Two excellent teams of the time and Ipswich deserved a title during that period but Villa sneaked it that year while the Reds had to settle for 5th place and Ol' Big Ears beating Real Madrid in Paris. Incidentally,I thought the late Avi Cohen had a good game there at left back but ironically it was 'Barney Rubble' Alan Kennedy who scored the winner in Paris just 6/7 months later while playing at left back. Also the pitch was not in good nick after a lot of rain so both teams were unable to be at their passing best.
Cracking game this, Paul Cooper was a professional penalty saver, he saved one at Anfield a year earlier and again 2 years earlier he saved 2 pens at Anfield, mcdermott just about squeezes the pen past him in this game though. Unbelievable he always said if a player had his head down before taking the pen he was hitting it low but if he kept his head high he was going high. Simple realy
This was the season where Sammy Lee took over jimmy Case's first team role - nothing against Lee but I have to say I thought Case was the better player - he scored a lot more goals for a start and was still playing in the top league over 10 years later - Gaeme Souness has hinted that Paisley didn't sell him for football reasons
Managed to track this down, many thanks Dave - we were actually listening to this match live (and I have the cassette tape I made here and syncd this to the video here)_ and trying to get a stable TV picture from 9000 miles away at a British research base in Antarctica - my uncle had shipped an old 405 line TV and at the peak of the sunspot cycle the frequency used in London for video and tv signal was just high enough to be reflected off the ionosphere and make it all the way down to the Cold Continent - Im strill wondering if that penalty was awarded correctly over 44 years later.....
@@DaveWallerLFC Hi Dave - Ive figured out my audio cassette recording from Antarctica was from Match of the day just after 5pm UK on Sunday 12th Oct 1980- cheers
Sammy Lee was the only Liverpool player not to play for his country--however he went on to get 14 caps for England, so every single Liverpool player you see here played for their country. What a team.
Two great teams from 80s. Particularly Everton is more sympa to me, but I remember well both teams. I remember well players like Dalglish or Mariner.
Hi David. I do have those videos, but no plans to upload them at this stage. Maybe one day, although my memory is that the 98/99 one in particular was terrible. It's possible to buy copies of old football videos on DVD, so please let me know if you're interested in doing this and I can give you links.
The 2 sites I've used most often are: footballontap.webs.com/ footydvd.co.uk/ They've both got a list of season review videos including the 2 you mentioned.
Thanks David. My copy is from The Big Match Revisited, and is about the same length. Is yours from here too, or the original broadcast? Do you have any other videos?
@@DaveWallerLFC Yes, it's from the Big Match. It must be the same one. I have QPR v Liverpool 1984-84 (50 minutes) and a documentary - The Boot Room Boys - if you're interested.
Thanks. I've got that QPR game. Is the Boot Room Boys the BT Sport documentary? If so, I think I've seen it but don't have a copy. I guess they wouldn't allow that to be uploaded to youtube as it's fairly new.

Cohen did have a good game.

Agreed 👍
Jimmy Case was a quality player who should of won an England cap

Wow, that's an amazing story!

John Wark, two spells at Ipswich Town, two spells at Liverpool and a good Scottish international.
Great player was John Wark. World class for me !
Two spells at Liverpool?
In any case, 12 goals from midfield before mid-October is some feat! 6:18

Come on you mighty Reds - one of my faves. Almost sounds poignant here.
Hi Dave. Do you happen to have the 97/98 and 98/99 season reviews. They were my first seasons watching football. Thanks

Kenny should have had 2 penalties in my opinion, the one that was given and the one a few mins before it.
💎⚽️
Dave. Do you have the return game at Portman Road played just a few days after John Lennon's murder?
Yes. I'm uploading games in order from 1980/81 season, so unless there are any problems that game should be up in a few weeks.
@@DaveWallerLFC Ok, great. I was just going to say that I have a video of about 25 minutes of that game if you'd like to use it.

Russell Osman actually proved poor for England Motty...
Bloody dirty yokels, Ipswich. I mean throwing mud at the ball! What's that about?
The rustic swines lol
