HUMP YARD ACTION with drone views! Union Pacific's Settegast and Englewood rail yards, Houston, TX

  • 11/24/2022 Houston, TX. I went to Texas for Thanksgiving to visit family and got some rail yard action while there! The Settegast yard was an old MoPac yard which the UP took over in 1982. The merger actually became official in 1997. It was my last day there so the fog had to do in this video. After the Settegast yard I visited the Englewood yard and got some "hump' action! The UP took over the SP in 1996 and the Englewood yard was connected to the Settegast yard.

    Thank you for this video of Union Pacific action in Houston, Texas on 24 November 2022, Red! The views of both Stettegast Yard and Englewood Yard were entertaining. The hump yard action at Englewood Yard was fascinating to watch. I saw the pin puller several times as the drone caught the cars near the top of the hump. Englewood Yard is probably the southern equivalent of Bailey Yard in North Platte, Nebraska.

    Excellent footage of the hump yard, I've never seen one operate in person or on video.
    I'm pretty darned curious what those EMD SD series locos with a GP15 looking long hood are. I know they aren't a SD40T or any other EMD SD tunnel motor.

    Sorry you got stuck with bad weather on the vacation but the Gulf area is kind of unpredictable. Even singularly these yards were big and I'll double up they're plain mega sized. Those pigeons are problems everywhere but the fog luckily stayed just high enough. Those power sets are everywhere and the SD40 certainly is still popular along with the Slugs though I wonder why so many carry a GE with them. Is it for extra HP when working the hump or are those the DPU you carry around to attach to the rear of the train? The width of the hump bowl is about three times the width of what Milwaukee Road had here in town and note the super abundance of tank cars and covered hoppers for plastic pellets. Those two box cars going over the hump actually look out of place. As a side note my friend Paul Schneider in the early and mid-70s hoboed through both these yards with some frequency and his photos showed MP as mostly SD40 and GP 7\9\18 while the SP was loaded on SD45\U33C\GP35. Where else can you find a hump your Tower squeezed in between freeways and rivers?

    • @redsiowatrainvideos6645
      @redsiowatrainvideos6645  Před rokem

      Yes the weather wasn't ideal, but I took what I could get. Not sure about the GE power, DPU help sounds probable. Sounds like the neighborhood around Englewood yard is trying to sue the UP for cancer cases. The SP apparently left a mess for the UP. I'd like to find a hump yard closer to Iowa and get more footage👍
