- WWE 2K14 is one of my most played video games of all time. As someone who grew up playing wrestling games my whole life, when this game came out I never thought I would end up spending so much time on this game. However I am happy I did. This is one of the best wrestling games of all time, and one of the most complete games of all time.
However what makes this game so good? Why should you play this game in 2018 when it looks so outdated? Well lets find out

Same here lol I remember one time I was the ref and I was Stone Cold. My friend was Kofi and his opponent was Eddie, and I would fast count when my friend was winning but then I turned heel and him, gave him the stunner and let his opponent pin him. He was pissed lol

It was honestly because of this game that i know so much about WWE today. Even if I don't watch it nowadays, its fascinating how fast I learned about almost everything about the wrestling industry just based of this game. Definitely top 5 best WWE games of all time.

The fact they had attires instead of duplicates made this so great. I use to download CAWS then use there theme from online when I had this on ps3

Roster, the arena selection, the video packages. Just imagine WWE 2k20 with the same gameplay and visuals of 2k19 AND everything that 2k14 has.

The roster was so sick, as were the video packages. I think the wrestlemania theme helped a lot.
WWE 2K14 is by far my favorite wrestling game. Here's why. 1) it's THQ's final game. 2) the large roster (sans the women) 3) Brodus Clay in his PRIME and 4) it was made with the PS3 and Xbox 360 in mind as a priority and not an afterthought.

I suspect story designer got the axe coz Vince saw we could book better shows than he could.
Some of those CAW slots I reserved for guys like the Hardyz, the Dudleyz, Benoit, Angle, Piper, etc. I especially loved that Custom Soundtracks were a thing.

I just recently played 09 again after a decade lol, it’s actually better than I remember, you should play it again if you still have it. And they never bothered improved that at all. up until 2k16, when they found a logical solution, they added that RKO animation as an counter. since Randy also hit Rollins a rko by countering the Curb storm. and I believe they are still using that rko animation as an counter. they never improved any further than that animation Lol. god! they are so lazy
My favorite wrestling game of all time! I also felt like a kid (and I was around 34-36 playing this) and has so much FUN doing Universe Mode for years. I didn't upgrade until 2k17 and the ps4.

The one thing I appreciated the most was how accurate the overalls felt for most wrestlers
e.g: 95s and 94s were only for wrestlers who defined the era like Hogan, Austin and Bret Hart
93s and 92s were wrestlers the main rivals of the 95s and 94s like Randy Savage, HHH and Shawn Michaels
91s and 90s were wrestlers who were the top champion at one point but are generally in upper mid card like Kane, Big show and Rey Mysterio
Everyone between 90 to 85 were mid carders
everyone below 85 were jobbers

It’s a shame this game wasn’t released on PC. If it was there would be so many great mods and a thriving community supporting it. I would play it non stop with an Xbox 360/Xbox one controller. I own it on my Xbox 360, but there isn’t any online support now.

You summed my problems up with 2K15 upto 2K19. They're focused way to much on simulation and they're way too slow for me. WWE2K14 was amazing and I always go back to it when I need my wrestling game fix.

@GASHINA just because it has good graphics does not mean it’s going to be a good game. If the gameplay is bad then it’s a bad game, if it’s good, then it’s a good game. Gameplay should the biggest focus of a game.

2k14 is WAY better than 2k19. I think the reason why we prefer the old games is because they’re were simple to play while 2k15 and up are complex, which is why many of us would never get used to them. Not to mention, all we care about nowadays are the legends as the current stars have terrible characters that are not larger than life. I could go on and on in why the old games and old product are miles better than today’s pg bullshit, but you get my point.
I picked this game up from Goodwill for $7.50 because of this review/retrospective. I haven't played a wrestling game since HCTP, and man am I glad I did. Thanks very much for the reviews, and keep them coming.

I had some of the best time of my life playing this game. My roommate and I would play days on end with our own CAW. Both as a tag team and as singles. Bought the DLC with everything, so the roster was stacked. GREATEST WRESTLING GAME OF ALL TIME!!!!

People compare this to SVR2007, when they’re forgetting the absolute perfection of SVR2011. A great roster, gameplay and some of the most fun/meta RTWs made SVR2011 a true classic.

The gameplay, roster, 30 Years of WrestleMania, this game has everything, this is a true WWE 2K game that I enjoyed playing and I still play it to this day on my PS3, I am working on a CAW Wrestling Interpromotional or Multi-League Mega Event called Leagues Collision on WWE 2K14 and I am so happy that I decided to pick WWE 2K14 instead of WWE 13 to make Leagues Collision, it fits so perfectly in WWE 2K14. Keep up the good work. WWE 2K14 Forever!

Summerslam had some good arenas too. Such a shame 2K19 has such a small selection for arenas, really makes you get bored fast when there are only 2 good arenas.

