basically its all about SPEED (how fast your army can move) FIREPOWER (how much damage your army can cause to others) and PROTECTION (how much damage your army can sustain if hit), the choice is pretty much chosing which army has the best of these 3 attributes right?

say you spend thousands of dollars over the yrs building and painting your army and you wanna quite, can you ever try and SELL your army and pieces? is there a website for this? do people every make money from selling their collections or is it basically dead money from a financial sense every time?

no ones ever asked you this question but who if i like every army and i just wanna collect and paint the BIGGER characters from whatever army they might be from and not play with them in competition but just out them in my glass cabinet and admire them, does anyone actually do that? just buy big characters from whichever army that just look cool and thats it?

I have a suggestion for new players. Don't get 2k points to start but get 500 - 1k and play games with those first. You should be able to get games in still, learn the game on simpler terms and get a better feel for what units and playstyles that fit you within the faction to some degree.

I think the best faction to start is death guard because their durability is built in, their contagion ability is strong and easy to use, their models are forgiving to paint and they have a solid unit roster. You can play them hordy, elite or something in between. Their psychic powers are strong, their melee is great and because they aren't that hard to play, you can have a good experience in your first tournament. (You usually play atleast three games with your faction in a row so ease of play definitely is a factor here)

Best advice I can give is look into the lore and go with an army you connect with and think is cool. I didn’t do this and wound up unhappy with my first two armies. Also, DO NOT make a decision based on how “powerful” an army is. Power level will change and shift over the course of any edition … play what you find fun.

It's literally this unfortunately. This and how they feel to play. Anything other than that is asking to waste tons of money. Doesn't matter if what u think is coolest is the worst thing in the game. Don't chase that carrot.

I think it's important to consider if it can ally with something else gives you some models you can put into another army. Chaos are great you can add knights and daemons with out breaking your bonuses. Less codex creep and list fatigue as your possible roster of units and play style is much broader than something like Tau, Orks or Necrons

Recently started mustering models with the recruit edition starter set painting them as space wolves. Love the Lore, Aesthetic, Playstyle, and abilities they have. I knew going in painting might be somewhat difficult but I've managed alright so far. Other factions and chapters I'm fond of as well I just couldn't pass up the space vikings that turn into space werewolves. Plus a chapter master like Logan Grimnar is hard to pass up. You've got to be a special kind of badass to go up against the inquisition on multiple occasions and come out relatively unscathed with minimal repercussions. Also TTS has been extremely helpful since I moved, it allows me to not only play test lists and models before I buy but I've been able to play with friends in different states as well

chose my armies with what i like and find interesting, be that the figures or the lore.
atm i will soon be at 8 armies, 2 for AoS and 6 for 40k, the newest will be Iron warriors that i plan to use Vashtorr in when he comes out :)
so the armies are Tyranids (my first 40k army), Necrons, Iron Hands, Imperial Knights, DG and soon Iron Warriors.
for AoS it is Seraphons (from all the way back when they where called Lizardmen) and now also Gloomspite Gits (Squigs) :D
for me i look up both models and lore about them to see if they interest me, then look at rules to see what models i want. :)
ofc cool looking models is also nice, just to get and paint :D

This is a comprehensive, very eloquent presentation, Trevy. If you were to ask me, I'd say picking an army is primarily about the lore. The backstory is such a massive presence in Warhammer, you gotta relate to a faction if you're gonna make them a part of your life. And since you're gonna spend perhaps 80% of the time painting and 20% of the time playing, you also need to pick an army that you think you can pull off artistically. I'm much better at painting Chaos than loyalist armies, so all my stuff is very sinister looking. I think my good guys are more "meh" .

  • @IBPaintsppp-wt5ou
    @IBPaintsppp-wt5ou Před 10 měsíci

My advice is to choose the army off aesthetics and lore first. Then consider the work involved (number of mini's, difficulty to paint), cost if that's important, and playstyle in the game. I would also do your best to "finish" an army. By finish I mean to clear your entire pile of shame for that army or hit a milestone where you can clear your mind of the need to work on that army.
I've been enjoying my Drukhari army for 3.5 years (finished) and Seraphon from AoS for 1 year. I'm a few months away from finishing the Seraphon army and my next project will be Ossiarch Bonereapers which I've just started building.

If you want too be able too play the game in more than just the charge and fight phase, go with DG. If all you care about is charging and slapping people with axe's and chain swords go WE 😂

another consideration that helped me, as someone who has been in the hobby for a while and couldn't decide and army hoped for a whole edition. All the models didn't really stand out anymore as I'm used to what they look like so, I took influence from other games that I enjoyed like league of legends or magic the gathering. I enjoy twitch and shaco and blue black decks from MTG, so it was apparent that I just enjoyed messing with people. So harlequins was a good fit for me. Just another angle for people to think about.

I started with Nids/GSC back in what. 2nd? Around 89-91 time frame. So back when zoans had legs and bunny warriors.
Picked up chaos (Night Lords and 1k sons) throughout the years.
Went Dark Eldar with the Pirates of Darkwater meets Hellraiser in SPAAACE during the revamp.
When 1k and GSC got their own new books o guess counts as picking up, th ough never dropped them.
Armies I played but dropped over the years.
Sisters of Battle, Orks and Dark Angels.
I just started Necrons. Always liked them but their old model range was uninspiring.
With the difficulty of getting Tomb Kings I've needed to scratch that itch and started to work on adding Necrons to my way too many armies.
And that's only for 40k, not including how many armies I have from Fantasy...
I would have also started Squats but...They're lore, model design and concept are utterly boring to me.
Which is sad as dwarfs are one of my Fantasy armies.
    Anywho.
My suggestion is...pick the models you like the look of. Don't worry about competitive or you'll be stuck chasing your tail and making GW richer with whack a mole balance.
Take models you like and try to make them work. Some of my favorite experiences in game is playing underpowered models and factions and outplayed or figuring out how to win.
Mostly my Beastmen and Tomb Kings...
Also don't feel you need to chase the most up to date codex and rules. Play older editions if you like how an army plays previously.
    So ya.
Short and sweet choose on if you like the models or lore/concept.
Painting? You'll get there. Practice, practice, practice.
Competitive? Get better at playing the game and ignore the math hammer arm chair generals.
Playing a game is vastly different than just running numbers rhat are bias as they generally only take considerations that would support what their argument is.
