Mike, man, I can't imagine how hard it was to share that as a parent. Being a parent is the most rewarding and scariest thing we do, you only ever want the best. My heart ached watching that but we are so fortunate as viewers to have you be so raw on camera and show that hunting is bigger than just killing a stud 6.5 yr old. You guys will absolutely be in our thoughts and prayers the next coming week.

It's amazing how a man with ice in his veins when killing a monster buck, falls apart talking about his son. That truly shows that Mike is a father first a hunter second. I am glad you guys did not edit this out. We as fathers, need to be reminded that hunting is not life. Can't believe I just said that. But I will admit I am guilty of sneaking out for a hunt instead of spending time with my boys. I needed to see this. Thank you Mike. Prayers sent your way!

Mike, we’ve never spoken, met or interacted online, but I have the utmost respect for you. I have followed you and your hunts for years, but also have loved the way you engage your kids in the outdoors. Mike, there is no greater sense of uselessness than a parent watching their children in pain. Our 34 year old daughter was diagnosed with melanoma cancer in april, With 8 immunotherapies done and 9 left to go, it kills us to see her get so sick after treatments, affecting everyone around her including her husband and two young children. What brings us comfort is offering our support, and knowing Christ is in control!! Congrats on the great buck, good luck with your boy, prayers to you and your family
Sir my heart and prayers are out to you, my youngest daughter was diagnosed with bone tumors at 18 months she is now 7. I understand completely the emotions tied with all of it. God is good remember he is there to lean on in times of hardship. On a lighter note amazing buck!
Dang Mike. I've been following you and Jared on here for years. Always enjoyed everything you guys put out. Wasn't expecting that at the end. As a father, I can't imagine what you're going through. I usually just pray for my babies cause they are obviously what's on my mind. Tonight and every night until I know he's doing great I'll be praying for your baby. Another great saga deer down. Wow he looked like he weighed 300 lbs coming through the woods. Congratulations Mike. Ten years ago my youngest grandson came down with juvenile myositis. He’s been in a wheelchair since. Some ruff times he went through. At seventen he has accepted he will never walk. He has become a great pistol and rifle shot. I hope to be able to take him hunting next year. I also started teaching him to play a guitar. He’s learned more in a month than I did in years. Our family prayers are with you and your family. Thoughts and prayers going up for your son and the doctors and nurses doing his surgery. And to the rest of your family as well. I know all about that tree therapy you mentioned Mike. I have a 4 year old son who’s name is Easton that had spent the first 3 years of his life in and out of hospitals. He is special needs. Born with a genetic disorder called Cri du chat. Pronounced kree do Shaw. He has been lifelined more times than one should ever have to be. Ended up having to get a trach about a little over a year ago. He finally got him into Cincinnati children’s hospital and they have been miracle workers for Easton. He is currently doing a cap trial right now for the next 6 months. If it goes well he gets the trach removed. Spent a lot of hours sitting in a tree stand thinking and praying sometimes crying. But I needed it so bad. Fuel for my soul. Awesome video and buck. Mike, thanks for sharing. I have never commented before, however I do follow you and Jared. We share the same passion, and I respect the sacrifice and work you guys put into your goals. Not many people recognize the sacrifice and effort that is required to own and manage quality hunting ground. My wife and I have been in Iowa 11 years now, purchasing 2 farms. As with your wife, she is very supporting of my passion. They are a blessing for sure. Our children are now grown, however we know the rollercoaster of encountering significant health concerns with our kids. Our son was born with spina bifida with myelomeningocele, he was to never live a week according to Dr's. 15 surgeries and almost 30 years later he is still alive, well and an independent adult. It's important to share these things because we need each others support. Jesus commanded us to lover one another as he loved us as the greatest commandment. He also commanded we bear one anothers burdens. We do that by sharing our burdens, supporting each other both emotionally and spiritually. Your family is certainly in our prayers. Congratulations on a great season and cant wait to see the family videos when the wife and kids are out, always enjoy those.

My wife and I went through a medical issue with our older daughter where she needed to have half her lung removed at 5wks old. Now you would never know it happened. Again thoughts and prayers. Driving down the highway this morning Dec 8th watching and listening to your story of your son and instantly went to prayer.

Every now and then there are just some things that stop you in your tracks, and although we often fail to understand the why in those things, there is always a great deal of comfort in knowing that there are always constants in our lives. Family, the outdoors, and true compassion are among the most cherished of those constants, and occasionally when you combine all three of them you get an episode like this. Mike, I don't know you from Adam, but I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers as you work through this challenging time. May the well wishes of so many here, most of whom you will never meet, that you have impacted through the simple telling of deer stories, bring you comfort and strength as you move forward in the coming days.

Man Mike…prayers for your little boy, your family and the medical team. As a dad of a 2 1/2 year old little boy that has an appointment Wednesday for some issues I know your helpless feeling. You nailed the “Treestand therapy” on the head. I lost my dad in September and have logged a lot of hours in the tree this year mostly with tears in my eyes. I have let deer walk that I would shoot any other year just so I can keep going back. It will all be ok buddy. Be strong for that boy!

It's been a rough few years for me health wise, and some crazy family issues lately this year. I've not had much success hunting so my time in the woods has been "tree therapy". The time spent hunting with my son is priceless and I love teaching him. My heart goes out to you brother, we will be praying for your son and family!
Nothing means more than our children when you're dad. I emphasize with this fully. My 2 year old daughter went through a surgery in sept. More minor than yours but when its your kid. Also wanted to let you know that my daughter’s best friend had the same condition as a child, and with surgery, she is now 21 and living a perfectly normal life. She had the operation at Lurie’s Children’s hospital in Chicago, with great success, so have faith and hope that everything will go well.

Shows people that as hunters we do have heart for other issues other than smoking a 6-1/2 year old giant. Sitting in my stands is my therapy.