This game was my favorite!! I am a wrestling fan more than a gamer (the only video games I buy a wrestling games and I'm typically one generation behind on consoles). I loooved the aesthetics of having a manager ringside through matches. Giving an opponent a manager for that false finish added so much fun!! And its DLC Season Pass was unbeatable! With the addition of Syxx, all five members of the Kliq were present... OMG, really? Thank you!!
You mentioned the difficulty. It was true. Having a game where I could win with anyone got a bit stale when wrestling against the cpu. However, the universe that my friends and I created was what kept us going, year after year.
Having our own roster of around 50 staple superstars, all created by us, allowed the wwe games to long outlast any other game that we owned. My friends and I ALL had copies of these games. The depth in creation was staggering, on top of all the wrestlers that loved growing up being in there. Even watching the matches of our creations unfold led us to our universe, even when my love for the actual product grew cold.
These games were outstanding.

@@WingedEdits no he means the table matches not the time limit, if you have or haven't play a table match and don't even put your opponent body on red keep it green and slam them on a table and I guarantee you you would win less than a 3 minutes

I always pick up my games late, but this gives me the benefit of choosing the right ones. I've played only one or two wrestling games per console generation, but it seems they were the best. I started with smackdown 1 and 2(ps1), then played shctp on ps2, then wwe allstars and 2k14 on ps3, and only 2k19 on ps4. Looking back on it now, I feel blessed that I always played the best ones.
I agree completely, it was a great game, one that at the time especially if I knew what was to come, I kinda took for granted to be honest. So many customisation options, a great 30 years of wrestlemania mode complete with all the wrestlemania arenas that you could also play outside of it, a challenging streak mode, one of the best rosters ever, the re-added match types like special guest referee and I quit and I remember having a blast with my friends online, whether it was the glitches that had us rolling around in stitches :P, the intense back and fourth matches, using community creations and downloading all these wacky characters from other video games or real life personalities and sticking them in the ring against people or creating matches using the match creator where I would mess around with the rules so my friends (and sometimes random people :P) never knew what was going on, I'd play as the referee and watch as the madness and comedy unfolded. I have fond memories of making a standard tag team iron man match where you could win via pinfall, submission, 10 count, DQ or ring out count and would repeatedly DQ opponents over and over again, count really fast or slow, count people out over and over If they were outside the ring, it was hilarious. I took full advantage of the match creator in online games and made some of the wackiest matches you could imagine where even I didn't know what was going on at times lmao, fun times.
WWE fans would agree that WWE2K14 and Smackdown Here Comes The Pain were the greatest wwe games to ever be released. WWF No Mercy and Wrestlemania 2000 as well in my opinion

My favorite part of this game was the online mode, there was always lobbies open to play on and I loved just going in there and talking shit in elimination chamber matches, honestly this game was essentially my introduction to online gaming and it was so fun I made so many friends from this game, so many memories 👌🏻

I was in the middle of creating a branching Create-A-Story before my 360's disc reader got fucked up. And yes, BRANCHING! I spent hours upon hours upon HOURS tweaking every choice to make sure there was no problems with the story and to keep it fun.
And online was HILARIOUS! Glitches combined with CAW's and multi-man TLC matches were the absolute best.
WWE 2k14 is the Best There Is, the Best There Was, the Best There Ever Will Be.

I was having an existential crisis over whether or not I liked wrestling anymore because of the recent 2K games. Then I put in SvR and I fell in love again. I also had stopped watching wrestling around 09; 2k14 brought me BACK into watching wrestling again. These games are just so amazing, it makes me scratch my head over what 2K is doing to this franchise
Great because of roster and retro arenas. The actual in-ring gameplay hasn't aged well though. WWE 2K19 in-ring gameplay is a lot better.

2k14 and SvR 11are my favorite and 30 years of wrestlemania is what made u want to stay up at night and grind to unlock wreslters...its worth it
This was a great game! It was dope having all of the WM stages. Plus, a lot of stuff to do.
Started with HCTP, SvR 2009 & 2010 are close to my heart. WWE '12, '13 & 2K14 were my last 3 games in this series. I'm glad I stopped at this point since 2K15 and onwards look like it devolved entirely.
2K need to stop making wwe games

Publisher (THQ, 2K) - Ideas, mechanics, roster, etc.
Developer (Yukes) - they make animations, programming, graphics, etc.
Kids need to stop talking about businesses and people's jobs.

I just got a Retro Game emulator and saw xbox 360 and PS3 were on there so this was the 1st game i got so good to relive all these classic moments and a PC

@@jonathanluna4022 Doing it with the whole roster was an absolute killer 💀 I ended up just trying to do it with the wrestlers who challenged him and lost. Got through a good chunk with them.
I remember I always cheated in defeat the streak mode to where I just go the undertaker's move set and change all his special moves to a top rope move.

2k14 includes an wrestlemania 30 arena way before that wrestlemania really happen. Just Awesome
I Remember Defeat The Streak. It Was Close To Impossible At First But I Got Better And Defeat The Streak Was Getting Easier And Easier. As A Matter Of Fact, I Beat Undertaker With Everybody In The Game

The fact that it had 30 years of WrestleMania and a roster with all of the correct choices for superstars was why this game was so perfect
