Thanks Johntrik....cross picking is a new adventure for me over the past couple of years. Loving the New "old" Epiphones! Hope all is well your way in Greece. I had an uncle (passed away now) from Milos. I have always wanted to visit! Thanks for commenting and take care.
Steve thank you for responding, and well wishes. I’d been a customer for decades, own wads and play several instruments, yet they chose their future sales path. And, as a stage musician, if live shows and things ever get back to normal, I’m not beyond being petty and out a large guitar center wording in circle with like through it. That is who owns music fiend, guitar center. I wouldn’t have had a hard time had they not deliberately kept hanging up on me from their call enter in India. You knows, it’s amazing how a company can try to keep from giving you a refund by directing ALL requests for return authorization to the one same lady in India or Pakistan who cannot speak or enunciate or operate a phone. Guitar center tool chapter 11 last year, stiffing people they owed $800M. They just came out from under bankruptcy beginning 2021. I guess that explains shipping lesser store stock to honest buyers and being as difficult as possible about returns, to discourage. Thankfully I had PayPal on my side to not do a damn thing to help. I hope the Epiphone reissues are as good a quality as Blueridge and Eastman.
Also wanted to say, sorry for typos, and that is the Ernest Tubb Guitar in 60s. They made him one with name pearl inlayed down fingerboard. The Frontier is the model I think Loretta Lynn used to play. Despite having a d-18, and a RK in mahogany, it’s my least favorite back and sides choice.
The guitar is called an Epiphone Excellente. Loretta Lynn and Ernest Tubb both played that guitar. They both had their names written across the fingerboard as well! Epiphone only made 139 of them from 1963 to 70 until awhile back when Epiphone started making them again. They are an iconic guitar and I WILL have one before I die!
Steve, good picking, pretty reissue. Recently having been tricked by musicians fiend and now fighting to get refund. I’d ordered a reissue Frontier and they sent cheap one in my Frontier box. Hung up on me 3 times trying to get return authorization, I guess they didn’t want to reverse their bait and switch attempt. So, Frontier is maple back and sides and this more expensive model is ovangol or something. If you have played both mahogany and rosewood back and sides also, can you comment the tone similarities or ? I’ve never heard of the wood, and I’d like to know whether it’s more rosewood sounding or mahogany sounding. Or is it brighter like maple. It’s nearly impossible to locate one of these reissues to try prior to purchase. So, I want to have my mind made up when or if I get my money back from Musicians Fiend. Boy have they went downhill since their owner, Don’t Care If you Buy or Not Center, took bankruptcies and left vendors stuck with 800M losses. I guess that explains the business model. Want to have my mind made up and ready for Sweetwater or Amazon. companies that have never baited and switched me and haven’t hung up on me 3 times in the midst of requesting return authorization. Thankfully “PayMe, I won’t lift a finger to help Pal” is making zero assistance to resolve. So, I’m done with GC, MF, and PayPal all in one fell swoop. Bit, I’m going to buy one of these from SWEETWATER, or anyone NOT affiliated with GC. And I won’t be paying through “pay me not to do shit for you Pal”.
Online purchases are tricky....I always order from a local shop if I can. So....tonewoods. Ovangkol wood will give you lush sounds like rosewood (for me notes played on a rosewood guitar allows them to ring into each other if that makes sense....Mahogany seems to have a little more individual note clarity). The bottom end is tight (relatively speaking). Ovangkol has been used for years in Takamine guitars. It is also used a fair bit by boutique builders as a cheaper option I guess to rosewood. So you can expect a rosewood type of tone to it. I haven't tried the Frontier but the local shop here (where I buy all my guitars from) have agreed to order one in for their showroom, which will allow me to try it! I am looking forward to the Frontier....I love the Epi Reissues as they are the original line and not the "inspired by Gibson". Hope this helps, and hope you get things sorted out with Musicians Friend.
Right now using D'addario XS. I think D'addario EJ-17's are whats on the guitar during the time of that video. But, I find the guitar takes a variety of strings well. I think whatever you put on it will sound good.
@@stathkon I like the guitar....they haven't made a US model yet like they have with the Texan and the Frontier. I wouldn't be surprised it they make a US model. But I have to say the Indonesian quality is really good. This guitar has a tone I like! The neck is a little chunky but that's not a bad thing either.
@@stevebernard221 i just saw it. Great playing. I have gibson j 200 but when i first time saw epiphone excellente, i loved it. Last guestion. Do uou think its expensive for 900 euros? I mean you can buy some martins or Taylor's American made, at the same price...
Great crosspicking stuff and amazing Epi guitar !!!

Doing research on that guitar . What strings do you use ? Sounds good

Hey Steve would you say that Excellente has a fat, medium, or thing C shaped neck? Thanks
I'm gonna say fat medium...it won't take long before it feels comfortable though.
@@stevebernard221 Ok, thx. Mine arrives tomorrow!
I love it But they say that the sound awful when plugged
Most peizo pickups do sound awful. LOL. Although I have to say this one isn't too bad, but my preference is a K&K pickup.
@@stevebernard221 :) so do you recommend it? Does it feel like... made in Indonesia?

@@stathkon check out Grey Foggy Day video....the audio is a bit better and I'm using Martin treated strings on it there.

A very good try. A bit more practice and your there.
