Jetpack helps soldiers run faster

  • What if every soldier could run a four-minute mile? That's the goal behind 4MM, or 4 Minute Mile, a student project to create a wearable jetpack that enhances speed and agility. Working with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and a faculty mentor, Jason Kerestes is the mastermind behind 4MM. He built a prototype of the jetpack and is now testing and refining his design to be as effective as possible.
    The 4MM project is part of an ASU program called iProjects, which brings students and industry together to find innovative solutions to real-world problems. See an overview of this year's iProjects here: researchmatters.asu.edu/videos...

    Instead of having the jetoack tilted back to give them more thrust try having it pointed vertical so it will lift up the weight on the test subject much like the spoiler on a supercar. Also because it's behind the test subject it's not picking up as much air so you should move the turbo fans to the shoulders, or have a ventilation hose going from the shoulders to the fan so it can get the most air as possible. I love engineering and I one day wish to invent things and make a difference in the world.

      They tilted it so they DONT lift up as much, how the hell you gonna get grip on the ground if you keep bouncing, leave the technicalities to the people thinking of them.

  • @4321eyeseeyou
    @4321eyeseeyou Před 9 lety

    I think it would be better to have the ducted fans more towards the outside & backwards of the waist area, that way, larger fans could be used for more thrust, no obstruction of air flow as the back impedes the flow. The angle of the fans look to be right, upward/forward thrust, less work for the weight of the pack & soldier's body.

    can you also climb faster and higher with this? what about some lightweight armor with built in cooling, that cools the body to a perfect body-temp, based on per soldier testing (for their "basic" body-temp), acording to their blood pressure and heart rate?

    • @MrMagamarc
      @MrMagamarc Před 7 lety +2

      the body armor could help decrease fall damage if you do a roll, but the thrusters have to be placed at a different position for it. Also the thrusters should be variable in position, so the forward momentum changes according to the wearers actions. like jumping=accelerometer feels it goes up; thrusters move position to "up".
