot be used immediately. It can be used two weeks later.

지난 1월, 한국에서는 음력 새해를 맞이하여 저희 집에서도 명절음식을 많이 만들었답니다.
음식을 하면서 사용된 식용유의 양이 많아서 폐 식용유를 비누로 만들어 사용하기로 했어요.
일반적으로 폐 식용유로는 흔히 고체비누를 만드는데
저는 조금 더 다양하게 활용하고 싶어서 액체비누로 만들어봤어요.
예전에 비누와 관련된 자격증을 준비할 때 만들어보고 몇년동안 만들지 않아서
다시 책을 읽어보고 그 당시에 공부했던 자료들을 총 동원하고, 여러 자료들을 많이 찾아보았습니다.
특히 유튜브에서 정말 많이 도움이 되었던 자료가 있었는데

제가 사용했던 폐 식용유에는 음식냄새가 별로 나지 않아서
식기세척기에도 무난하게 사용이 가능했습니다.

※비누 만들기 전 주의사항
1. 가성가리는 강알칼리성 물질이므로 환기가 잘 되는곳에서 작업을 하시고,
반드시 장갑과 안경, 마스크를 착용하여 화상을 입지 않도록 주의하셔야 합니다.
2. 반드시 액체에 가성가리를 넣으셔야 합니다.
반대로 넣으실 경우 내용물이 튀어 화상의 위험이 있습니다.
3. 비누반죽은 강알칼리성 상태이므로 절대 맨손으로 만지지 마세요.
4. 완성된 액체 비누는 2주 뒤에 사용이 가능합니다.

Any reason why u add sugar?

If you add sugar, you will get stable results for making soap. Also, soaps with added sugar are known to lather well.

영상감사합니다. 제가 딱 찾던 레시피예요!! 저도 만들어볼려고하는데 액체비누 만드신후에 보관은 어떻게 하시나요??
크록팟이 작아서 2가지 방법으로 보관을 했어요.
덩어리는 반찬통으로 잘 알려진 플라스틱 밀폐용기에 담아서 보관하고
녹은 물비누는 손잡이가 달린 플라스틱 우유병에 담아두고 제때 사용해서 없앴답니다 =)
통돌이, 미니 드럼세탁기, 식기세척기에 모두 사용하다보니 밀폐용기에 담아두었던 덩어리도 금방 사용해버렸어요.
길게 보관하는것이 아니라면 만드신 후 3개월 이내에 모두 사용하는것이 좋을 것 같아요^^

can you use NaOH instead of KOH
The video is about making a liquid-type soap.
It is recommended that KOH be used to complete it into a liquid type.
If you make soap using NaOH, you will complete a solid-type soap. If you have to use NaOH to complete a liquid-type soap, you must increase the amount of water.
However, I don't recommend this method because it is difficult to safely complete soap.

yes it does! the crock pot stay on the entire process.
As far as I remember,
the temperature of the Crock pot started "high" when I put oil.
After that, I set the temperature to "Low" when putting in the Lye water.
when the stirring of the soap is completed,
setting the temperature is lowered to the "warm" stage until the process is over.

Does it need for curing period before use?
I don't think curing is necessary. Because it’s cooked already. But I wanted to give the soap a bit of a ripening period. So I used this soap a week after I finished it.

Hi how about the spices in the used oil, will it burn after making soap
I do not add spices to the oil when I make my soap. Also, the oil used for frying spicy food is not used to make soap.
