  • Competing with increasingly popular cable networks, shifting to an entirely new network, and constant changes in its lineup, the mid to late 2000s featured a new set of challenges for the brand.
    Huh, you made it down here to the description. I hope this means you found the video full of awesomeness, and are planning on subscribing. Either way, thanks for watching!

    You know in a hypothetical Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, and Pinky and the Brain sequel series where the Warners are sent to Acme Looniversity with Pinky and the Brain becoming class pets, what kind of episode ideas would you imagine?
    I could see one where Pinky and the Brain are trying to deal with their new surroundings, Buster and Babs showing the siblings around Acme Looniversity, and Plucky trying to prank the Warners.

    24:58-25:09 Not only that, but by that point in the block’s run, ABC Kids was running on auto-pilot. It kept on airing the same 10-12 episodes of Emperor’s New School, The Replacements, Hannah Montana, and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody; and the same 22 episodes of That’s So Raven (with two half-hour broadcasts of that show airing back-to-back in an hour-long timeslot) from then until ABC Kids ended in 2011, with the only series continuing to get episode updates on the block being Power Rangers, which continued to air new episodes on ABC Kids until 2009 (the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers aired on the block during the 2009-10 television season, and then Disney sold the broadcast rights to the franchise to Nickelodeon not too long after, leaving ABC Kids as basically a living corpse during its final year on the air).
    I know that Cinepile Studios already did a really good video on the history of the block, but it still would be awesome if you covered Disney’s 1 Saturday Morning/ABC Kids in a future “Attack the Block” installment.

    • @andrejg4136
      @andrejg4136 Před 3 lety +1

      It was one of my wake-up calls to the passage of time, I had turned 21 in 2006, and to watch the wholesale collapse of broadcast Saturday Morning cartoons from the turn of the millennium until my college years was basically a bell tolling in the background of my head. Cable and later cable-supported high speed internet had effectively shattered 'the blocks' to the point where anyone not blinded by nostalgia could see they were financially un-viable.
      It was like watching great nations shatter, but eventually being reborn into greater (in terms of breadth) confederations. Animation has never been more diverse, had more depth, had more breadth, had more range, had more willingness to revisit the old and grasp blindly for the new.
      And yet, there is just this awful feeling of loss, that concentrated hit of "there is this specific 4 hour block just for YOU" is dead and gone, and for the sake of television, there is simply no need for it to come back. If they care about the content, they will find a way to get it out; if they care about the ads, ads at 5 PM on a Wendsday sell just as well on cable as 10 AM on a Saturday OTA, in theory at least...

      Actually, it IS because of where you lived. Although Kids’ WB was supposed to be a Saturday morning block, some CW affiliates aired the block on tape delay in favor of showing locally produced and/or E/I-compliant programming, causing it to air on Sundays on those stations instead, and the same thing happened with The CW4Kids.
