  • "Auferstanden aus Ruinen" (German for "Risen from Ruins") is a German patriotic song that was the national anthem of the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) during its existence from 1949 to 1990.

      Because it's German tradition to use one couplet of Das Lied der Deutschen. I agree with you, Auferstanden Aus Ruinen is more an anthem that fits the new Germany. A Germany that does not want to be the leader in a world destroying war.

    It would be the better anthem. For real. This expresses the new life Germany is living; risen from ruins. Although the sun may not shine as bright as it used to, over our beloved lands, it will do so one glorious day. I live and'd die for the homeland o' mine!

      The Sun shines even brighter, not just over the Heimat, but over the entirety of Europe. We have peace now, and we should be grateful.

      this anthem was made by the Germans and for Germany, resurrected from the ruins of the Second World War, original and unpublished
      the other western anthem that is still used today, besides being very ugly, was copied and stolen from another nation !!
