  • Warrington Bank Quay and Acton Bridge are 1 stop apart, however there are oddly no direct train services between the two. So what do you have to do to get there by train? And how long does it take?

    Hey Nick, just a lil advice to treat trainline with a bit of caution. They regularly sell people tickets for trains which don’t exist or are somehow invalid. Perfect example is on strike days they’ll sell you a ticket for a train which isn’t running, then charge you £10 to cancel the ticket. Worth booking direct through the TOCs if you can

    • @NickBadley
      @NickBadley  Před rokem +20

      Yeah I am aware that they aren't exactly the greatest.. I mainly just use them to either check journey times or book small quick spontaneous journeys. Everything else I book with TOCs.

    There is 2 more crazy ways to get to Acton Bridge from Warrington Bank Quay and Central but involves getting to a Station called Greenbank on the Mid-Cheshire Line. Can do Warrington Bank Quay to Chester, Chester to Greenbank, 15 to 20 minute walk to Hartford and then catch the train to Acton Bridge and then ether from Warrington Central/Bank Quay to Manchester Piccadilly and then Manchester Piccadilly to Greenbank and walk it to Hartford to catch the train that way but guessing these methods will be longer than the ones mentioned in the video. Great video Nick.

  • @kieranstravels
    @kieranstravels Před rokem +15

    There's actually a THIRD method that can be done, should you be willing to catch a bus. You can get Northern or TFW to Frodsham, and then the 48 bus service that runs a few times a day to right outside the station. It takes, give or take, about an hour if you can time it right. It's a interesting experiance to say the least. Great little video as always nick!

    • @LeoMartinDJ
      @LeoMartinDJ Před rokem +3

      Or why don’t you get the TFW to Frodsham, wait ludicrously long for the connection to Runcorn (as they are once every 2 hours currently) and then change at Runcorn for LNWR to Acton Bridge!

    • @kieranstravels
      @kieranstravels Před rokem +3

      @@LeoMartinDJ That's actually true, that's a fourth way to do it! I'd say that the train then bus method is actually one of the quickest however if timed right, where as that type of method would probably be something reserved for a pointless journey type video 🤣

    I had a weird one the other night. Some late services, to go from Worcester Forgate Street to Worcester Shrub Hill, you have to go via Droitwitch and change trains there!
    By train it’s a sub 5min journey between the two stations when direct, it was about 25 doing it this way!
    I think I could’ve walked it in 20min but didn’t wanna risk it as had a connecting train, so the big diversion it was.
    I wasn’t the only person doing it either, was at least 3 of us, so it’s not unusual to happen.
    The third Worcester station, ie Worcestershire Parkway, has zero direct connections with the other two…

    I do wonder if it'd be useful to have a "local" service Crewe > Warrington > Wigan [maybe even via Newton-le-Willows]. The biggest frustration I find is having to reserve a bike space for the journey from Crewe to Warrington - if there's none available, you either have to wait for a train which has one or go via Warrington Central and Liverpool South Parkway. Whether LNR or Northern would run it is up to them - remember many years ago when there was the once a day, one way only Central Trains Class 350 from Birmingham to Preston? 😁
